Zephyras Flower Festival 2018 Details

ZEPHYRAS FLOWER FESTIVAL 2018

Hello, everybody! As the Flower Festival is one of the bigger events we have in the game, we have put together a brief outline for you guys so you have an idea of what to expect. Below are what you can look forward to for the event, as well as some other announcements we hope you can take note of. We've tried our best not to spoil anything for the festival, so most descriptions are simple and may not even be the same as last year's.

Please read through this post thoroughly, and for any questions, please don't hesitate to comment and ask them!

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Schedule: As mentioned in our April calendar, the event will run from the 13th of April until the 15th. These are also the IC dates for the event. As such, the festival lasts for three entire days.

  • Opt-In: Participation is voluntary. Characters do not have to participate in the Flower Festival should they not want to go! There will be prompts provided for characters who wish to stay in Verens.

  • Logging: Compared to the past Flower Festivals, this one will only have one log to avoid confusion. There will also be no sub-headers for the event, so please label your prompts when top-levelling so that responders won't be confused as to which prompt they will be tagging, et cetera. Additionally, we will have a captcha post up as soon as the initial log reaches 4,000 comments.

  • Location: The event will be held in Diateris, which is the same location as last year's Flower Festival. Diateris being Elios' land, it's only natural for an event dedicated to the Arehtei to be held there.

    TRADITIONS
Here are the traditions and main events to look forward to come the Flower Festival:
  • New Year: It literally is the new year for Empatheias as Ena marks the start of the year 818. Instead of being celebrated during the beginning of the month, it's usually celebrated towards the middle of the month, since the flowers bloom closer to that time.

  • Celebrations: Aside from the new year that is being celebrated, there are two other things people celebrate during this festival, hence it is why it is one of the biggest ones: the new season (Zephyras, or Spring) and love.

  • Matchmaking Origins: The festival is traditionally about matchmaking and getting couples together due to it being a celebration of love. Elios has not witnessed any of these recently, so he would like to be able to see some matchmaking happening this year. Hence some of the activities like a wedding and speed dating… wink wonk ;)

  • Flower King and Queen: The festival's traditional voting contest! The Flower King and Queen will be crowned on the first day of the festival. Votes IC-ly are done via the flying cards (as mentioned in the April Mod Announcement) and they last until the last hour before the announcements and coronation. We highly encourage new players to read through the Flower Festival announcement in this post, as well as check out the nominations should your characters want to vote for someone! After all, the flying cards are everywhere in Verens at the moment…!

  • Bee King and Queen: The Bee King and Queen are a small gestures from the natives to thank the Otherworlders for helping them heal the world. The Bee King and Queen are awarded randomly (OOCly) but the natives have a special criteria for them which they refuse to disclose… how mysterious!

  • Tribute to Elios: As the Arehtei of Love (and Hate), the festival has been dedicated to him since his initial appearance three years ago.

    PROMPT-RELATED
Below will be the headers and sub-headers for each prompt. As mentioned at the beginning of the post, we'll try our best not to spoil anything to make it more fun for everybody. If you have anything you'd like clarified, let us know!

    The Festival:
    • Tribute to Elios: There will be a stage where people can sing and dance for Elios, or offer presents like macaroni art or chocolates or flowers! There are also other ways to commemorate Elios in the other attractions of the festival, but the stage is here for everyone's use and enjoyment. This is also the first attraction people will see and participate in once they enter the grounds because they will have to go up on stage, introduce themselves, and announce to everyone one thing they love and one thing they hate.

    • Flower Viewing: This is your general mingling prompt! After all, the Flower Festival is called this because there are so many flowers already blooming, and they're all beautiful—and that's without the carefully designed arrangements and gardens! Petals will also be falling from the sky because Elios is happy for the new year and also because he's excited that there are people actually being in love and being happy and being gross. Some petals have also been affected by the love Elios gives off and ingesting them (such as partaking of the rose tea) may make a person a bit more touchy than usual.

    • Food and the Joust: What festival would this be without food? There will be all types of food served—from the local delicacies to more foreign and Otherworldly types such as mochi, nachos, churros, et cetera! There will also be a Marshmallow Joust, where people who are feeling competitive and enjoy playing with food can be competitive and play with food at the same time. It's basically Empatheias' version of the Peep Joust.

    • Music and Dance: What kind of festival would this be without any music? There are bands that perform throughout the days of the event, with genres ranging from smooth jazz to bossanova to blues to big band. They definitely are setting the mood to something more romantic with the light type of music that they're performing. Additionally, for those who wish to dance, a dance floor is even provided! One of the events in the festival include a Karaoke Contest and a ribbon dance—careful not to actually tie your partner up, though!

    • The Royals: As mentioned in the Traditions portion of this announcement, there will be an awarding of the Flower King and Queen, as well as the Bee King and Queen. The Royals prompt will be the specific prompt for the announcement, awarding, coronation, and general spectating of the Kings and Queens.

    Games and Activities:
    • Flower Chase: Your IC version of the Hearts Meme. Look forward to it!

    • Speed Dating: This should be self-explanatory! ♥

    • Carnival Games: There are fun gaming booths set up around the festival grounds for those who don't want to dance and for those tired of mingling and want to win some prizes. Carnival game booths such as a fish catching booth, a free throw game, ring toss, and some others are provided. Of course, prizes like Elios plush toys and some more useful items like hair brushes or pots and pans are can be won, too. What a weird selection of prizes...

    • Cake Feeding Contest: Back due to popular demand (by the people of Verens, anyway) is the cake feeding contest from two years ago! A generous spread of cakes of all sorts—chocolate, strawberry, chocolate mousse, ice cream, black forest, vanilla, or anything else you can think of—will be found available at the contest. The catch is that characters cannot eat these cakes on their own. They will have to be fed by a partner, and at the same time, they will have to feed their partner cake as well! There's a reward by the end of the contest, and there might even be food fights started… Oh no.

    Special Attractions:
    • Garden Maze: A garden maze! This should be self-explanatory. Like last year's, it's a special kind of maze, though, because you can't just easily find your way out by following a certain path. You may even need someone's assistance in order to leave the maze… With flowers all over the garden, though, and Elios' love being sprinkled in the air, it should be easy to work with another person. Good luck, intrepid explorer!

    • High Tea: Much like last year's, there will be an area for fancy tea, heart-shaped biscuits, and actual dishes that can't be found in the festival grounds. It seems that the organisers have placed the tea area too close to the Garden Maze this year. Careful not to smell too much of the flowers! Or maybe you should smell too much of the flowers.

    • "Hate Arena" (actual name pending): Velvet ([personal profile] oligomania) and Rokurou ([personal profile] rokubro)'s space for people to also express their hatred to possible balance out all the love that's going to happen. It will be found in the outskirts of the festival grounds, possibly closer to an unreclaimed area of Diateris is just in case damage to the grounds will be caused. The "Hate Arena" will have "emotion driven" dummies where dummies will move and act in reaction to the emotions of the fighter or either somebody else who's assigned to assist the person venting their frustrations. People can also spar in the Hate Arena if they brought their weapons with them, or if they want to spar with just Dunamis, that should be fine, too! And for the less combative characters and for the children, a balloon popping game.

    • Wedding Booth: Weddings aren't needed to commemorate love, but Elios specifically requested from the organisers that he would like to witness people get married this year. As such, there's a wedding booth that can be found in the festival grounds for those who just want to have fun and have their own real-but-not-wedding. And just because the organisers are sure that people won't actually want to try their hands at their booth, they've decided it upon themselves to handcuff people together every hour or so just to appease Elios' demands.

    • Hot Air Balloons: A new attraction in this year's festival are hot air balloon rides that will go around the festival grounds and then some. Characters will be able to see Diateris from a bird's eye view.

    Back in Verens:
    • In Bloom: It might be a relief that the flying cards that glitterbomb people just so nominations can be made for the Flower King and Queen are gone, but the Flower Festival sure takes love to a different level. Flowers are everywhere, seeing as the flowers used for the festival grew in Verens, but these flowers, to celebrate the new year follow people around in each foot step, in each touch, etc. Petals might show up whenever they touch something, or an actual flower might just sprout from the ground when they take a step forward!

    • The New Year: For those who won't be visiting Diateris, there are still celebrations being held in Verens. One of them includes the fireworks display which will be held every night at 7 PM. Come to the Merchant's Square to watch the beautiful fireworks!

    • Kites of Destiny: That isn't to say there aren't elements of matchmaking in Verens as well—organizers will encourage any love seekers to take a hold of one of their colorful, Zephyras-themed kites to fly. Like most objects in Verens, though, they're imbued with special emotions that supposedly help the kites "attract" the kites of people who are compatible to the flyer. Whether they always work accurately, well… we'll see. Go get tangled up together!

    THE AREHTEI
Some Arehtei will be present during the event, and characters are even free to speak with them! Arehtei in attendance will be Elios, Thras, and Aiada. If you'd like for your character(s) to interact with Elios and Thras, please look forward to their top-levels in the log!

Aiada, on the other hand, will be tagging out, but will take on a maximum of 3 characters to tag into her top-level. As such, we'll be having a lottery to see who these three characters will be! Please follow the form below.

If you guys have any questions or concerns regarding any of the above, please don’t hesitate to comment here!
