HMD: May
All right guys, here's our first ever gamewide HMD. Here are a few things you should know as well as the rules and guidelines to how to participate in this HMD.
- Optional. This is not a mandatory HMD. You do not have to participate, however we highly encourage those who have questions or want tips to comment.
- Public + Optional Anon + IP Logging On. Due to the results of the previous poll, we've decided to try and compromise. This is open to the public, so those outside of the game can give critique. There is no requirement to join the community. Anonymous commenting is turned on however IP logging remains on and players can say whether they want anonymous comments or not. If a player has requested only logged-in critique, please respect their wishes. Not everyone is comfortable with anonymous.
- Those giving crit: be polite and constructive. This HMD is to help players improve their playing and thereby improve the experience of everyone. It is also to help players point out things that might be questionable. Sometimes there are legitimate reasons for it, and sometimes it's a misinterpretation or clear mistake. Regardless, your crit should be helping the other player see their mistake and/or offer ways to help improve. You can be frank, you can be blunt, but you should not be disrespectful. Crit can be a hard pill to swallow, and while you shouldn't have to sugarcoat it, you can try to make it more palatable. In addition, try to provide actual examples of what you're talking about. It will help facilitate the discussion and give a better idea of your point.
- Those receiving crit: be open-minded and receptive. Receiving critique can be very difficult, but if you're participating in this HMD, then that must mean you are prepared for that possibility. If you receive critique that doesn't make sense, do not be defensive. Instead ask questions and try to clear up misunderstandings. In addition, be open to what people have to say. Sometimes we have blinders on when playing our characters and may not see problems that others do. Be willing to compromise as well. Maybe you don't agree with everything that is said, but there could be helpful nuggets in there. If there are things you are specifically worried about, you should include it in your comment. This could help others help you.
- Going Anon. If a player has opted for anonymous critique, it should be written no different than if you were giving it while logged in. All of the above rules apply. Basically think of it this way: if you wouldn't say it while logged in, then don't say it anon. The only real reason to allow anonymous here is to help those who want to give meaningful crit, but are shy or afraid for whatever reason. It is not to be abused.
- Monitoring. We will be monitoring this post, and if any harassment is found, it will be immediately screened and frozen. Any repeat offenders will be banned. Any anonymous abuse will result in anonymous turned off. If there is anything to report, contact us.
If you understand how this HMD works, fill out the appropriate form and comment to this post. The questions should help players have some structure and formulate how and what to write what they want.
RECEIVING CRIT:
Player:
Character(s):
Personal HMD? If you have a personal HMD, you can link to that as well.
Anon allowed? Yes or No
Concerns: Any concerns you have that you'd like others to try and help you with. Is there something about your characterization that you feel off? Do you wish to improve your writing? Do you need tips how to be more engaging?
Anything else: Anything else you'd like to mention, such as any notes about the character or canon material that you feel others should be aware of. For example, if your character is from one version and not another and how that might affect characterization.
GIVING CRIT:
Main issues: What main issues do you have with this character or player? Are they leaning toward OOC? Are they forgetting to behave a certain way? Are they hard to tag?
Advice/Suggestions: What advice or suggestions do you have? This could either be related to the above field or completely separate.
Positive Notes: What positive things can you say that the player should continue to do or build on? This isn't a "buttpat" field, but positive criticism can be just as constructive and can help build confidence. There should be no "pure gushing" here. Positive criticism can also alleviate any stings in the previous fields.
Anything else: Anything else you feel worth mentioning.
Whether we continue with this format or try for something different next time will depend on feedback received on a later date, so consider this a test run.
The mod/game critique thread can be found here.

And honestly in the past I've found hang-ups to be a fun way to start CR. Like... if Takasugi ever got hung up on, it'd piss him off and make him seek that character out. Like "OH BITCH, NO YOU DIDN'T, COME HERE, I'M NOT DONE WITH YOU." So just keep giving things a try and see what sticks to what characters; you can't really predict what other people are going to do with what you give them.
Shizuo's angry log: this milk is too fucking expensive, what is wrong with you people.

Oh man. ...Oh man if someone did that to Shizuo—oh man I really want it. I'm the type of player that's actually okay if random things like that happen (that is, while I may be cautious toward players, I don't mind people not being so toward me—I am odd) so... Yes. Maybe I could also try and help by leaving a fun note at the end of such tag like "Shizuo is pissed and has left the conversation. Do you a) leave him alone or b) haul his ass back in here" to help communicate with the other player. /ponder
LOL There's been an extreme milk shortage and everything that uses milk has tripled in price. At first he's like "Oh well that's a bummer okay" and tries to return but they're like "NOPE YOU GOTTA PAY IT AND KEEP IT" and then they regret.

I love doing stuff like that; just go with the natural flow of the thread! I reel people back in pretty frequently. Takasugi did it with Jake earlier when he tried to walk off and it was like "where u goin'. hey. hey i'm not done w you." There's no point on either player to have a short thread that just ends and you'll find characters that are willing to stand up to Shizuo, I'm sure!
No it's just for Shizuo. Only him so it pisses him off. "We notice you drink a lot of milk so you have to pay extra and it's watered down. Yes this is discrimination against dye jobs, dwi."

WOW HE SEES HOW IT IS. ISN'T DISCRIMINATION AGAINST THE RULES?? DOESN'T THAT MAKE THEM BAD PEOPLE?? GUESS THEY DON'T WANT THEIR STORE ANYMORE THEN.
And then the island's life is reduced even faster.

KEKEKEKE FANTASTIC SUCCESS. Once Takasugi actually meets him in person, he's so calling him dye job. How could you try to hide your beautiful Japanese ancestry like this. You have betrayed your people and, more importantly, me.

and then he just looks good in it so let's keep it kekekeIt is kind of funny how they might hold a few similar values. But then it'll probably be chucked out the window whenever Takasugi pisses him off.
