TEST DRIVE: JANUARY
Welcome to
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
- Date reminders. Reserves open Friday, December 25th and Applications (Canon | OC) open Friday, January 1st.
- OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are currently allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• Prompt D: A new card game is sweeping through the streets of Verens: "Magica Ex Arehtei." Players take on the role of an Otherworlder and form battle decks out of minions, monsters, dunamis, and even the Arehtei themselves. It’s insanely complicated in its details, but this hasn’t stopped a seller from handing you a starter deck and all but pushing you into a chair to face an opponent… who may have just been conscripted themselves.
• Prompt E: After a long period of quiet (something about ‘emotional and physical harm to Empatheias’ and ‘manufacturing plush weapons without a Class E(X) license’), toy manufacturers have flooded merchant stalls and storefronts with a new offering, the hyper-cute stuffed Thras. No negative emotions, they promise! Plush Thras is so full of bravery, he’ll inspire anyone who holds him to new heights of courage and valor!
Naturally, magiscience has gone too far, and picking up the doll instills you with vigor, energy, and fearlessness past the point of recklessness.
• Prompt F: Thundersnow! A phenomenon in which a snowstorm is accompanied by lightning and thunder, and not a terribly uncommon one in Empatheias. But today’s thundersnow is more like an apocablizzard -- lighting lashes through the sky and lances down to catch buildings and trees with its fury, all hidden behind whirling sheets of billowing snowflakes that have blanketed the city in a foot of snow with no sign of stopping.
The outside is cold, windy, miserable, and potentially dangerous. Are you trapped in a building you didn’t expect to be in? Or perhaps you’ve joined up with an emergency emotion squad, trying to impose calm or cheer on the raging storm?
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include lumps of coal or moose.

For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
Frisk | Undertale
Everybody can hear this? Well um...
[Their general demeanor changes from lightly curious to full-blown cheerful and open.]
Hi everybody! I didn't get here very long ago but I want to go looking around the island. I can go by myself, but I wanted to see if there was anybody who wanted to go too! Especially if you're from the Underground, you're finally here on the Surface. We're even above the surface! And, if any surface stuff doesn't make sense I can try to explain it. Though maybe stuff here is different from back home.
[Huh. Turns out their mental filter isn't nearly as thorough as their verbal one.]
But then that means we get to discover it together!
[They pause for a moment, then seem to realize something.]
Oh, I guess things could be different from everybody else's homes too, huh? We can discover new stuff together then too.
So just um, just tell me if you want to go.
[It'll be fun!]
F
[The snow's practically up to their knees, but that's not going to stop them. Frisk is determined. This is a really bad storm, and there's probably a lot of people in trouble. Or could be if the snow gets too much worse.
They're running, running as best they can through the deepening drifts, and all that determination... is making the snow falling stop once it gets about a foot from them. And then... then instead it swirls behind them, gathering them there, creating a pile of snow that just keeps growing as it follows Frisk. A sort of unstoppable mini-avalanche. On the plus side, it's leaving a temporarily clear-of-snow trail behind them as they run.
Ask them what they're doing? Try to catch up with them? Get this small child inside and warming up before things get too much worse? If anyone wants to do something, it's probably best to do it. Frisk's just going to keep going otherwise.]

Have an idea? Go ahead and hit me up or message me at
F!!
Still, he'd need more practice than he already had to stop himself wincing - yeesh, it's behind him and he can still smell the smoke. That means his pace slows for a moment, and that means he catches sight of... a kid? A kid who just tore out of a side street in front of him and is going to pass him in a second.
For crying out loud, he thinks at the ripe old age of eighteen. Time flies when you're having fun, that he can understand, but there's gotta be a limit! Preferably one that stops before anyone gets hypothermia and/or struck by lightning. That stuff bites.
He raises his voice.] Hey, are you -
[WHUMP. Yosuke's surprise scatters some of the pursuing snowdrift the instant it hits him, but not a moment sooner. Over he goes, face-first into the clearer ground below.]

As soon as that settles, Frisk begins wriggling and kicking their feet, flailing as they try to get some purchase or surface so they can lever themselves upright when surrounded by snow. Their feet are moving in midair so they're exposed.. they think?
Not the most graceful maneuver but there are other, more important things when you're about nine or ten or so.]
no subject
In any case, it's muted once he's finally upright enough to spot where the kid went. Whoops. He can't even be certain that isn't his fault. Not that he would admit to having much experience of positions like that, but... yeah, probably a good idea to pull them out.
He crunches a bit closer, and manages to duck around the kid's thrashing legs in the process. Well, that's one moment of success he's had today.] Geez, this is what parents should be doing... You okay there? Need a hand?
no subject
I think I'm stuck.
[That'd be a yes.]
no subject
[Guess he'd better crouch down next to the little... wait, did they look like a guy or a girl a second ago? They must be young if he can't tell. Thank goodness for gloves, at any rate.
...There's a lot of snow piled up here, though, even ignoring what's still falling. What on earth was the kid doing with it? Also, how? Is it going to sprout four legs and a wagging tail any second now?]
no subject
Will that help?
[Even so, their mind's already drifting to Hotland, to volcanic heat and whirring vents, lasers and conveyor belts. Of Alphys and Mettaton and Magma Hotsguy and Sans stacking hot dogs on top of their head. And really... really all sorts of things.
Huh... the weight of snow on top of them does seem to be getting lighter, they think.]
C
[Whoever they are, they sound young-- it could be dangerous! (Thinks the eleven year old, anyway).]
no subject
Monsters? It's okay then! A lot of my friends are monsters. I know grownups always tell stories about how monsters are scary and want to eat you and stuff and I was scared when I first met them too, but they're not so bad. You just... you gotta be nice to them!
no subject
...Hrrrrrm. There's still a sense of unease from her.]
You've met monsters in your world? What were they like?
[If they have more experience with them, maybe they really do know better...]
no subject
They're really nice. All of my family now are monsters, if... if they're okay with that. They might seem scary but um, if you be nice to them and try to make friends with them, they're not so bad.
[At least in Frisk's experience.]
no subject
Your family members are monsters? But how...?
[She. She might not actually be used to the idea of monsters actually being intelligent.]
no subject
I fell into the Underground where they were.
[... hm. Yeah. That'll do for now.]
no subject
All the monsters where you're from are underground?
no subject
There was a barrier keeping them trapped there. But it's gone now.
[And that is definitely striding towards "you need a level 4 in friendship to unlock my tragic backstory" places.]
(no subject)
C
no subject
That would be awesome!
[Anime may be a cartoon back home but who knows? This is another world, anything is possible.]
And we can stay home too, we can make popcorn and eat lots of snacks and stay up late and all sorts of stuff we're not supposed to do!
[... this may be getting out of hand.]
no subject
F-Frisk, do you like butter or cheese on your popcorn? L-like, would you turn your nose up if someone put both on there? ...A ton of both?
no subject
I've only had butter before, but cheese sounds like it'd be great too. A ton of it!
no subject
no subject
Human food's really different from monster food, but um... the same too? [They remembered hearing about it once, about how monsters didn't really need bathrooms and... something to do with turning to energy? They didn't really get it and don't know how to explain it.]
But hamburgers don't go on popcorn.
F
But it's also cold and they are also small. He transforms into his EX form because it's easier to run up to them that way and pick them up. Which is what he does and has them on his shoulders a la piggy back style.]
Sorry for my absolutely RUDE introduction, dear, but as beautiful as you're doing out here it's freezing! Let's get you somewhere warm.
no subject
And almost completely on instinct they lift their hand up to point dramatically in front of the two of them (+50 drama) and let out a shout (make that 100)]
Onward!
no subject
[He plays thrilling music to go with their running, as if it's them against time itself! The drama intensifies.]
no subject
At one point, Frisk chances a glance behind the both of them... and spots their travel companion.]
Uh oh.
