— GAME OPENING: PART II —

All right, we have now posted the signal post indicating that everyone is able to make whatever post they want! [community profile] empatheias and [community profile] crystalnet have been opened to allow members to post. Also everyone has their character tags now. They may or may not have been forgotten in the grand opening hullabaloo, ah ha (many apologies if there was confusion about that!). If there are any mistakes or typos, let us know.

Everyone has arrived into Verens and escorted to their new homes. There is information about the setting in The Island entry, but we'll go ahead and give a little bit more information. For the record, trying to find images that fit this kind of style is hard and requires a bit of imagination. However the good news is, so long as you have the main elements and styles down, whatever you think of will probably work.

As another quick reminder, although the opening lasted 5 OOC days to 1 IC days, from here on out it's a 1 OOC:1 IC day ratio.

Classic fantasy meets steampunk
Instead of simply saying that town looks like either a classic, medieval fantasy town or a classic industrialized, steampunk city, we make it complicated by saying it's both. Add to the fact that buildings can twist and morph depending on the owner's mood, and you have a lot of different styles that come at play. There are places where the city looks something like this and then this and then there are nicer areas that look like this. And then you have the more bustling areas that are just a weird mesh between the two where nature meets industry. It is not cohesive at all. At probably tried to be at some point, but emotions just threw everything out of whack so they gave up.

The fashion is of similar mixture. As hinted by the researchers, it's mostly steampunk, but there are still many who prefer a bit less "punk." What is important to note is there is no sense of modern, 21st century technology or styles at all. Thus those from the more fantasy oriented worlds might feel more comfortable as opposed to others.

And as a reminder, this world uses "magitech" rather than pure magic or pure technology. A lot of it comes from the use of elemental cores, but some of it also comes from the emotions. The more "tech" part of is more mechanical with the use of gears, levers, and other simple systems. Electricity is not quite a thing just yet. Light switches are used, but they instead ignite fire elemental cores.

Housing
There is no set housing post or list. For the most part, the neighborhood block granted to them is a mish mash of small cottages and blocks of varying sized and shaped thing build structures not too dissimilar to the old European housing style. There is very little in terms of yards. You are free to envision and make up whatever the house or building will look like, even include some more character-specific touches since these buildings can alter and change depending on the residents.

"Powering" the house will not be made so clear so there will be some trial and error. Each house will have the sufficient amount of magitech energy to get the basics running, but it won't be until characters insert their amulet in the designated conduit(s) that it will be completely powered. These conduits are by the main door near the light switches. In addition, each house has a few elemental cores that everyone can play around with and use.

Roaming around.
Although they're being watched, the characters are free to explore. They can go through town and try to learn a few things. Some of the people will be less inclined to answer while others will be very curious and willing to help. Some may even give them some food for free (if you're a child, you're definitely in luck!). All of these "NPC" local interactions can be godmodded by you players.

The only thing to note is if the character wants to leave the city. They will have a guard assigned to them, but there's nothing stopping players from having the guard ditched, killed, fooled, etc. Of course just be aware of the IC consequences, especially if killing is involved.

Welcoming gift.
In addition to the freebies that some might get while talking to people, there is one particular thing that everyone will have delivered to them in the morning.

A basket of stuffed pastries with various fillings. Meat, vegetables, fruits, cheese—at least it's some breakfast food.

Oh, and they have other foods and water delivered to them for the evening as well, at least enough to get them by.

And that's about it. If you have any questions or concerns, let us know!
