TEST DRIVE: NOVEMBER

— TEST DRIVE: NOVEMBER —

Welcome to [community profile] empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

  • Date reminders. Reserves open Tuesday, October 25 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Tuesday, November 1st.

  • OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.

  • Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.

  • Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.

  • Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.

  • First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!

PROMPTS

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...

• Prompt D: The Boreas Harvest Festival is fast approaching, and the farmers are trying hard to work through the bleak weather conditions to get their crops in before they go bad from all the apathy. All hands on deck—but there may be too many unwanted hands roaming around.

  1. Scarecrows. The scarecrows that have been set up as a festive reminder of the time of year have unfortunately come under the influence of some errant strong emotions from the farm hands that work in the fields. Unfortunately that includes trying to ward off anyone who enters the fields with pitchforks and is one of them carrying a torch? Maybe if they can be convinced that you are trustworthy they will calm down.

  2. Invading rabbits. There are ton of rabbits ravaging the carrot patches. They're easily frightened, but some are more tenacious than others. Beware of the white rabbit with red eyes.

  3. Save the crops! Several batches are already starting to spoil! The only thing that can save them is dumping as much positive emotions into them. Joy of good food, hope for a bountiful meal, love of eating—whatever will work. Just be careful. Too much and those things might grow and explode…

• Prompt E: Aiada, the Arehtei of appreciation and jealousy, has sent a personal request for those who are interested. There is a small island just beneath Empatheias that she has been cultivating over the many centuries. She wishes to contribute to the Harvest Festival with some seeds and spores. However, the recent atmosphere has also reached down there, and now it's all a mess! Giant mushrooms replaced the trees and there's slime and mold everywhere. The cure? Aside from getting a lot of heavy duty cleaners and pushing it off, appreciation will go a long way to help.

  1. Goop brigade. Grab that bucket and shovel and clear the goop out! Just be careful not to have too much get on you—jealousy might take over.

  2. Appreciation balls. To help hasten the effort, Aiada has given several tubs filled with light, green orbs. Once channeled with enough appreciation, they can be used as mini-grenades to help explode and wash the area with more positive energy. Those caught in the blast won't be harmed. If anything, they'll just be very thankful.

  3. Watch the ledges. Careful, it's a fairly small island and the goop and slime has made things slick. If you fall… That's not a good way to go, let's just say that.

• Prompt F: Various parties are interested in the emotion shards scattered all over Thera. But this time around, the focus is on the medical laboratory as the equipment and potential research there is also of interest. For three days those who volunteer are sent back to try and gather as much as possible—but of course this won't be easy.

  1. Skeletal Scientists. The remains of the scientists who once worked in these rooms are still lurking, ready to protect their work. Fortunately they're relatively weak nerds, so not too difficult to dispatch. Just be careful.

  2. Flying equipment. The various medical equipment has also taken life, scalpels and needles flying everywhere and stethoscopes ready to strangle.

  3. Questionable liquid. Most of the easy shards have already been taken, leaving the more difficult to retrieve ones left. In particular they're found in strange, dark pink liquid. It's mostly harmless—except that upon contact intense waves of grief and suffering will course through. The longer the exposure, the worse it is. So hopefully a bucket full of it doesn't fall on you…

• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include feathers and/or confetti.

For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!

(he had seven years to be a bum, that's not a fair comparison.) Ahah... I actually used to have a pet rabbit once. That's probably why.

(he's like the bunny whisperer. except for the one trying to turn him into a meal at the moment. still there. chewing through apollo's only suit here. he'll only be concerned once he can start feeling something chew at the flesh part of his leg and not just the pants.

she raises a good point, though, causing him to stare thoughtfully out at the fields.)
The only thing I can think of is that we'd have to round them up a certain amount at a time and transport them there.

Really? You don’t strike me as someone who might have had a pet rabbit.

[Maybe a turtle or something. Or a goat. That’s neither here nor there though. Maya eyes the white rabbit gnawing on his leg and she bends down to grab it.]

At night when they’re sleeping, maybe we can come in and get them out of here with a net or some –

[She interrupts herself with a loud shriek when the rabbit turns on her instead, lunging at her with its teeth bared. It manages to latch itself on to her sleeve and hangs there much like it did with Apollo’s pant leg as she gently swings her arm about.]

[personal profile] justchords 2016-10-25 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm too loud and insensitive, Athena already said the same thing. (ALL YOU ASSISTANTS AND YOUR NARROW MINDED CULTURAL ASSUMPTIONS at least he's used to being the butt of everyone's jokes. he just accepts it now.

he eyes maya carefully as she reaches down for the rabbit, and he should probably advise against it. but she seems to have things well enough in hand at the moment.)
No way, not nets, those will just scare--

(--them much like that shriek just did. the bunny in his arms rockets out and bounds away, leaving apollo to deal with maya currently being this close to a rabbit's meal.) Ms. Fey! Uh... hold still!

(he's just-- can he just-- yeah he'll just try and shake that rabbit off of her sleeve now. is this a bad idea, most likely.)
spiritedafey: game, angry (031)

[personal profile] spiritedafey 2016-10-25 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[HEY!!! Team Ladder needs to stick together here - YOU TWO ARE ON THE SAME SIDE! Would you call this teamwork!?

Maya holds still and watches Apollo as he tries to shake the rabbit from her sleeve, but all it does is sway, holding on for dear life as it's teeth begin to tear through her clothes. What kind of rabid breed is this!?]

GET OFF!! This thing is going to give me rabies!

[Maya is shaking her own arm vigorously now, and with some work, they manage to get the rabbit off at the cost of her sleeves - it's okay, better that than her hand - but he doesn't run off like the sweet little brown one did.

No, this one sticks around and tries to make itself look bigger, and so Maya does the same thing, puffing her cheeks out and hunching her shoulders as she raises her arms over her head.]

I gave you the benefit of the doubt!

[Is she really having this argument with a rabbit right now?]
justchords: (YEAH I'VE SEEN YOUR FACE IN MY DREAMS TO)

im sorry for my shitpost but also im really not

[personal profile] justchords 2016-10-26 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
(a very dysfunctional form of teamwork that leaves a lot to be desired.

as is shown by him failing to get the rabbit off of maya's sleeves without ruining it. he gives it a few more yanks, hoping it'll just give up at some point. no such luck)
Ms. Fey, rabbits don't have rabies!

(he thinks. he's never heard of a case of a rabbit with rabies, but then again it's not an important fact at the moment. maya is about to have a duel with a very angry and very vicious little rabbit, both sides seemingly out for a fight. so apollo does what he does best.

he does something stupid. taking this time to step between maya and the rabbit, face to face with the little devil that's probably eyeing his other pants leg. he knows better than anyone how much rabbits freak out at loud sounds, so he takes in a deep breath before screaming at the top of his lungs.)
LEAVE MS. FEY ALONE!!!

(coupled with maya still trying to intimidate the little guy, the white rabbit bounds a few feet away, shocked by the sudden noise. it's still hanging around, just in case.)
spiritedafey: anime (018)

dont be sorry, i thought it was the actual tag loool

[personal profile] spiritedafey 2016-10-26 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[They'll work on it - there's plenty of time!

When Apollo shouts at the rabbit and he manages to scare it off to a few feet away from them, Maya can't help but stare at him, shocked. She's even somehow forgotten that there was a crazy rabbit eyeing them cautiously.]

Wow, Trucy wasn't lying when she said you had chords of steel...

[That was the first time she's ever heard it for herself and boy, colour her impressed!]

Her impressions don't do you... [A pause.] Justice.

[AHA AHA AHA gosh Maya cracks herself up]
justchords: (I AM LOAFUS. LOAFUS CRAMWELL)

i mean. i was tempted

[personal profile] justchords 2016-10-27 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
(why is he getting involved in this war again.

he straightens himself back up, giving an angry huff at the rabbit while crossing his arms. take that!! he dares it to try and attack maya again, he just dares it!!!)
Chords of Steel training is a must every morning! It's a good way to psych myself up for a trial!

(but the second her joke is out there, his hair visibly wilts, like a dying plant in need of something other than bad puns.) Aw, Ms. Fey, are you really going to steal my lines, too...
spiritedafey: fanart, happy (048)

i was even thinking of a response loool

[personal profile] spiritedafey 2016-10-27 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I’ll join you in your chords of steel training one day – I have to be able to protect myself against angry prosecutors and rabid bunnies!

[Not that there are any particularly angry prosecutors around these parts. Actually, the only prosecutor in Verens is far from it, and she would probably have to work extra hard just to tick off Klavier. It’s a real shame she never got to see him in action in court – all the times she could have, she was too busy with her training to cheer them on.

When Apollo’s horns grow limp, Maya eyes them sadly. Looks like it needs a little spritz of water.]

Is that yours? I’ll be sure to save that pun for you next time!

[Looks like the little brown bunny has returned and is sitting next to Apollo’s foot, staring up at him through its beady black eyes.]
justchords: (WITH THOSE SUPPLE YOUNG HIPS)

i promise you will have a chance to respond to apollo screaming like jake peralta

[personal profile] justchords 2016-10-31 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
You're more than welcome to! I usually get up around five for it. But um... I've found it's not very useful against prosecutors, unfortunately. (apollo doesn't really have the guts to subject klavier and nahyuta to his chords of steel, especially when those are probably the two prosecutors who haven't actually done anything wrong. well. maybe nahyuta, but there are extenuating circumstances behind his actions that apollo could forgive. if nahyuta apologizes, of course.

now he's just getting into the slightly more embarrassed side of things. man, this is gonna be fun to admit.)
Ah, s-sort. I usually make justice puns to prep myself for a cross examination or some--

(he's soon distracted by the bunny returning to his side, and he wastes no time in scooping the little guy back up to hold him, scratch his forehead with a smile. bunnies are just too pure.)
spiritedafey: game (039)

[personal profile] spiritedafey 2016-11-01 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Five!? [Maya sputters and chokes on her spit a little bit. She’s barely awake by eight, let alone five. Her training required her to be up at earlier hours of the day but now that it’s done (or… well, she can’t exactly finish it here) she’s planning on taking full advantage of the fact that she doesn’t have to be up with the sunrise.]

I bet I could make it work on prosecutors if I tried really hard! But if you’re using justice puns like that one to prepare yourself for trials, then you’re in bad shape!
justchords: (GET WRECKED FUCKERS)

[personal profile] justchords 2016-11-03 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! Sometimes I'll give myself a little longer, and maybe start around six. (it's okay, maya, he knows chords of steel are only for a select few, apollo being one of the few stupid enough to get up that early to scream for a while. maybe he'll do an afternoon edition for her at another time.)

No, no, I do way more encouraging ones, like... "time to bring down a little Justice!" Or "okay witness, here comes Justice!"

[personal profile] spiritedafey 2016-11-03 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maya blinks at him. Where in the world did he come up with these?]

No wonder Nick always said you had an unreliable streak.

[She's kidding, mostly. Maybe.]
justchords: (GODDAMMIT DIVA)

[personal profile] justchords 2016-11-04 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
(look at his last name, maya, do you honestly think a kid working to be a lawyer isn't going to make puns on his own last name.

justice.)
Mr. Wright has no place calling me unreliable, especially not after all this time!

(YOU'RE FUCKING WELCOME FOR GETTING YOUR GODDAMN BADGE BACK.)
spiritedafey: game (081)

[personal profile] spiritedafey 2016-11-04 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maya taps her chin, nodding in agreement. Apollo did have a point – bluffing your way to victory wasn’t exactly the most reliable way to lawyer, but if the shoe fits...]

That’s true. I guess the apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree.
justchords: (I AM LOAFUS. LOAFUS CRAMWELL)

[personal profile] justchords 2016-11-06 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
(he suddenly looks about a thousand times more exhausted, even surrounded by adorable bunnies who seem to love him, carrot hair or not. is this honestly what his reputation has become.) Oh come on, I'm reliable! I've taken on plenty of difficult cases and gotten my clients a not guilty verdict like they deserve!

(doesn't anyone have faith in him.)
