TEST DRIVE MEME: JULY
Welcome to
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
- Date reminders. Reserves open Friday, July 18th and Applications open Friday, July 25th. Game will begin Friday, August 1st.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: Create any scenario that could cause your character to display some kind of emotion, be it big or small, and write out how it changes the immediate area. Are there literal sparkles everywhere because they're so happy? Or is the ground starting to twist and warp due to their anger or frustration? Things exploding? Rain clouds? Since this is a test drive, don't worry about any limitations on effects—just write whatever comes to mind!
• Prompt B: The following are generic task board prompts that characters could have taken up as a job.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes…
• Prompt D: With the influx of people suddenly appearing, the locals are a bit on edge. So rather than having your character’s emotions affecting the environment, someone else's is affecting them! Maybe they were just passing by and someone had an emotional outbreak of sorts. Now they have to figure out how to deal with the aftermath—or will their own emotions make it worse? Needless to say, NPC godmodding granted 100%.
• Prompt E: Make your own! It can even involve booze and/or cats.
• Prompt B: The following are generic task board prompts that characters could have taken up as a job.
- You have to collect X number of materials. Find a partner to make it easier!
- There's a hostile creature attacking some of the neighboring farms. If you got a weapon, they could definitely use your help!
- How about helping around the town? Delivering something, helping patch up a sign, cleaning out some of those rusted gears—the locals would definitely warm up to everyone.
- Make up your own task/quest!
For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!

Still, there are things he'd like to verify first. ]
If they're asking for two people, then the boar is likely either remarkably clever for a boar or is very strong. Either way, I'm interested - but first, what kind of combat are you accustomed to? What weapon or weapons do you wield?
[ If this man is another mage that might not work so well for teamwork, after all... ]
no subject
I use a mix of the sword and handgun, so I can adapt to either close or ranged combat.
no subject
Excellent. I specialize in magic - both for attack and healing, primarily at range. [ Though not exclusively. It does not pay to be too picky about distances on a battlefield... ] We should, in theory, compliment each other well.
My name is Soren. [ There's a degree of expectance in his thoughts there, the question 'what is yours?' floating in his thoughts, even if he doesn't purposefully transmit it. ]
no subject
I'm Alvin. I'm used to working with people who use spirit artes—magic—so I definitely think we should work well.
Do you need time to prepare?
no subject
No. I have everything I need already. Where would you prefer to meet?
no subject
Do you know how to ride or should I see if we can hitch a ride with someone?
no subject
[ And true to his word, in twenty minutes he is waiting at the gate, spell book in his satchel and a healing staff strapped to his back. He also seems to be fairly prepared with some medicine and other supplies. There is nothing unessential among his things, anyway. ]
no subject
Hey, Soren.
[a staff, huh. so kind of like Elize? but wow that guy is prepared. all Alvin has is his sword strapped to his back, his gun hidden beneath his coat.]
It's about a half hour ride, so it shouldn't be too bad.
no subject
Anyway, he nods in acknowledgement. ]
Hello, Alvin.
No, it shouldn't, but we should probably leave now to make the most of the daylight.
[ He doubts the boar is nocturnal, after all. ]
no subject
[he hands Soren the reins to his horse before mounting the one he's using.]
Other than that, the farmers will fill us in.
no subject
but then... well.... getting on a horse is hard when you're short, but Soren manages somewhat clumsily. His frustration does take the form of some brand new dark, low hanging clouds - not quite thunderheads yet, but still. ]
no subject
You all right there?
no subject
[ The question makes him notice the clouds, and for a moment they get darker as his annoyance increases, before he takes a deep breath and attempts to calm himself. Sometimes he really dislikes this place. More than usual, anyway.
Either way, after a moment he figures he might as well offer a brief explanation. ]
I am not fond of riding horses.
[ Mainly because unless they're smaller, like the one Mist had ridden, he has difficulty getting on them. ]
no subject
Really? You should have said something—I could have prepared a wagon or something else instead.
no subject
Horses are best suited to our purpose. They offer better speed and maneuverability when ridden than when pulling a wagon.
no subject
[eh, oh well. he shrugs.]
Well if you're fine with it, then guess it's not a problem.
no subject
Mercenaries don't have the luxury of being too picky.
no subject
[riding down along the dusty trail~]
So what did you do back where you're from?
no subject
I was a tactician for a mercenary company. [ And eventually whole armies. ] Additionally, I am competent with both offensive spells and healing and therefor fought as well.
no subject
A tactician, huh? [—hah. there's a slightly amused look spreading across his face.] I'm starting to wonder if dark, black wearing tacticians can be found in all worlds. [congratulations, Soren, you just got compared to Wingul.]
But I know someone else who is a tactician—an older guy and different from the one I just alluded to. Maybe you two could talk sometime.
[
just going to assume Rowen exists in this timeline since he did thread further down la la la]no subject
Black cloth stains less easily than other colors. But is that so? ... Perhaps. Alternate perspectives on tactics can be of great value.
[ Well. Unless they're the sort of "tactics" that amount to let's just charge in recklessly and kill everything we can. ]
no subject
[a wry grin.]
I think you two would hit it off very well.
no subject
Perhaps you can introduce us after this.
no subject
And all the more reason to get this job done quickly.
no subject
[ Alvin is the best friendship matchmaker, clearly. Or something. ]
. . . Do you know anything else about our target beyond what the announcement on the board said?
