TEST DRIVE: NOVEMBER
Welcome to
empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:- Date reminders. Reserves open Tuesday, October 25 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Tuesday, November 1st.
- OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• Prompt D: The Boreas Harvest Festival is fast approaching, and the farmers are trying hard to work through the bleak weather conditions to get their crops in before they go bad from all the apathy. All hands on deck—but there may be too many unwanted hands roaming around.
• Prompt E: Aiada, the Arehtei of appreciation and jealousy, has sent a personal request for those who are interested. There is a small island just beneath Empatheias that she has been cultivating over the many centuries. She wishes to contribute to the Harvest Festival with some seeds and spores. However, the recent atmosphere has also reached down there, and now it's all a mess! Giant mushrooms replaced the trees and there's slime and mold everywhere. The cure? Aside from getting a lot of heavy duty cleaners and pushing it off, appreciation will go a long way to help.
• Prompt F: Various parties are interested in the emotion shards scattered all over Thera. But this time around, the focus is on the medical laboratory as the equipment and potential research there is also of interest. For three days those who volunteer are sent back to try and gather as much as possible—but of course this won't be easy.
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include feathers and/or confetti.

- Scarecrows. The scarecrows that have been set up as a festive reminder of the time of year have unfortunately come under the influence of some errant strong emotions from the farm hands that work in the fields. Unfortunately that includes trying to ward off anyone who enters the fields with pitchforks and is one of them carrying a torch? Maybe if they can be convinced that you are trustworthy they will calm down.
- Invading rabbits. There are ton of rabbits ravaging the carrot patches. They're easily frightened, but some are more tenacious than others. Beware of the white rabbit with red eyes.
- Save the crops! Several batches are already starting to spoil! The only thing that can save them is dumping as much positive emotions into them. Joy of good food, hope for a bountiful meal, love of eating—whatever will work. Just be careful. Too much and those things might grow and explode…
• Prompt E: Aiada, the Arehtei of appreciation and jealousy, has sent a personal request for those who are interested. - Goop brigade. Grab that bucket and shovel and clear the goop out! Just be careful not to have too much get on you—jealousy might take over.
- Appreciation balls. To help hasten the effort, Aiada has given several tubs filled with light, green orbs. Once channeled with enough appreciation, they can be used as mini-grenades to help explode and wash the area with more positive energy. Those caught in the blast won't be harmed. If anything, they'll just be very thankful.
- Watch the ledges. Careful, it's a fairly small island and the goop and slime has made things slick. If you fall… That's not a good way to go, let's just say that.
• Prompt F: Various parties are interested in the emotion shards scattered all over Thera. - Skeletal Scientists. The remains of the scientists who once worked in these rooms are still lurking, ready to protect their work. Fortunately they're relatively weak nerds, so not too difficult to dispatch. Just be careful.
- Flying equipment. The various medical equipment has also taken life, scalpels and needles flying everywhere and stethoscopes ready to strangle.
- Questionable liquid. Most of the easy shards have already been taken, leaving the more difficult to retrieve ones left. In particular they're found in strange, dark pink liquid. It's mostly harmless—except that upon contact intense waves of grief and suffering will course through. The longer the exposure, the worse it is. So hopefully a bucket full of it doesn't fall on you…
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include feathers and/or confetti.

Kara Danvers (Zor'El) | Supergirl
[Not the food! The minute she heard the crops were dying off, Kara is immediately out trying to help. Food is sacred, it shouldn't be sacrificed just because of bad emotions and so she's here to do her part to make sure that crops survive. She pushes her glasses up on her nose a little more securely as she moves through the set-up for the festival.
Often she gets stopped by one thing or another typically with something to say:]
Oh apples! I love caramel apples! Sometimes with nuts or pieces of chocolate too. There's so much you can do with them besides that like bobbing for apples or making a pie!
[Or:]
Corn on the cob! Yum! That's what I'm going to have with my Thanksgiving dinner this year.
[Or even:]
What's this? It looks interesting! I've never seen anything like it but I bet it's delicious!
[No matter what she says, there is genuine excitement exuding from Kara and pouring into the crops she stops to look at. It's enough to make the food look absolutely ripe again within seconds of her words.]
Prompt E2 - Kara
[Oh, she's got this. Kara has so much appreciation that half the time she doesn't know what to do with it all. Now she's pouring into the little grenades with enthusiasm - one for everyone who's ever been in her life and cared for her. Which is all well and good but when it comes to actually throwing the balls, she has more difficulty.
She has to make sure that she doesn't use too much strength and accidentally throw it off the island entirely. Not to mention that sometimes she steps in the slime and her foots slips beneath her which effectively messes with her aim. So it should comes as no surprise when Kara throws one of those little balls full of appreciation...
Directly at someone. By the time Kara looks up to see where it's landed after regaining her balance, it's already hit.
Her eyes widen as she looks down at the remains of her ball and the clean blast radius around it.]
Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! My foot slipped and I lost my grip on the ball! [She rushes over, hands out to make sure no physical damage was done.]
Are you okay?
Prompt G - Supergirl
[There isn't really a lot of trouble on the island, at least not since her arrival. No cries for help from people in danger, no robberies or evil bad guys that need fighting so Kara finds herself with way more free time than she ever did in National City. Even before she became Supergirl in the first place.
Yet she can't just stop being Supergirl either. There may still be ways that she can help others even if no one is running around robbing stores or speeding down streets careening towards innocent bystanders but Supergirl hopes she can help in other ways. So it's with a light heart that Kara dawns her cape and costume before taking to the skies in flight.
She flies low over the island city, keeping a sharp ear and eye out for any signs of trouble no matter how small they might be. Even if her speed is slow it easily picks up the moment she finds something she can possibly help with.
It's a soft landing she does when Supergirl's boots touch the ground again.]

lol not like she's really doing anything else, when she noticed a girl who seems to share the same love and enthusiasm for food that Maya does. Food definitely is sacred, blondie knows what's up! She'd been eavesdropping on Kara talking to herself about all the different types of crops, so once she reaches the apples that Maya has been tending to, she gets to her feet.]Have you ever tried cinnamon buns with apples in them!? My older sister made them all the time!
Alien cinnamon rolls are very precious, yes.
When Maya turns towards her, Kara gives the girl her attention.]
I haven't! They sound delicious though. Maybe if we fix these apples up right we can make some.

Usually, there's someone else to do it for me. I try not to make it too difficult on them but [between the blood and mud of the battlefield] sometimes it can't be helped, and I must do my own here.

...It's a novel idea. I presume there's a rig that would cause the water to fall...? [That sounds remarkably pleasant. And saves you the trouble of having to pour water over your head to rinse!] I might need to find one for myself.

[He shakes his head way too quickly for anyone else to catch except probably her and gives a mild shrug with a cheeky smile to match. This isn't the most bizarre situation he's found himself in, truth be told.]
Would you believe wrangling chickens that can shoot out exploding eggs containing shiny confetti? [He ptthps a couple of small feathers and glittering confetti off his lips.] Please say you do.

Flash! [Considering how loud she intended to be, Kara goes for using his hero name rather than his actual name. He is dressed as the Flash, after all.
Either way she is absolutely happy to see a familiar face on this world, especially a friend. Sorry she can't help but laugh at his explanation.]
Well I was thinking maybe you'd gotten into a fight with a Vegas showgirl but I can believe chickens that shoot confetti-filled eggs. [Barry is talking to the girl from another world, after all.] Do you need help wrangling these alien chickens?

Yeah, that'd be great. They freak if they see quick movements and pop those out. [Big emphasis on if there.] I'm thinking maybe distraction.

Right, distraction! I'll distract and you round them up. [Seems only fair to put herself in the line of fire considering he's already covered in glitter. Plus Barry's been dealing with them so he knows what to expect.

[He takes the most boring, casual, ETERNAL backwards walk behind the fretful flock. As soon as he can Barry's darting in to carry them back to their cages. Easy peasy.

[The red blur becomes a lanky nerd once more when one hen turns at just the right time. THE STAREDOWN, god.]

[This is all it takes to thwart Central City's superhero.]

A nod of her head in understanding about the 'no super speed' part. Right! She can do this! While Barry backs away, Kara steps up and instantly catches the attention of most of the flock.] Hey chickens! Over here!
[Leaning over she distracts them with her ice breath, a light version so as to not freeze them completely, causing the hens to group together for warmth. They aren't completely calm but aren't downright panicking either.
They cluck nervously and take notice when their numbers start to disappear as Barry takes care of them.
And then he stops. Calls for her and Kara looks over to see him in the most epic staredown that's probably ever happen between a chicken and a metahuman.]
Come on, Flash. It's one chicken. [She's trying AND FAILING SPECTACULARLY to not laugh!
Still, Supergirl to the rescue! Kara sees the next move before it really becomes visible to the regular naked eye and zooms over, an arm wrapping around Barry's shoulders to drag him down while the other one pulls up her cape to act as a shield. The egg explodes once it connects and now her cape (and hair) is covered in the shiny confetti.]

[Thank the speed force for her using the cape to hide them from being looked at. He's down so easily, partially her strength but also because no one wants glittery stuff in their eyes.]
My hero. [His smile is all teeth as he waits out the chicken flurry with her.] Using your breath like that? Pretty cool.
[He has a million of them. Hopefully they'll settle down soon so she doesn't have to endure more.]

[Teasing him as they wait for the confetti bomb to run its course. Though it might take a minute seeing as how there's another one headed in their direction. Kara had only used a small portion of her strength to drag Barry down, not wanting to injure him on accident in the process.]
Hey, even heroes need a hero every once in a while. [Oh Rao. This is one of the reasons why Barry is her favorite metahuman.] Sometimes it really blows.

[He can't stop the small laugh that follows. This kind of dork banter is exactly what he's been needing since showing up in Verens. She's in charge of the flag start for the race, so as soon as her cape goes up Barry's just a Flash once more.
He's zipping around Kara as much she is around him. Poor hens don't stand a chance. It may be handful of seconds for the poultry but catching the egg from one of the last stragglers feels like a long time.
As as embarrassing since Supergirl can see it in real time. Good news is that's the only mishap!]
That's certainly a new game of chicken I've never played before. [He vibrates and steps out of a Barry Allen shape made entirely of feathers and confetti, which falls apart soon after.] I'm batting a hendred, how about you?

Unlike the last time they had a race, she doesn't bother touching the ground and instead flies just above the heads of the chickens and simply reaches down to snatch them up. It means Kara has a good view of Barry getting egged and snorts her laughter.

Come on, we used to play this all the time back on Krypton! Or well a variation of it anyway! [Lies! She's telling lies. Which is 1000% obvious by the cheeky grin on her face.] Don't start crowing yet, Flash. I've got a hundred and nine.
