Plot and CR With Me: November
Welcome to Empatheias' plotting and CR meme! Please fill out the form below with all of the necessary information. Then go forth and reply to others, plot, make friends, have shenanigans!
The Plot and CR meme will be posted on the first of each month, and will be posted once the intro posts have been posted, and again during the mid-month announcement. We highly encourage everyone to check the post from time to time, even if a week has passed. You never know what kind of opportunities you could be missing!
• Feel free to use the "Open Mingling Announcements" and "Task Board Recruitment" top levels for better focused organisation. Note: Any large scale group plots should still be posted to the OOC community proper.
• For more general plotting and to talk about CR you wish to build, create your own top level following the format below. Put your character's name in the subject line, or your name in the subject line if you have more than one character.

Ickis | Aaahh!!! Real Monsters!

Character Name: Ickis
Canon: Aaahh!!! Real Monsters!
Brief Personality: Ickis is a nervous wreck. He’s neurotic, frantic, and generally moody. He’s pessimistic and paranoid, but also defensive and easy to rile up. When he’s not wracked by anxiety and insecurity, though, Ickis is a cocky, bratty little show-off. He always has a snide remark and is breaking rules, whether it’s intentional or not. He’s basically driven by fear vs. bravery. He’s lazy, greedy and indulgent, and will do anything to get out of hard work. But when he applies himself, he’s actually pretty talented; his scares are either absolutely terrifying, or complete flops. Despite all this, he’s still generally friendly and fun-loving, softhearted and open-minded. His interests include garbage, scaring humans, sports, music videos, and lava lamps.
Appearance: Ickis is weird, okay? He stands about knee-high on the average person, not much larger than a small dog. He looks like some kind of mutant, gnarly, maroon-colored bunny rabbit? Kinda ugly-cute? He has large floppy ears, big curly feet, gaping yellow eyes, and a wide mouth full of teeth. He’s pretty unassuming, as far as monsters go, if not downright cute. Buuut, he can also grow to terrifying proportions, looming over unsuspecting humans to scare them out of their skin. So there’s that.
His voice is really dynamic and switches pitch pretty dramatically. He has a hoarse, nasally voice, a soft New Jersey accent, but often dips into a deep, smooth bravado for emphasis. He also has a habitual, nasally, nervous laugh. He honestly sounds a little bit like Fran Drescher, if she were a young monster bro with an anxiety disorder.
Slice of Life or ADVENTURE: Ickis will be somewhere between the two! He’s not brave enough to head out on expeditions on his own, but he’s prone to adventures anyway, somehow, even if it’s by accident. For now he’ll be setting up his life here, just adjusting to living with humans. He will still be going around town scaring random people by night, though, which is maybe more on the adventure side!
Current Activities/Developments: I’ve recently made a catch-all entry. Ickis has found a job with pest control eating bugs all over the city. It’s pretty great. He’s also found a rundown apartment, and will be collecting weird garbage around town to decorate — broken appliances, old suitcases, milk crates — like literally anything. He may need help with carrying some things home! He’s also struck up a deal with Hizumi eating all the garbage at the Feline Nice Cat Café. A good deal. Beyond that, just up to his usual scaring, sneaking into unsuspecting citizens’ houses at night, just to give them a good spook.
Future Developments: I’m looking forward to Ickis exploring human culture more, living amongst them now; he’s always had an unusual fascination with human things, like music and TV, so it will be fun to kind of probe at cultural differences and monster biases against humans. I’d like to get him involved with some monster hunters at some point too; he’s been terrified about potentially being hunted ever since he learned about the tasks. Of course, feel free to contact me to arrange scares, successful or not. Whether he’s scaring you or you’re scaring him, as long as someone’s being scared, that’s what I’m interested in, lol.
Shipping/Romance: Please no lmao… But on the other hand, Ickis once fell in love with a wooden hand puppet that looked like an angry old woman, and he was totally head over heels. So who knows what kind of weird shit could happen. Oy…
Seeking: Friendship, people to chill with, bicker with, and play around with. Bro seeking other bros. Most important, always looking to scare people, even if they end up scaring him instead. Coward seeking other cowards. If you have an especially scary character who’d have fun tormenting a little monster, that is also probs welcome. Bully him.
Offering: Ickis is a great conversation partner if you love to whine and make sarcastic banter. He’s the neurotic nebbish next door, so if you need someone to commiserate with late at night, he’s your monster — misery loves company, right? He’s actually a pretty loyal, supportive friend, though; he cheers people up when they’re blue, and tries to help those in need — as long as it’s no real danger to him, of course. He’s playful and pretty good at sports (just nasty versions played in the sewers, y’know), and even has some experience babysitting (if you’d trust a monster to care for your child, that is, wtf). He can also help you clean by eating all your trash. He can be useful and scary!
Not Interested In/Avoiding: I’d like to avoid violence, generally speaking. Ickis’s scares are never harmful, so I’d rather not get him killed or seriously injured by anyone reacting. Roughed up a little is fine, though (Ryuji threw stuff at him, for example). Other than that, sky’s the limit.

Apologies for leaving that first thread for so long -- it's been a Week at work and I've been trying to think of how to get Asch to follow Ickis; unfortunately I don't think he will, so I'll. Wrap that one up when I'm able to tag.
I've been sidling up to tagging into Ickis' log, but I'm not sure would be the best way; either he attempts to scare Asch at his own house, in which case Asch will be marginally less scary, or Asch can have been hired for some temp work to catch the pest that's been leaping out of toilets. I feel like Asch constantly accidentally terrorising Ickis back might get in the way of developing a relationship, but the running theme sounds fun; so I figured I'd check to see what strikes your fancy most.
Other than that, you've mentioned in Ickis enjoys music! Well, as it happens, Asch is kinda-sorta a mortal avatar of his world's demigod of sound. If it's musical things you're after, Asch will prrrobably have something to say.
Otherwise, I would love for facetwin shenanigans, given both the interactions Ickis has had and the fact Luke and Asch have accidentally mirrored each other a bit.

I'm glad this nostalgia kick is hitting the mark so far, haha! I also liked Aaahh!!! Real Monsters! when I was a kid, but it was kinda on the outskirts of memory... Friends and I randomly turned on old cartoons we hadn't seen since we were children, at stupid o'clock stonged one night lol (the only way for nostalgic cartoon throwbacks, naturally), and we all just fell in love. Such a bizarre, mature, funny show, highly recommend looking back into it. This neurotic lil mess just stole my heart — kindred spirits or something, lol... I'm glad a good few people are recognizing and remembering him, though!
I've never played any of the Tales games, but have seen so many of their characters role-played throughout the years, and all the characters seem so cool and engaging! I'm definitely enjoying the threads with Luke and Asch more than anything haha, I'm really excited to continue relationships with them both! And def down for facetwin mix-ups somehow lol.
As for the post, whatever tickles your fancy, for real! We could easily kind of incorporate both ideas you had into the same thread, I think... It'd probs be really funny to have a recurring joke of Asch accidentally terrifying and hunting Ickis, but the apparent fact that Asch isn't trying to capture him or kill him and it's just a mistake will be solace enough to keep it lighthearted. It could just be a running gag, since Ickis was mildly afraid of him anyway from the get go. He's not really accustomed to being friends with humans and it's gonna take a while until he feels comfortable with anyone here anyway, so I don't think the mutual scaring will be much of a roadblock in their relationship, cuz Ickis already naturally has roadblocks up as it is. But he has already more or less comfortably befriended Luke, it seems, so maybe there's something there with Asch by extension, who knows. We can play it out, but I love playing with Asch so I def won't let them be alienated haha. I'd love to keep it going! So feel free to tag with whatever scene you want :)
As for music... Monsters hate human music cuz it's too pretty. Monster music is horrible, jagged, off-tune, off-key, it's total cacophony. There's nothing smooth or refined about it. In school, opera is used as a torturous punishment in detention (which Ickis is well familiar with, lol), but he still walks out singing with the opera songs stuck in his head. It's atypical and frowned upon and just sheerly confusing to other monsters why Ickis would like human music — it's so bad, it hurts monsters' ears, and it's nothing like the terrible noises most monsters love to dance to. But Ickis has been shown on multiple occasions to really jam out to punk rock, which is about as close as humans can get to noisy and wild music like monsters enjoy. There's also an entire episode centered around Ickis discovering the blues, where he learns to play harmonica and sing his sorrows. But even blues has that roughness, rawness, and pain in it. So as long as the music is sharp and noisy like those genres, Ickis will love it. But if Asch is a master of sound, well... It'll probs drive him up the walls, lol. So all that said, this sounds like something that should definitely happen between them, hahaha!

That's where I was at for ages with Tales games, because I tend not to get into new canons too easily. Then Luke-mun finally convinced me to give Symphonia a go, and next thing I know I'm falling down the Tales hole. XD
Alrighty! One mishmash of both coming right up. Luke is super easy to befriend, to be fair.
How does Ickis feel about protective cats.NGL these two arguing about music sounds like it could be glorious. Ickis might even be able to teach Asch some things about Earth music, because the blues might turn up right down his alley; his life has sucked a lot so having something that actually is capable of transmitting the suckitude might well be a changer. (Or he might hate it as useless whining, idek. This boy sometimes.) Either way I think he'd mostly object at off-key and off-tune, and even that he might be persuaded to see some value in

I've been thinking about tagging him with Sync, because snark bros seems like something that could entirely happen. Sync is...rather hard to scare, so Ickis isn't going to get anything done there, but misery and snarking? Sync's got that covered. And it'd be interesting to see how they react, y/n?
