Voting Season

— IT'S VOTING SEASON —

As we mentioned in our January Mod Announcement, we are down to one IC political representative. With the upcoming need for future diplomatic relations with Shaarnath, the Otherworlders are going to need more than one to handle it!

Princess Celestia made an IC Announcement earlier this month, and since things are kind of busy both on the player front and game front with Night of Selenium, it would be better if we held the IC campaigns come February.

But that doesn't mean those interested can't prep for it! Like last time, we're going to start with some OOC sign-up that doubles as an IC registration, and then have an IC campaign log later. Between now and then, characters who are running can go ahead and start talking and discussing their run, but it will be the IC campaign where they will be on an official platform and where characters will cast their votes.

The character must voluntarily sign themselves up. No write-ins! This may change if it turns we don't have enough people running on their own! But we would like to see how many characters would willingly put themselves up for the position.

The only other requirement we will be placing is the character must have joined the game prior to February. So the latest a character must have been apped in is January. This is just so there is at least some IC establishment for the character, as well as gives a bit more insurance that players signing up are going to stick to the game for a little while.

One final thing: players, don't forget that you'll be committed to this role as well. Fortunately it's not that heavy of a responsibility and not called upon too often, but just keep that in mind. Your characters could get fired from poor performance!

How voting will work is we'll use the same system as last time. A DW poll will be posted and players will vote ICly for the candidates. The top two will earn their place.

Now, for the sign-ups! We're going to reuse the forms from last time, so just fill these out and comment to the post. If you have any questions, ask them here.

I'm probably showcasing my ignorance here, but what is it that the representatives actually DO? What powers do they have that they wouldn't have outside of the position?

Player: Peace
Character: White
Month Joined: August

Why would your character be a good fit to be representative? White's a really driven girl! She wants to be able to change something, wants to leave some kind of impact, but that's something more private to herself. While she doesn't have experience in leadership or politics of any kind, she's been rather good in gaining the attention and interest of others with her boldness, making her a somewhat memorable person with... interesting opinions. It isn't so much that she's a "good fit" or thinks herself that (in fact she knows there's probably others with a better chance at it) but that she wants to be able to do more as someone who isn't very special at all, someone who's used to a life that balances chaos and peace, humans and monsters, etc etc. Hellsalem's Lot really prepared her for that.

White, as someone who is one of those people, would want to understand different sides as best she could whether the person in question is human, Arehtei, native, local, Otherworlder, nonhumanoid, or a creature others want dead. Especially in regards to relations with Shaarnath, which she is in support of allying with and having them more formally teach dunamis not just to Otherworlders but to the natives of Empatheias as well.

With the Arehtei as they are too -- there's some things she'd like to have sway in talking about, control over certain things, particularly regarding apathy and the possibility of being able to do treatments on them to depress their more hurtful turmoils... it's still a touchy, controversial topic, but it's one that White finds promise in, and especially with Doctor Kirishima gone she's rather determined to do something about it! Or try, anyway. She's not someone who gives up easily.

tl;dr White has no experience whatsoever but she's a very spirited, determined young woman who's got ideas she'd like to personally put into practice. Maybe not the most peaceful person. But someone who wants to thrive in importance.

Would your character run to just troll the masses/create chaos? ... maybe later on or if the thing in her brother's body wanted to use her position to his advantage, since she's got zero say in those circumstances, but otherwise nope

Yup! I figure she won't be allowed into both representative spots, which is why either or would be fine for her in her mind. She'd still want to try for both though (and why it's only half serious).

Player: Eek
Character: Gordon Freeman
Month Joined: June 2015

Why would your character be a good fit to be representative? Gordon earnestly wants to continue where Naomi left off. Knowledge is their first and best tool in mediating differences, he believes, and a remarkable number of conflicts can be resolved just by clarifying a misunderstanding or lack of information. Physical conflict is a last resort, and if there's no choice but to use it, it should be swift and decisive and use every advantage given to you.

He's warmed to the idea of living with the Arehtei, and that is partially Thras' doing and partially his theory that the Arehtei are going to be around as long as Otherworlders experience emotion. (And it would be a far worse thing if they didn't) Therefore, they may as well learn to get along. Also he's in favor of allying with Shaarnath. Their technology, and Dumamis in particular, are things that the Otherworlders and natives deserve access to. It might be the key to bringing the people of Varens into a position where they are no longer at the mercy of the Arehtei, which is all he really wants.

He's on good terms with the people native to the world, and he doesn't really care if someone isn't human. One can be humane and not necessarily be human, after all.

Would your character run to just troll the masses/create chaos? He wouldn't intend to cause chaos, no. HOWEVER, hell has an interesting tendency to break loose around the man, whether he wants it to happen or not...
