I guess it kind of makes sense, though.

She spends most of the series either stoic, pissed off at Kyuubey / circumstances / Madoka or upset in some form or another.

There's like 10 minutes of screentime in the series proper where she is anything else.

I'm pretty sure she smiles more in Rebellion Story than the first two movies and the original series combined.
