Mod Announcement: March

— MONTHLY MOD ANNOUNCEMENT: MARCH —

HOLD ONTO YOUR HATS FOLKS! MARCH MADNESS HAS ARRIVED—okay, we don't have that much in terms of overly involved events, but we are finally tackling all these projects that have had to be put back. It's election time everywhere, so get ready! We also have the final announcement about the future of our application system, so be sure to read that as well.

» CALENDAR

The main calendar spreadsheet has been updated here.

But here are the basic dates to keep up with:

  • 3/01: Canon and Original Character Applications open.
  • 3/07: Applications close; Reservations close.
  • 3/11~3/13: EVENT: Arehtei Representatives Challenge
  • 3/16~3/18: EVENT: Political Campaigns
  • 3/18: Test Drive.
  • 3/25: Activity Check starts; Reservations open.
  • 3/25~3/31: ????? (Exact dates TBA; range for general expectation)
  • 3/31: Activity Check ends.
  • 4/01: Applications open.

The wintry season of Notus is coming to an end and the spring season of Zephyras is approaching. By the middle of the month most of the snow will have melted away as the temperatures become warmer. However, there is a bit more rain with occasional storms every now and then. Seems like the island may be passing through some turbulent air space.

» ACTIVITY CHECK RESULTS

Below are the following who were either removed from the Activity Check or dropped out of the game. The list includes all characters who left the game throughout the month. The following names will also be posted in a visible place within the residential area where most of the characters are residing. This list reflects the names that are also on the wall.

Those who made fulfilled the "Free Pass" requirement can be found on this spreadsheet. When you use your pass, we will mark it off.

If there are any mistakes, please let us know ASAP!

» JOBS & TASK BOARD

The Task Board has been updated so characters can start taking on odd jobs if they are so inclined. Details as to how the Task Board works and sign-up can be found here. In addition, there is a Job List sheet that list out more permanent jobs available for characters. These are different from the Task Board jobs as they can be used as part-time or full-time jobs and do not have any specific time period. If you want your character to have a job, that's it. This is also where we will list character run businesses. So if you have one or are thinking about one, there will be a place where it can be referenced and looked at. You can even make tasks relating to your business.

» EMOTION TRACKER UPDATE

The Emotion Tracker has been updated with the sheets all brand spanking new. Anyone who posts after this announcement will be added to the current sheets (so any late tallies from the previous month can still be counted).

While you are free to look at the entire sheet, here's a (lazy) screenshot of what matters:

So. This month's tracker was quite the roller coaster. For those who may recall, at mid-month of February, it had actually dipped into the negatives (gasp). Although the overall total is positive, take a close look at the actual positive/negative breakdowns. Peromei, Sosyne, and Thras actually received more negatives, with Thras taking quite a hit. Looking back on the past months, he's been more or less neutral, but with a slant more toward the negatives. Granted, Thras has his city that will balance it out overall, however he may take note of this.

Poor Peromei, on the other hand, is getting a bit of a mood whiplash here. Make up your minds, dammit! Especially since she's been getting the most hits in terms of emotion points. For Sosyne, she just thinks its par for the course, so hard to say if it's good or bad.

So how will this affect things in the future? Only one way to really find out.

» TREE OF MEMORIES POD UPDATE

So as we mentioned last month, we have a Pod Tracker for the Tree of Memories. We still have some pods just ripe for the pickings, so we may incorporate them this month. However, if we do they will be different compared to previous reveals.

» APPLICATION CYCLES

Last month we proposed shortening our application cycle for various reasons. Among those were to help give more time for in-game events, players to settle down prior to said events, wait reduction, more specific time for arrival, and other benefits. There were some cons, but to us at least, the pros outweighed them. We threw a poll and we thank everyone who responded! Your input is invaluable.

With that said, the final decision is the following:

Starting in April, applications will run during the first four days of the month with a process time taking no longer than five. Introduction logs will go up on the fourth or fifth of every month and all applications will be processed in one batch.

This also means that reservations have to be modified a bit. Instead of the original two week period, ten days max holding, reserves will last for eleven days total, with a max holding of nine. That means the longest a reserve can be held is nine days. If someone puts in a reserve the moment reserves open, they have until the second day of the application cycle to submit their app. After that, it's expired. (We do take app challenges, but reservations take priority.)

So tl;dr list form using March and April as examples:

  • 3/25: Reserves open (reserves made on this date expire on 4/02)
  • 4/01: Applications open
  • 4/04: Applications and Reservations close at 11:59PM CST; Intro Logs posted
  • 4/04~4/05: Application notices are sent out within this time period.

This also means that ICly, all new arrivals are coming in on one day. Characters can actually begin to notice this pattern and thus predict when exactly people are arriving. Previously it was kind of a "time fudge" non-specified time period, but now there will be a definite date.

We'll see how this goes for the next couple of months. If the system needs to be modified, including reverting back to the original system, then we shall make the necessary changes.

Again, this will not start until April. March application cycle will end on the seventh of this month.

» AREHTEI REPRESENTATIVES CHALLENGE

All right, we've talked a lot about this OOCly and ICly all available Arehtei have been broached on the topic. Now it's time to actually get this done. An IC announcement will be made to inform the characters, but we're going ahead and throwing up sign-ups now.

Purpose
Basically, the Arehtei reps are to serve as a liaisons for the Arehtei and kind of be like "first responders." While everyone will still be welcome to speak to the Arehtei personally, the reps can also serve to funnel questions to the Arehtei. Other than that, the reps do not have to perform any specific tasks (unless the Arehtei so chooses—who knows, they may liken the reps to the priests of old!).

Challenges
How this will work is the Arehtei are going to issue a challenge to those who are interested in being their representative. We say "challenge" but these will be more like games of sorts that deal with the aligned emotions. They can vary from quizzes to task-like challenges. None of these challenges will be overbearing or traumatizing, but they will try to test candidate to see how well they not only understand the emotions, but how well they can get along with the Arehtei. We will also try to cater the challenges to the character specifically.

Candidates
There will be a maximum of two reps per Arehtei. Candidates must have been in the game for at least two months. Candidates have to sign up on their own to participate. For those whose character would be more hesitant to do so, a friend could sign them up, but we need you to sign up OOCly on your own. Characters can also try to do this for nefarious or troll reasons. Finally, although this is obvious, only those actually aligned to the Arehtei can be a representative of that Arehtei. Sign-ups are here. IMPORTANT: If you have multiple characters, only choose one.

Actual Selection
In the given form, there are fields that will ask why the character 1) is signing up; 2) would actually be a good rep; 3) success/fail preferences. This will help us give us some IC reasoning as to whether the character will succeed. To make this clear, we as mods will not be deciding. We will be judging based on the Arehtei's actual characterization, and the Arehtei will have a deeper insight into the character's true motivations. Thus they will definitely notice if someone is coming in with ill-intentions, but will put them through the ropes all the same. Who knows, maybe they'll deliberately choose one to teach them a lesson or keep an eye on them. The factors will vary widely on each Arehtei. However, we are also going to employ RNG if everyone in the final selection is on equal footing and we have more than two to choose from. Those participating will know beforehand whether their character makes or breaks it so they can play it out accordingly. However, we'll tell it in private so there's at least still some suspense!

Arehtei
For those wondering about Piphron and Aiada, who are currently still not present on the island, we are still tossing a few ideas of how to incorporate them. For now, the other four (maybe five if Sosyne feels up to it) well issue similar challenges to those aligned to the two missing and select "temporary" reps. Again, while any of the aligned can do this, the main task for these temp reps will be to try and directly contact Piphron and Aiada. They will be in charge in figuring out not only where they are, but their state. Once the Arehtei appear, the reps could either stay or change.

"Limited" Event
Due to the nature of the set-up, this "event" will be limited to those who participate in the challenges. We can have a "spectating" area so others could watch, however we do not plan for this to be a largescale event.

Schedule
ICly, all of this will take place in one day, but OOCly we're having it occur over three days. The current scheduled dates are 3/11 - 3/13, with 3/13 being the actual IC date. Since everyone will know whether they were selected or not prior to the end, we will be able to announce the winners on time while allowing participants to continue threading if needed. That said, we do want everyone involved to tag timely and focus on these threads.

Sign-ups will end on Monday, March 7 and everyone should get their notices before the 9th. If you have any questions, ask them here.

» ELECTION TIME

IT'S HAPPENING. Once again, refer to this post for information as well as to sign your character up for campaigning. As for the campaigns themselves, this is how it will work:

Schedule
The campaigns will last three days both ICly and OOCly. The start on 3/16 and end on 3/19.

Campaign Platforms
A log will be posted on 3/16. In this log, candidates will create a thread starter with whatever campaign speech they wish to say to try and cater votes. Others can then thread and ask questions. If you'd like an example, refer to the previous campaign.

Polling
On the same day as the log, we will throw up a poll that players will used. All votes will be cast ICly—you must select by how your character would vote. It will last until the end of the campaign. For an example, refer to the previous poll.

Announcements
We will announce the winners on 3/20.

This is also going to be a hard deadline type of event. We encourage all candidates to put their "platform" threads within the first day so players can at least have a rough idea of what to work with for voting.

» BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE

You may notice that on the calendar schedule there's a bunch of ??? during the last week of the month. There have also been hints and implications in other sections of this announcement. Based on these other factors, there will be another event of sorts at the end of March, but the details won't be finalized and discussed until Mid-March. Just consider this a heads up that there will be something else happening.

With a lot of elements and pieces now falling into place, the plot can finally come out of hibernation. Expect more to come in April!

Character: Bucky Barnes
Arehtei: Elios
Month Joined: March 2015
Success or Fail? Success
Backup? Sure, if he doesn't end up being chosen?
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Y, several times.
Why is your character running? Bucky feels like he has a connection to Elios in more than just the "aligned" sense, since they both appeared in Verens around the same time and are dealing with memory loss and terrible past actions. Because of that he's dedicated to figuring out all the mysteries of fixing this world, both so that the otherworlders can go home and to make sure Elios can get more aligned in the future and not be quite so lonely.
Why should your character be chosen: Bucky is on pretty good terms with Elios, as well as being fairly skeptical of the Arehtei in general, due to their unwillingness/inability to share all the relevant information. He's not the kind of person to beat around the bush, especially if he's got a direct question to ask, so he'd definitely be willing to be a go-between for people who want information from Elios without being overly hostile to the bird.
Challenge preferences: Hmm... I can't say there's anything I'd reject outright, but maybe something to do with his self-hate/lack of self-love (blaming himself for the assassinations he carried out while brainwashed, blaming himself for being unable break away from the conditioning and fully hate the people who brainwashed him, not fully believing he deserves good things) could be fun?? I'm not really sure what to expect about the tasks as far as specifics go. Maybe you could do something with his love for his best friend, too, since that's sort of been around for 98% of his life.

Otherwise I'm good with any kinds of challenges, be they physical or more deep philosophical type deals. He's been getting better at the latter lately. :D
Extra + Questions: Nothing I can think of?? maybe he can put an elios symbol on his shoulder instead of the star if he gets it

Success or Fail? Success
Backup? Preferably not, but I suppose if there's way too much demand then he can
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Y
Why is your character running? For the confidence/ego boost really. This is something he seriously wants to do in order to feel useful and redeem all the negativity he's caused. He also kinda wants to get to know Peromei even better so that's a bonus too. Emizel does sort of like Peromei to some extent, he's been pretty dedicated to her for quite some time now.
Why should your character be chosen: Emizel will take the job very seriously. He already swears to lead his own world someday so speaking on behalf an Arehtei is probably good internship experience for now (It'll look great on a resume that's for sure). He's also very honest about anything that doesn't have to do with his personal life/feelings, so he can be assure to give out appropriate information back and forth.

And besides, a small bitty fretting and taking care of a sparkle fluff pony is one of the best images Emp needs.
Challenge preferences: Well Emizel already got shoved into Peromei's maze last year, so something like one of those challenges could work again. Something that could try to stop him from moving forward, like a long dark corridor with unavoidable/invisible traps? He could have to hold on to hope to make it all the way through or else he can't escape. Or anything else similar to that sort. \O.o/
Extra + Questions: If I have any later I'll be sure to add them, but for now I think I'm good.

Character: Alvin
Arehtei: Piphron
Month Joined: August 2014
Success or Fail? Suc... ...See next field.
Backup? While it would be nice if Alvin succeeds, I'm actually fine with him being immediately cast out of the selection if there are others. So just slotting him as back-up.

Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? No. Because Pippy is dumb :V

Why is your character running? Alvin actually has a bit of a personal "score" to settle with Piphron. It all started with Piphron's memory pod, and after experiencing all of that and being able to relate to all of it, he immediately decided to switch his original alignment from Daimonia to Piphron. So he really is keen on trying to get Piphron out and prove that loyalty and trust can be salvaged despite everything else that's happen.

Why should your character be chosen: On the surface, this actually looks the WORST possible candidate. Alvin has a pretty shady past when it comes to trust and loyalty. Not only did he not trust other people much, but he was very quick to betray and use people for his own ends, thus creating distrust as well. However, that was in the past and he's changed. He's gone through the whole rigmarole of learning what it's like to not only trust people, but to also be trusted. This latter point is something he's working so hard to achieve. That said, he's also not idealistic. He's not like some do-gooder and blindly trusting. He also still will be the fall guy and play the traitor role if he has to. But therein lies an odd sense of "balance," of knowing who and when to trust, of understanding that not everything can be so peachy when it comes to relationships like that and some distrust is only natural to have, especially for caution. So since he's been through all of that, he just really wants to prove to Piphron that it can be done, and he'll be shoving a bunch of trust points at him, anyway.

Challenge preferences: Anything is fine things that would be pretty good (and by that I mean "horrible") would be anything that would dredge up his past issues. It could even be a kind of interrogation of why he did this or that. Maybe a challenge where he has to try and convince someone they have to trust him, even if he has to force it. ...IDK A BUNCH OF TRUST EXERCISES.

Extra + Questions: None.

Character: Aries Mu
Arehtei: Sosyne
Month Joined: October 2015
Success or Fail? Success
Backup? If not initially selected, then yes.
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? N

Why is your character running? Twofold: First off is that Mu feels like he can sympathize with that very strong undercurrent of loneliness that Sosyne gives off. Since he spent a good portion of his own life in relative isolation, he feels like that might make a good 'starting point' in building and maintaining a positive rapport with her. Mu's also still in the process of learning to be social again, so it can be a learning experience for both of them!

Secondly, Mu arrived in Verens almost immediately following Sosyne's rampage, and having seen what she's capable of, would like to be in a position to help subdue any further incidents like that or, in a worst case scenario, get a warning back to the city.

Why should your character be chosen:Mu tolerates exactly 0 bullshit, and will be making efforts to shut down any of her tantrums, and once he knows he's on good terms with the Ragewhale, will start working to coax her out of her isolation. While he's a firm individual, he's not unkind, and will be willing to serve as a go-between, and mediate conversations involving her as well. Experience with living alone in a rough climate and extremely powerful telepathy means he can comfortably stay out in the wilderness with Sosyne for prolonged periods of time and still be able to mantain contact with the city.

Furthermore, as detailed in his app, Mu is a very powerful individual, and while I doubt he'd be able to stop Sosyne in a full-blown rage, he'd certainly be willing to try if necessary, and hopefully at least buy time for the city to prepare.

Challenge preferences: Down for just about anything, but perhaps a challenge dealing with mental/emotional endurance, or a test of how long one can resist the influence of their Arehtei in a bad mood. I'm likewise not entirely sure what to expect so....yeah?

Extra + Questions: Nothing comes to mind!

Character: Junko Enoshima
Arehtei: Peromei
Month Joined: October 2014
Success or Fail? Success!
Backup? While she has her heart set on securing the position, I am completely fine with her being a backup. Though I shudder to think of what sort of terrible chain of events would have to happen to make her the only feasible replacement.
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? They've probably interacted more than Peromei would like that's for sure.

Why is your character running?
Yes.

To explain further, she's Junko. Of course she has underhanded motives here. She wants the whole world to be one giant perpetual despair party, so getting an official position with the Arehtei for hope and despair? The one she's sort of made it her mission to mess with here? Yeah, there's definitely some underhandedness here.

But at the same time? She's also completely serious about trying to get the position. She's of the opinion that the representatives should represent both sides of the coin and really, who better to represent the negative side than her? She's pretty sure she knows despair better than anyone else, and would like to think, what with making it her life goal to basically pummel hope into the ground, that she has a pretty good understanding of that one too.

Why should your character be chosen:
Honestly, she probably shouldn't be picked. She's a horrible person, her and Peromei aren't on good terms, and she's the type to throw anyone under the bus without a second thought if it'll create despair.

No don't stop reading, there's a but here. But while being picked would be rewarding absolutely terrible behavior and she probably wouldn't stop being herself anytime soon, it might actually be the lesser of two evils. Sure, it might cause more than a few headaches, but it'd put her in a high profile position where she'd actually have responsibilities, so it might reduce her chances of wallowing in despair for a couple months straight or doing whatever terrible idea might pop into her head next. Plus, what better way for Peromei to spread hope and try and move out of this weird balancing act, than by picking her and making people hope that she doesn't Junko everything and suddenly the entire island is on fire?

So you see, there's a possibility that things might turn out okay, even if, on paper, selecting her sounds like the biggest most awful most tragic decision in Arehtei history.

Challenge preferences:
I don't really know what you guys are going for with these, so here's just a few things worth mentioning. I'll try to keep it short since this is running a bit long as it is already.

Junko isn't really suited to any sort of physical/combat challenges, so unless Peromei is secretly horrible and wants her to despair over being stuck with a task she can't accomplish, that's probably not a good idea.

Challenging her to spread hope is an idea, but it'd probably also end in disaster and be setting herself up to fail and then provide some sort of emotional backlash. Since all she can really do is spread false hope, and who would honestly buy her trying to make people hopeful at this point?

She did fairly well in Peromei's maze, even while apathetic, so some sort of puzzle or logic challenge could work, but I'm not entirely sure how much that would show her qualifications to serve as rep. But if it's some sort of emotional puzzle or something, then that could work pretty well. Or at least I think so!

And lastly while a quiz or interview type thing could work, I'm not sure how wise it'd be. Normally, I'd say it's just words, but the last time her and Peromei had a face to face chat, it didn't end very well, so maybe let's not put her in a situation where she can talk her patron Arehtei into a puddle of despair again.

Extra + Questions: I can't think of anything at the moment!

Character: Shuu Tsukiyama
Arehtei: Aiada
Month Joined: September, 2015
Success or Fail? Success
Backup? If not initially chosen, sure!
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? N
Why is your character running? Tsukiyama is entirely serious about it – he was punched in the head pretty hard by Aiada's pod months ago, and he decided at that point that he was going to make a personal project out of her because he gets why negativity like that is entirely liable to screw somebody up. As far as he's concerned (and he's a little biased about it, admittedly), he's found ways to overcome negativity like that, and he'd like to spend time with her and try to assist her in that as well if she's still strongly negative like that.

Why should your character be chosen: Tsukiyama has actually been doing a fair amount of good for people just by being aggressively himself at them – he's basically full of manic appreciation for life, the world and everything almost all the time, and things like that have influenced a good amount of his close CR. He's very difficult to knock down emotionally; he's very...buoyant, I suppose one would say, and he's not easily swayed toward negativity despite being surrounded by it himself, so he's not as likely to accidentally be zinging emotional poison toward Aiada and making any negative situations worse.

He's also a lot more likely to be calculating than most would think, though; he isn't rash in his decisions, and he's good at working with people – it's the role he takes later in canon, mediating for people, and one that he would be able to take on here with little difficulty if assigned to do so. He's capable of being persuasive, but he also knows when to back off; he's also got a decent ability to recall large amounts of information and utilize it efficiently, which is a good trait to have in someone responsible for relaying and handling questions and concerns.

Basically, he's aggressively positive and he appreciates the unholy crap out of everything under the sun, he'll actually take the job seriously and it's something he's shown to be good at in general.

Challenge preferences: Tsukiyama does have issues due to his canon circumstances – there are implications that he had a lot of problems with accepting himself and his own inhuman nature for a while, so he pretty much shut any and all of his negative feelings down. He broke himself, in other words. I can imagine that's...probably something the Arehtei would want to verify won't be a problem in the future, given that they can probably sense that Something Is Sort of Wrong With This One. Some sort of challenge that would exploit that and make him either confront or answer for those particular issues would be good, most likely in the form of a mental/emotional challenge of some sort.

Otherwise, I'm not opposed to anything! Puzzles are also good, physical challenges are...okay (seeing as he's a literal inhuman monster we'd probably need to adjust for that if we go that way), job interviews from hell are fine, make him take an exam because apparently he wandered onto Feelings Island instead of sitting his goddamn college finals, I'm here for whatever.

Character: Lu Meng
Arehtei: Elios
Month Joined: Oct 2014
Success or Fail? Success
Backup? I'd prefer Luey to get chosen, but if he doesn't get chosen then I don't mind putting him up for Backup
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Yeap. A couple of times already.
Why is your character running? Lu Meng really wants to help out the Arehtei. He can somewhat understand why Elios isn't too keen on sharing information after having been burned (hah!) in the past, so that's why it's even more urgent that he does all he can to improve Arehtei-Empatheias/Otherworlder relationships. Not just for the benefit of the Empatheians/Otherworlders, but also for the benefit of the Arehtei themselves; he thinks the Arehtei are still sick and suffering from emotional imbalance. Both the people and Arehtei would benefit if the Arehtei recovered, since then the people would be able to feel their emotions more freely without worries of throwing the Arehtei into cray!mode again while the Arehtei would be overall in much better emotional health. He's come to care for Elios, and to a lesser extent Peromei, and he would really like to help the both of them recover from their past. He'd like to help restore the Arehtei to their former glory and position as emotional support for the people (like how he's seen them in some of the Memory Pods).
Why should your character be chosen: Lu Meng helped to pitch the idea of the representatives to Elios on Red's behalf. He's also been blunt with Elios previously on how there's a bit of frustration and distrust towards the Arehtei for holding back information. But he's also shared information with Elios on the state of the people, and (in a thread that's going to happen soon!) will be sharing some memories from the memory pod. With how he throws himself into causes he believes in, he would truly dedicate himself to the job if he's selected, and still try to help Elios even if he's not. He's genuinely fond of the bird and considers Elios a confidante on matters of love and hatred.

While Elios and Lu Meng come from two opposing concepts of how to deal with love, I think the position of representative would help both him and Elios to kind of balance each other out, with Lu Meng being the more rational side and Elios being the more emotional side. Lu Meng would also ardently learn more about love from Elios; since he's been in Emp he's been learning more about familial love and even (gasp!) romantic love, and it's been a bit of a rough life lesson so far but things are looking up!

Lastly, he's also a forward person. He'll be honest with Elios and not afraid to ask questions from the birb. His manner might be a little brusque at times, but he'll also equally fight for/defend Elios if people are spreading rumors or falsities about the birb. If Elios has any questions for the people, Lu Meng would definitely not hesitate to bring it up.

Challenge preferences: I think something Lu Meng has been struggling with lately is whether he deserves "love" (platonic, familial and romantic). He's struggled a lot with self-hatred in recent months, and while he's definitely made improvements he does have his moments when he wonders if he deserves the love that people have given to him. Also, something that challenges the whole concept of duty/propriety vs love. A challenge that places him in a situation where he'd have to pick his duties as a representative over saving those he cares about would be great! Especially if it forces him to abandon logical thought and just follow his feelings.

Lu Meng does well on both physical and puzzle challenges. Philosophical stuff isn't something he's particularly good at, but it would be what's needed in order to get him to think more about the role of love in his life.

Backup? If he fails, I'd like him to be a backup, but I'd prefer him chosen.
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Y
Why is your character running? He's running for the role because Peromei did a considerable amount of positive things for his mental state. Just as she was pulled out of the darkness by their striving to get to her in the maze. It tore him out of his own despair. While he would be content to just talk to her. Being able to assist her, and bring the aligned of their aspect closer together is important in his eyes.

At present they're scattered and in a time of crisis. That's hardly a way to help any of them should Peromei fall further into darkness or they themselves be corrupted.
Why should your character be chosen: Despite his faults, Komaeda is an intelligent individual that can spot when something is wrong very quickly. While he possesses a great amount of darkness within him, he has a strong potential for hope and even possibly capable of achieving balance between the two.

In canon he was very good at being the point man for trials, leading people to the killer. He could do the very same thing as a liason, in the sense of acting on the wishes and desires of the aligned and Peromei. His growing self confidence and strength keeps him from wavering. But Komaeda has always been capable of focusing well and utilizing his skills or coaxing others to the best of their abilities.

His relationship with Peromei has been one of mutual discovery and growing belief. But he isn't afraid to ask the difficult questions. One shouldn't hide from the truth, according to him.
Challenge preferences: I think similar challenges to the maze would be a lot of fun. Pitting him against the darkness within him or even showing how he can work with someone else, are good challenges! A very fun idea would be to coax him to display both sides of her aspect. Hope can not exist without despair, as he's learning and starting to believe.
Extra + Questions: Uh nothing at present.

Month Joined: March 2015
Success or Fail? Success
Backup? No. I'm really striving for success here. Hopefully hurr hurr

Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Yes, a few times.

Why is your character running? Armin has a personal fondness for Peromei, after meeting a few times. He also realizes that people often have questions for Arehtei that don't get answered because they simply can't find them, and having representatives might help alleviate this problem.

Why should your character be chosen: Armin's relationship with hope has been central to his character development, both in game and in canon. Hope drives him; it's what he relies on when the outlook is grim, it's a distant dream that fuels him through challenges normal people would otherwise call impossible. It's what's fulfilled him ever since he was a child.

His hope is also more pragmatic and realistic than most. It's not as though he feels shining optimism towards all things-- those impossible challenges I just mentioned? Armin often feels that they're impossible too. But he knows that nothing will be gained unless you try. And try he does. Again, and again, and again. His hope becomes even stronger as he struggles, until it becomes belief.

In game, he has fought with the idea of Arehtei, and magic that relies on emotion. At first, he felt it was invasive, and unfair. People can't help what they feel, right? But after awhile, becoming more in touch with his emotions has improved his general outlook on life, and he (sometimes begrudgingly) realizes that striving for inner harmony benefits him as a whole.

He also just likes Peromei. He remembers their talks well, even when they weren't under the best of circumstances, and he wishes her all the best.

Challenge preferences: A good challenge would be one that addresses the fact that Armin's hope is not some kind of magic lightblub that's always on-- he's not blindly optimistic at all times. Hope is his struggle, not his nature. It's something he fights for.

Armin also operates on a moral greyscale. While he feels personal grief at the loss that's been caused by war, he also understand it's necessity, and has made choices that led to people's deaths. His feelings on the matter are easily summed up by two of his more famous quotes: "No one person is good for everyone." and "In order to defeat monsters, we must also become monsters." So a task that challenges that aspect of his personality would be good too.

Extra + Questions: No questions! If it means anything, Armin has a very good activity record, and I'm on every day, so people wouldn't have to wait long on me if Armin is needed to do representative duties.

Backup? Sure.
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Yes, a couple of times.
Why is your character running? Steve generally likes and trusts Daimonia and wishes to help her if she ever needs it.

Why should your character be chosen: He's been getting better at showing grief to a couple of individuals and Steve overall has a healthy mixture of feeling both joy and sadness. It's easy for him to be happy at certain things, but he also has those days where he just feels sad because of Bucky or something else. Steve would probably do his best to listen to Daimonia and he's usually interested in what she has to say anyway.

Challenge preferences: Maybe challenges that center around Steve's difficulty in admitting some of his grief that bothers him, especially to people that aren't Bucky or Peggy. He has a difficult time with that still, since he usually tries to keep everything in. He dislikes putting his problems on other individuals. On the other hand, Steve's generally good about showing joy and spreading that around.

Why is your character running? Lithia is very serious and very much wants to help Aiada. She did just recently change her alignment for that very same purpose.
Why should your character be chosen: Lithia is definitely a very kind person and very capable of being positive nearly all the time. She's also got enough of a backbone to deal with most situations. She's also very patient and incredibly knowledgeable on the subject of emotions.
Challenge preferences: I think something good would be to really try and push her towards being negative. Envy isn't an impossible emotion for Lithia, but it's a rare one. Another possible idea could be to test her limits of being able to find a positive in many situations. The main thing is that it may be best to not go with anything too physically demanding since she'll barely be recovered from coming back from dying at this point.

Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Y, constantly
Why is your character running? Gwen feels like she has a connection and understanding about Sosyne that goes beyond being aligned with her. She makes sure to keep in some kind of constant mental contact and gives energy 'hugs' to the whale when she senses she's down. Once meeting Sosyne her efforts to repair the world have doubled because she wants Sosyne to be able to see the beautiful oceans that she showed Gwen.

She's also a generally calm and level headed individual which, when dealing with someone as angry as Sosyne, she feels will be very beneficial.
Why should your character be chosen: Gwen's personal story line has been pretty heavily involved with the Arehtei and, since her showing up, Sosyne. She has been heavily engaged with interacting with her since her arrival and feels she has an understanding of her that most people don't really bother to look into. She's actually generally able to deal with Sosyne's biting words and take out of them what they mean as well as offer up an understanding from her own personal experiences.

She's also been an extremely active voice in regards to the Arehtei. She was the first to propose friendship to Elios and in fact, looks at him as a good friend. She looks at the Arehtei not as gods or creatures to be revered, but as individuals to befriend and understand. She has a strong desire to work with them in order to heal the planet rather then looking to them for all the answers on how they're supposed to do it.
Challenge preferences: Anything about her own personal love like gets a little awkward. She's still really emotionally raw over the fact that her boyfriend went home (right before Valentine's day too). Attacks on her family are also things that will bring up her anger.

Success or Fail? Success, hopefully!
Backup? Sure!
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Nope!
Why is your character running? They want to help out! Frisk is the kind of kid who sticks their nose into everything to try to help how they can, and this is no different. They may get the (mistaken or not) impression that this would be good ambassador practice!
Why should your character be chosen: I didn't realize it until after I was mostly done working on it, but Frisk's character arc as I wrote it for Empatheias has ended up suiting their alignment of Piphron really well. It runs the full gamut - from suspicion and mistrust even edging into fear, to reaching out to trust others again. Additionally their castmate drama in-game thus far has been pushing them to explore that yet again - from regarding Sans with a constantly wary eye to opening up to Alphys. So Frisk has a pretty decent understanding of the range that Piphron represents. Additionally, if Frisk found out that as a representative they'd be able to help better, and that looking for Piphron would help out a lot, they'd be very eager to help!
Challenge preferences: For Frisk in particular the Arhetei might want to assign a task or ask questions that help prove that Frisk would be a good candidate despite their young age and inexperience! Perhaps a task that tests their understanding of others and/or where they're falling on Piphron's spectrum? Or their own ability to trust others and get others to trust them, since that's been under fire lately. I can't think of anything I wouldn't like off the top of my head though I'll edit if this changes!

Backup? sure I'd be fine as a back-up!
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? she had tried to talk to Sosyne at the lake, mostly to vent and brow-beat her. also she tried to fly up to attack her when Sosyne first appeared in the city.
Why is your character running? SHE'S... KIND OF irritated with Sosyne for avoiding punishment for attacking the city in the first place! that's totally unfair right?! so she'd like to keep an eye on the Arehtei and also wonders if she could possibly dish out that long-awaited punishment if she's in the position of a rep.
Why should your character be chosen: she's grumpy and has a bit of a short fuse just like angerwhale does!! okay, that's not a real pitch, but Reimu does have a strong sense of justice and is honestly curious about the Arehtei she's aligned to. she'll say she has a grudge against angerwhale, but she's not actually the kind of person who would hold onto resentments and have them turn toxic. she's very emotionally healthy or even easily-detached, in a kind of zen way. even if she taps into her anger really easily, she's very emotionally stable and balanced and not much truly disturbs/ruffles her. she would say out loud that she's not interested in befriending Sosyne, but she is kind of a helpful type at heart and would rather have Sosyne move on from her anger. just because it would be a pain in the ass otherwise.

also she really does honestly want to kick Sosyne's ass extremely belatedly if possibly haha...
Challenge preferences: UHH REIMU honestly doesn't have much inner conflict at all!! she's extremely comfortable and accepting of herself and has little self-doubt so wow, I'm kinda drawing up a blank. her job is conflict resolution through FIGHTING so challenges in which she can't solve things just by beating people up can work! she's pretty adaptable though and even if she'll complain about it, she'd be up for the challenge.

Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Yup.
Why is your character running? It's to further her own agenda, but it's an agenda that benefits the Arehtei in her mind. Admittedly she's only halfway serious about this, since she'd like to be an Otherworlder representative too and one or the other will support her, but it's not like she won't try her best anyway.

Why should your character be chosen: She'd like to very much work towards not only strengthening relationship between the Arehtei and the Otherworlders by acting as a rep, but also strengthening the ties between the Arehtei themselves as well as with the natives of the world. That's her main gig.

Additionally... White's also really honest about things, so if asked about anything by the Arehtei or anyone else she'd come out with it (minus Very Specific Things she is literally sworn to secrecy about). Can't say anything about if she's a positive force though. Daimonia has felt her overwhelming sadness as much as Elios has felt her self-hatred, but the latter ties in well with her grief and self-pity over things she feels she can't change. It'd be nice for her to be able to come to terms about some things along the way. Like her parent's sacrifice.

Challenge preferences: Anything where she has to make a decision between her own happiness and someone else's would be amazing to play out as a challenge, though it's up to your discretion on material to use. She doesn't handle her grief well (or any of her negative feelings actually, just bottles them all up and tries to forget them so no one worries) so something with that would be nice too? If I think of anything else I'll add it on.
Extra + Questions: Not really.

Why is your character running? Uh well he is a spirit so he'd like to converse and likely help the arehtei speak with the humans here. Given his position on the matter I can't see him not trying.

Why should your character be chosen: Given that Takato is a spirit I feel like he'd be easily aligned and able to understand the arehtei in general?! He's got the whole being somewhat equal thing going on.

Challenge preferences: Just being outgoing in general would be hard for him but it'd also allow him to grow because he'd be doing it not only for himself but for the arehtei he represents as well! Also speaking in general with humans is something he struggles with so this challenge would be a good thing to get him back on his feet. The death of his master (whom he killed in self defense) is another challenge that would a-okay to dredge up again.

Why is your character running? Shun is genuinely interested in Daimonia, and even though she reassured him otherwise, he feels a bit bad for never really being able to do much about the test she first assigned the Otherworlders. He wants to do what he can to not only help her, but also the Otherworlders - as far as he can tell, Daimonia seems to be not only one of the most knowledgeable of the Arehtei, but also the most forthcoming.
Why should your character be chosen: He's dedicated to trying to get as much knowledge about the world out to everyone in ways that can be helpful to both the Arehtei and the Otherworlders. He'll definitely be engaging Daimonia for opportunities to learn more if they're both available for it, and relaying information between her and everyone else. Since he's so levelheaded, he's also pretty good about doing so without letting his emotions get in the way.
Challenge preferences: Once he starts feeling badly, it can be hard for him to get his feelings back to the positive side, so something in that vein would probably be the best angle to get at him!

Success or Fail? No preference, I'm cool with whichever result we get here
Backup? Sure that's fine
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Yes, he's spoken with Daimonia a few times before.

Why is your character running? He's talked about it a little before with Alvin and Red, but he's thought for a while now that it would be good to have an Arehtei representative, provided that it's one that the Arehtei themselves have chosen. And he likes Daimonia well enough that he wants to help her out here, so he's willing to give this a shot.

Why should your character be chosen: As both as Pokemon Connoisseur and Gym Leader, Cilan does have some slight experience when it comes to being a representative of something. (Or at least in his case, it was being the Gym Leader representing his city rather than an emotions god, but still...) He wants nothing more than to help strengthen the relationship between the Arehtei and the people living here, and he feels that he's positive and level-headed enough to make that happen. (And by doing so, maybe it will help him come to terms with some of those negative feelings he has sometimes too...)

Challenge preferences: Okay, so. The truth of the matter is that Cilan tends to handle grief by... well, putting everyone else's grief before his own: as long as he's able to do something to help others and make his friends feel better, it's pretty easy to not think about his own feelings that much. However, we are creeping up now on it being a full year since Cilan's arrival in this place and lately he has started to slip a little in regards to trying to make those feelings unnoticeable...

So, having a challenge that would somehow make him confront those negative feelings could be interesting. (And making it so that he would also have to try to solve the challenge without the help of his Pokemon could certainly be good too?)

Extra + Questions: Nope, nothing coming to mind right now.

Why is your character running? He's wanted to help the Arehtei since he first showed up, and Aiada is no exception; he's actually really grateful to her in particular- you could say he appreciates her- because he became aligned to her instead of Sosyne when Sosyne traumatized the hell out of him. She's an Arehtei he definitely wants to help before things get too dire with her, if he can.
Why should your character be chosen: His occupation as a Pokédex Holder ends up being something along the lines of "help the legendary Pokémon and do your best to understand it". He's done this several times before and Arehtei are similar enough (big, powerful, tend to wreck everything when they show up) that he thinks of them both the same way. They're both powerful, they're to be respected, and he wants to understand them and help them coexist peacefully with everyone else.
Challenge preferences: I don't mind any kind of challenges, personally, but physical challenges or puzzles would probably be easier for him than anything psychological or questioning him. He's better at actions than communication by a long shot. Additionally, something he doesn't like to think about much (because he appreciates his friends! He has so much more here!) is the fact that he's been alone without any of his friends from home for over a year now, and he's envious of others for having the people they care about around, because really without his friends from home he's a little lost and Trying His Best. A challenge that can bring this to light and make him come to terms with it might be nice.

Arehtei: Thras
Month Joined: January 2016.
Success or Fail? Success
Backup? Sure! I will gladly be a back-up to a more competent canidate.
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? Nope!

Why is your character running? It was offhandedly suggested to Trahearne by his former commander, Syrlya. After careful consideration of its duties, he found himself capable enough to give it a shot with his experience as marshal. He thinks it would be a nice position to have, but would not take it as a huge loss not to.

Why should your character be chosen: Trahearne has a lot of experience in handling people. As Pact Marshal in his canon, he was faced with doubts, questions, and vital decision making. He delivers eloquent and inspiring speeches, though he has not done so much of that on the island so far. While he has a little apprehension towards Thras given the Arehtei's form (he has experience with destructive dragons, whoops), he is very eager to learn more about the world and work for/with him. Plus Thras was powered by actions through war, and so was Trahearne in his canon.

Challenge preferences: I don't think there's anything I would refuse to put him through! I'd be excited for anything thrown at him, really. But regarding anything specific he may have to overcome... He doesn't get out much anymore, and he deals with the burden of so many lives lost due to his decisions. He used to be terrified of his vulnerability to enemies, but he went pretty well protected in his duties as Marshal up until the second dragon he faced. He gets anxiety being on airships because of that same dragon. So anything having to do with being in the face of danger again, or dealing with people's anger or loss would probably make him have some growth.

Extra + Questions: Would he get to touch the gold dragon at least once. Would that be a thing. He'd so want to just to make sure he's not gonna die.

Backup? If he doesn't get it, then sure!
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? No

Why is your character running? Archer is very serious about this. Part of that is obviously because this is a position of power, but a good amount of the reason is curiosity. He's decided he's going to get more involved with things in Verens and the Arehtei are particularly interesting. Piphron is one he doesn't know much about and due to his alignment, he'd be very curious about the position and working with the Arehtei. He's already got some experience working with nonhumans-- oh wait, he was just blackmailing a Homunculus, but that's not the point.

Why should your character be chosen: As a member of the Amestrian military, Archer has experience leading people. He's not as experienced as several of the other military members in Verens, but he does know what he's doing and serving as a representative wouldn't be anything too difficult for him. While he isn't the best at handling social situations, he's determined and dedicated and he's an incredibly hard worker. He does know his limitations and he's willing to work on those because he's actually attempting to do this in a way that isn't just for the position of power. (Though that is definitely a plus.)

Challenge preferences: Anything physical is uh, mostly out of the question. Archer is better at handling questions and research papers and other boring things like that; he genuinely enjoys that sort of thing. Puzzles and interviews are fine, basically anything that would challenge him mentally. He does have a good amount of emotional problems to work through, particularly involving trust.

Why is your character running? Jude thinks understanding more about the Arehtei and their relationship with humans is important for finding a way to heal this world. After what he’s learned about Piphron, both through talking with him, talking to other Arehtei and the memory tree pods, Piphron seems the most likely to have more answers and also the most potentially dangerous. He’s also concerned about the effects a very negatively influenced Piphron would have if he ever arrived on the island, not just on himself but also on his very much more vulnerable friends (Alvin...)
Why should your character be chosen: Piphron’s story reminds Jude a lot of a certain spirit he knew back home. A spirit he actually has here in spyrite form, as well. But basically since Jude was able to get through to Maxwell, he thinks he'll be able to get through to Piphron as well. Teaching powerful spirit beings about the strength of the human heart and all that!!

Why is your character running? To put it simply, he wants to be useful and help out. And after seeing Thras' memory pod at the Night of Selenium, he feels like he can understand the Arehtei at least a little, because he felt much the same way when he first became a Knight of Ratatosk.
Why should your character be chosen: For one thing, Emil is actually a spirit himself (not that he is aware of this just yet, however), so in a way he has a sort of natural connection to the Arehtei. On the surface... well, he really doesn't seem like the bravest person, but when push comes to shove, there's a good deal of courage in there. A large part of his character development in canon has to do with overcoming his fears and learning to break out of his shell, which seems like it would lend itself quite well to working with Thras.

Also, he's a very kind and helpful person, so trying to help the Arehtei just seems natural to him.

... and then there's Ratatosk, who could throw a wrench into the whole thing because he DOESN'T like humans much at all. It could make for some interesting conflict, especially because Ratatosk hasn't really had any opportunities to make an appearance just yet.
Challenge preferences: Something that would be great for Emil would be putting him into a situation where he has to overcome something that scares him or something that requires him to believe in himself and his abilities, as those are both things he has trouble with. Something that requires teamwork would be great as well.

Backup? If someone else is chosen, sure.
Has your character interacted with the Arehtei before? No.

Why is your character running? Edward has been trying to research the Arehtei off and on since his arrival here. He wants to understand them, what their purpose actually is and what -- if any -- connection they have to them getting back home. It's an intense curiosity that he's had to put by the wayside a couple of times during certain events, but it's always been there. So suffice to say, he's very serious about this. Ed doesn't go into things half assed, ever. It's always the whole ass.

Why should your character be chosen: As someone who is aligned to Sosyne, he's actually quite familiar with the destructive, consuming feeling of anger. He is, afterall, a very angry person himself. However, despite the fact his anger is somewhat used as comic relief at times, Edward still manages to function through it, and in a lot of cases his anger fuels his desire to keep going. Ed's smart enough to know why Sosyne is so overwhelmingly tipped to the side of anger, it's a common and easy emotion to get swept up in. He's been there, bro.

It's not that Ed doesn't have his calmer, introspective, and somber moments either. He definitely does have those moments when they're needed -- Ed may be a lot of things, and say and do shit at inappropriate times that gets him into trouble, but he does at least recognize the need for control at times. It's just... hard to do.

Edward is also stubborn enough not to give up on the angry whale either, so it's kind of like the immovable force meeting the unstoppable object. At some point there will have to be some sort of give, and the both of them could possibly walk away with having worked through at least some of their baggage. Nothing involving Sosyne is going to happen overnight, so someone like Edward who's stubborn enough to sit through it couldn't hurt right? He'll just have to learn to be a bit more patient along with that stubbornness.

It might just do Sosyne good to go through working with her anger and finding her calmness along with someone, rather than them waiting for her at the finish line.

Challenge preferences: I would prefer something that was less physically oriented and more oriented towards his own rather explosive temper. He can definitely rise to physical challenges but the latter is something that would actually give him a challenge.

Extra + Questions: Bring it, Sosyne.
