TEST DRIVE MEME: JULY
Welcome to
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
- Date reminders. Reserves open Friday, July 18th and Applications open Friday, July 25th. Game will begin Friday, August 1st.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: Create any scenario that could cause your character to display some kind of emotion, be it big or small, and write out how it changes the immediate area. Are there literal sparkles everywhere because they're so happy? Or is the ground starting to twist and warp due to their anger or frustration? Things exploding? Rain clouds? Since this is a test drive, don't worry about any limitations on effects—just write whatever comes to mind!
• Prompt B: The following are generic task board prompts that characters could have taken up as a job.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes…
• Prompt D: With the influx of people suddenly appearing, the locals are a bit on edge. So rather than having your character’s emotions affecting the environment, someone else's is affecting them! Maybe they were just passing by and someone had an emotional outbreak of sorts. Now they have to figure out how to deal with the aftermath—or will their own emotions make it worse? Needless to say, NPC godmodding granted 100%.
• Prompt E: Make your own! It can even involve booze and/or cats.
• Prompt B: The following are generic task board prompts that characters could have taken up as a job.
- You have to collect X number of materials. Find a partner to make it easier!
- There's a hostile creature attacking some of the neighboring farms. If you got a weapon, they could definitely use your help!
- How about helping around the town? Delivering something, helping patch up a sign, cleaning out some of those rusted gears—the locals would definitely warm up to everyone.
- Make up your own task/quest!
For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
zuko | avatar: the last airbender
[ It all started as an attempt to practice his firebending-- nothing more. This was his first practice since arriving here, to be exact, and he had made sure to find a small secluded area away from the main street and any buildings. Everything had been fine and dandy for the first fifteen minutes or so. It was reassuring to know that his bending abilities were still in working order.
At the first sign of frustration, however, his practice time had quickly deteriorated. To his credit, this was a difficult move he was attempting to perfect, a series of short small bursts of flame that he should be able to sustain for more than five seconds. His stamina is having some trouble, and with each failed attempt, his mood is souring, brow furrowing in frustration.
Unfortunately for Zuko, this is manifesting in the form of big, plump stormclouds that follow him around wherever he might move, pouring cold rain on top of him and his little parade, extinguishing whatever he's managed to conjure up. After the third time this happens, he yells loudly, bringing both hands to his now-wet face and stomping off. ]
Will you just leave me alone?! GO AWAY!
[ That, of course, doesn't help, and he's treated to a fresh shower.
Wet cats have looked happier than he does. ]
oH MY GOD POOR ZUKO
Uh, you know, it's your emotions that are the problem with your magic. If you calm down, you should be fine...
[ She'd had a bit of uh, trouble at first, too. Mainly with accidentally dropping exploding anchors on a house, but that's a story for another time. ]
no subject
Don't you think I know that?! It's a lot easier said than done, you know.
[ Oh... normally he tries not to be so prickly towards strangers, now that he's not nearly as angry as he used to be, but he's a little caught up in the heat of the rainy moment.
He sighs. It's not the stranger's fault he can't keep his temper in check today. ]
Sorry.

[ Whoops? And, yes she totally WAS just watching--she enjoys that, okay. Plus this boy is cute. ]
no subject
Of course it is. I'm a firebender.
[ His eyes widen. ]
Uhh... how do you do something like that on accident?
no subject
[ She's a witch, so that's all new jargon to her. After a moment, she'll just... sort of laugh awkwardly. There might be little swirling bubbles overhead now. ]
... Uh... well, see, some of my magic is... uh... it's really useful if you're fighting someone out at sea, but... this place kind of makes my magic harder to work with a-and...
I mean I swear I didn't MEAN to, it just... happened!
[ She is a klutz. Some things do not change, no matter how much better she gets with her magic. ]

...except that this is probably the most fascinating display of magical whatever it is he's seen since he's been here. Kevin finds himself lingering to watch instead, his head tilting slowly to one side. He doesn't plan to start a conversation, mind, or do anything that might actually help. No, he's just going to stand here and contemplate the scene in front of him. It's not like he has anything else to do.]
no subject
Can I help you?
no subject
[...and that's all he says. Well, Zuko asked a specific question, and Kevin here is a bit of a smartass. He continues watching, curious. The sorts of problems that follow him around are generally things like shadows where there shouldn't be, and during his worst moments, random glass things cracking and shattering. Floating fireballs and personal rain clouds are new to him.]
no subject
Eventually with his yelling there, she simply can't hold it in anymore and must make an appearance.
To point and laugh, so to speak. ]
A poor baby mageling all caught up in the rain. A sight I never could have imagined being so delighted at, I must say.
no subject
That doesn't stop Zuko's mood from souring further. His scowl deepens and he lets out another groan of frustration. ]
A baby what?!
[ He grumbles again. ]
I'm glad this is so entertaining for you. Now would you mind lending me a hand?
[ How, exactly, she can help him, he has no idea. Just make it stoppppp. ]
i'm so mad my computer ate my tag and my copy clipboard
[ She does not care for the technicalities of other lands tbh. ]
Not a very good one, either. That, or you simply lack a significant amount of intelligence. Fire and water do not good friends make.
[ Not that she really thinks he doesn't know that. But she likes to rub it in. ]
Why should I help you and what is it you think I can do about it?
whelp.
She jumps at the loud shout, walking past Zuko's location at the time, and she whips her head around to him. She didn't even say anything to him!! Her face screws into a very angry sort of sass. )
All I did was walk here!
( Her own cloud forms. And it comes with lightning. )
no subject
Not you! [ He points up at his personal rainclouds. ] That! They won't stop following me, and I don't know how to make it stop!
[ He points to the one above her head now. ] Watch out!
no subject
What the -- hell was that?!
no subject
Want some help, hotman?
[ she hasn't ever actually been rained on, herself, but she assumes she could at least waterbend the rain away, if not the clouds themselves. ]
