TEST DRIVE: JANUARY

— TEST DRIVE: JANUARY —

Welcome to [community profile] empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

  • Date reminders. Reserves open Friday, December 25th and Applications (Canon | OC) open Friday, January 1st.

  • OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are currently allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.

  • Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.

  • Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.

  • Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.

  • First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!

PROMPTS

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...

• Prompt D: A new card game is sweeping through the streets of Verens: "Magica Ex Arehtei." Players take on the role of an Otherworlder and form battle decks out of minions, monsters, dunamis, and even the Arehtei themselves. It’s insanely complicated in its details, but this hasn’t stopped a seller from handing you a starter deck and all but pushing you into a chair to face an opponent… who may have just been conscripted themselves.

• Prompt E: After a long period of quiet (something about ‘emotional and physical harm to Empatheias’ and ‘manufacturing plush weapons without a Class E(X) license’), toy manufacturers have flooded merchant stalls and storefronts with a new offering, the hyper-cute stuffed Thras. No negative emotions, they promise! Plush Thras is so full of bravery, he’ll inspire anyone who holds him to new heights of courage and valor!

Naturally, magiscience has gone too far, and picking up the doll instills you with vigor, energy, and fearlessness past the point of recklessness.

• Prompt F: Thundersnow! A phenomenon in which a snowstorm is accompanied by lightning and thunder, and not a terribly uncommon one in Empatheias. But today’s thundersnow is more like an apocablizzard -- lighting lashes through the sky and lances down to catch buildings and trees with its fury, all hidden behind whirling sheets of billowing snowflakes that have blanketed the city in a foot of snow with no sign of stopping.

The outside is cold, windy, miserable, and potentially dangerous. Are you trapped in a building you didn’t expect to be in? Or perhaps you’ve joined up with an emergency emotion squad, trying to impose calm or cheer on the raging storm?

• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include lumps of coal or moose.

For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!

[The sight of a large bull moose charging through the streets was enough to draw Enoch's attention long before the woman's voice reached his ears. This place could be extremely strange, and while his fellow otherworlders more or less got a free pass on all of that? Somehow, things like this still felt oddly surreal after a year of some of the most random things.

But he is nothing if not a good samaritan. The large stranger lunges at a stack of crates, shouldering them with far more force than muscle can account for. They topple and fall into the now quite frightened Bullwinkle's path, forcing him to turn around.]

There! [he calls back to Lucy.] Try blocking it in before it passes you!

[They can calm him once he's contained, but he doubts even all the love he can generate would put it at ease in this state.]

Ah! Thanks!

[ Oddly surreal things tended to be the title of Lucy's life! And... Oh god she's gonna get trampled. At least that's the first thing that comes to mind when Bullwinkle is forced to skid to a stop and check his path, tromping in a panicked route back towards Lucy. Good thing about Enoch helping out is that not only did he keep the moose from getting further, but he gave Lucy time to call on a little extra help. She unhooked a key from its keyring, summoning forth a spirit to her aid. ]

Open, Gate of the Bull! Taurus~!

[ Seconds afterward, the shape of a tall, bull-man with a double sided axe appeared beside Lucy - though to her relief, before he could actually SAY anything and horribly embarrass her in front of this helpful stranger, he realized the situation and blocked the moose (poor thing nearly had a heart attack when he appeared in front of him) from getting away the other way - between the three, they had the moose trapped in pretty well. ]

[Thankfully, too, he's seen summonings before - not quite like this, but certainly close. It means he can stay on task without getting distracted.]

All right, well done! Let's try sending it positive emotions to calm it now that it can't flee.

[And now that he can approach, he does, his sweater vanishing in shreds to make way for asymmetrical white armor, all rounded edges and wing motifs, that appears on his body gradually in a soft white light.

It's hard to focus on another emotion in his current state, though, even one he's been able to reliably generate on command otherwise - his attempt fails horribly, he can't even bring himself to a state of calm, and his agitation isn't helping Bullwinkle one bit. Realizing this, he backs off far enough he won't get himself gored. He's got his armor to protect him, but if he's tossed aside it could mean a new escape route for the moose.]

Ah...I don't suppose either of you would do much better? I might need a moment...

[ The way he changes his sweater to armor was kind of like Erza's Requip magic - though she didn't think it was -quite- the same. The suggestion to send positive emotions was... well she wasn't sure how good she was at that. But she was at least in a better state than he was, and Taurus... was NO candidate for that kind of thing. ]

I'll give it a try.

[ She .. supposed it was the same as trying to calm any frightened animal down, as she held out a hand to the moose and tried thinking positive, good and calming things at it. ]

Easy boy - we're not going to hurt you, nice...um... moose...!

[The rush of battle doesn't leave him immediately, and that's the exact sort of mindset he'd shifted gears to when presented with such a tightly-timed task, for better or worse.

He watches Lucy approach the moose a moment while he takes deep breaths, slowly, practiced. Like he has before, he wills himself down from the adrenaline high, not enough to give him any emotion drops for Sosyne, but certainly enough that he can focus on how scared this poor animal is, how much he wants it to calm down. He leaves little glimmers of red-gold in his path that ripple and vanish as he approaches again, sending his sympathetic love to the animal.]

It's all right...it's all right.

[His tone no less gentle, not looking away from Bullwinkle, he addresses Lucy.]

Is he yours?
celestial_wizard: (TMI! How about NO?)

[personal profile] celestial_wizard 2015-12-29 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Lucy laughed as the moose calmed down significantly between the two of them. She glanced at Taurus with a smile. ]

Thanks, you can go back now. I don't think he's going to bolt anymore.

[ When her friend desummoned himself, she let out a sigh, turning back to the moose and reaching out cautiously to pat its nose. Awww. ]

Mine? Oh no no, definitely not. He got spooked and bolted from his owner though, and they couldn't find him so they put in a job request. I guess he helps pull their cart or something.

[ Resting a hand on the becalmed moose's forehead, she glanced at the other blonde. ]

I'm Lucy - thanks for the help.

I'm Enoch, and it was no trouble at all. A pleasure to meet you.

[He reaches up to pet Bullwinkle's neck, like he would a horse. What a strange animal, but he supposes it would be able to pull a cart like anything its size.]

I was in a position to help, so it would be wrong of me not to. One person couldn't catch a runaway animal so easily, after all. I've seen it, myself.

[It's why there are dogs and people working in pairs or larger groups. ...As well as other reasons, but the easiest way to lose an animal is for it to run off with only one person to chase it.]
celestial_wizard: (It's coz I'm awesome)

[personal profile] celestial_wizard 2015-12-30 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
[ Lucy laughed sheepishly. ]

Yeah, and if I had stopped to call Taurus on my own, he would have gotten away easily. Still.. [ She eyed the moose in some surprise. ]

You don't see too many mooses...um...moose... ... [ Nope, even though it's grammatically correct it sounded wrong still. ]

around here. I wonder where that merchant even found him.

Indeed, I've never seen anything quite like him before. He looks like a deer and an ox had a child.

...No offense, they're both fine animals. [he adds to the moose who most definitely couldn't understand. This, of course, ignores the fact that moose and deer are in the same family, but such classification hadn't come about yet in Enoch's time.]

But I take it you have seen one before?

Mm, well, not up close like this, but I've seen them in some of the books I've read. Moose - [ God that still sounds weird to her ears. ] aren't native to the country I'm from.
warriorscribe: (Tell me more)

Nor mine, it seems. [He laughs good-naturedly, giving Bullwinkle a pat on the neck. Now how to lead him without a rope...]

With fur so thick, I'm supposing they must be native to northern climates- [a beat.] Assuming you are from Earth, that is. I've heard it's colder in northern regions.
