Welcome to empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

• Date reminders. Reserves open Tuesday, October 25 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Tuesday, November 1st.
  
  
• OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
  
  
• Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
  
  
• Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
  
  
• Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
  
  
• First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!


PROMPTS

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...

• Prompt D: The Boreas Harvest Festival is fast approaching, and the farmers are trying hard to work through the bleak weather conditions to get their crops in before they go bad from all the apathy. All hands on deck—but there may be too many unwanted hands roaming around.

1. Scarecrows. The scarecrows that have been set up as a festive reminder of the time of year have unfortunately come under the influence of some errant strong emotions from the farm hands that work in the fields. Unfortunately that includes trying to ward off anyone who enters the fields with pitchforks and is one of them carrying a torch? Maybe if they can be convinced that you are trustworthy they will calm down.
   
   
2. Invading rabbits. There are ton of rabbits ravaging the carrot patches. They're easily frightened, but some are more tenacious than others. Beware of the white rabbit with red eyes.
   
   
3. Save the crops! Several batches are already starting to spoil! The only thing that can save them is dumping as much positive emotions into them. Joy of good food, hope for a bountiful meal, love of eating—whatever will work. Just be careful. Too much and those things might grow and explode…

• Prompt E: Aiada, the Arehtei of appreciation and jealousy, has sent a personal request for those who are interested. There is a small island just beneath Empatheias that she has been cultivating over the many centuries. She wishes to contribute to the Harvest Festival with some seeds and spores. However, the recent atmosphere has also reached down there, and now it's all a mess! Giant mushrooms replaced the trees and there's slime and mold everywhere. The cure? Aside from getting a lot of heavy duty cleaners and pushing it off, appreciation will go a long way to help.

1. Goop brigade. Grab that bucket and shovel and clear the goop out! Just be careful not to have too much get on you—jealousy might take over.
   
   
2. Appreciation balls. To help hasten the effort, Aiada has given several tubs filled with light, green orbs. Once channeled with enough appreciation, they can be used as mini-grenades to help explode and wash the area with more positive energy. Those caught in the blast won't be harmed. If anything, they'll just be very thankful.
   
   
3. Watch the ledges. Careful, it's a fairly small island and the goop and slime has made things slick. If you fall… That's not a good way to go, let's just say that.

• Prompt F: Various parties are interested in the emotion shards scattered all over Thera. But this time around, the focus is on the medical laboratory as the equipment and potential research there is also of interest. For three days those who volunteer are sent back to try and gather as much as possible—but of course this won't be easy.

1. Skeletal Scientists. The remains of the scientists who once worked in these rooms are still lurking, ready to protect their work. Fortunately they're relatively weak nerds, so not too difficult to dispatch. Just be careful.
   
   
2. Flying equipment. The various medical equipment has also taken life, scalpels and needles flying everywhere and stethoscopes ready to strangle.
   
   
3. Questionable liquid. Most of the easy shards have already been taken, leaving the more difficult to retrieve ones left. In particular they're found in strange, dark pink liquid. It's mostly harmless—except that upon contact intense waves of grief and suffering will course through. The longer the exposure, the worse it is. So hopefully a bucket full of it doesn't fall on you…

• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include feathers and/or confetti.

Prompt C - Yoohoo!

[Upon hearing about what the amulets did, Yukizome, of course, could not help but give it a swing out of sheer curiosity.]

Hellooooooooo! Mic test, mic test, can anyone hear me?

[...Though maybe she could use a little less enthusiasm, as anyone listening in would probably have to cover their telepathic ears due to the volume at which she declared her statements.]

Prompt E-1 - Honestly this has Yukizome's name written all over it

[A bucket, a shovel, and tons of goop.

Throw in a certain Chisa Yukizome, and there's only one logical thing to do.

Rolling up her sleeves, Yukizome smiled and hummed a small tune as she began shoveling goop into the bucket at an astonishing speed--a feat befitting someone who was formerly the Ultimate Housekeeper.

She was, of course, raring to go. It was nice having a task up her alley for a change, and if there's one thing about Yukizome that remained the same despite being part of Ultimate Despair, it would be her love for cleaning.

After filling in a few more buckets, she paused in her task, staring at the goop in wonder as it seemed to... disappear?

Well, that was Yukizome's enthusiasm and appreciation for you. Cleaning up things, just like their owner. Maybe you'll notice that, or maybe it's the speed at which she clears the area.]

[It's the person he notices while he's manipulating Dunamis to clear pathways through the goop. Komaeda pauses, a dragon made of water circling his person and ready to be unleashed. He almost can't believe his eyes. He keeps his hands raised then flicks one to the side.

The watery beast does exactly as directed and carves a walkway through the mold and slime, opening a path between the two of them.] Miss Yukizome? If it's not too much trouble. Will you take a moment to join me?

[He's older than she'd last seen him. The lines of his body are more clearly defined, where a young man on the cusp of adulthood crossed into being a man. It doesn't end there, his arms show muscle definition and he is dressed in a dark green shirt, the sleeves rolled up, work grade pants, and heavy duty boots.]

I was hoping to get some of your expertise on where to make pathways for other workers.

K-Komaeda-kun?!

[In her surprise, she nearly dropped the shovel she was holding. Well, that certainly wasn't a face she was expecting to see. Older and much more like a man at that.

Just like Kyosuke.

Briefly, her cheeks flushed at the thought, which she quickly stamped out. Get a hold of yourself, Chisa Yukizome! Older or not, she can't afford to be thinking of her students in that manner. Or well, think of Kyosuke right now. Whatever it was that she was blushing about. It was pride at how much he'd grown, she swore!

That aside, Komaeda was controlling what seemed to be a water dragon, which she then regarded thoughtfully. She heard about Dunamis, of course, but didn't quite find the time to bother with it. So it could produce those things, huh?

Still, she wasn't sure why Komaeda wanted her "expertise" on the said matter of pathways, considering what she did best. But whatever, she'll go along with it. It was a good opportunity to catch up with Komaeda, after all.]

Sure, I can join you. [She broke into a smile as she approached.] I think I saw another spot that needed clearing, so let's make our way there.

[She gave the dragon and the path it carved a curious glance before continuing.]

But to think you'd actually beat me at cleaning! That dragon is sure convenient!

[eyeswideopen]

I wouldn't call it beating you! I've been here two years so...my knowledge of gives me a bit of an edge. [He pulls the energy of the dragon back into himself, causing it to fade. With a smile in her direction he starts in the direction she indicated. His motives had been several fold, but he really just wants to talk to her.]

In time you'll surpass me. My focus is in a different area. [At his belt rests his gauntlet weapons, folded up since he doesn't need to use them right now.]

...when did you get here? I've been busy with work off the island. I apologize we haven't seen each other until now, Sensei.

[As much as Zenyatta appreciates her energy, that. Is a very loud introduction. Once his aural receptors have settled down he's quick to cut in with a little helpful advice.]

Loud and clear, my friend. You need not shout, however.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!

[This time, she made sure to keep her voice down, and her tone apologetic. She hadn't quite realized she was thinking that loud!]

We don't have anything like this back in my world, and I think I got a little too excited...

[Even telepathically Zenyatta's laugh is light and almost bubbly.]

Understandably so! This is extraordinary technology- though I wonder if I should not call it magic instead. [For someone who clearly sounds like a robot he seems very okay with that fact.] Why don't we begin with your name?

[ He sounds slightly apologetic, if only because he knows what happened to her. ]

H-Hinata-kun?!

[Yukizome was unable to hide her shock at hearing him again, considering what she knew and suspected of the Kamukura Project.]

You're here? But how?

[ Hinata himself nods mentally through the link — he then swaps to a visual to have her see him. Who he is now. He's older, broader in the chest, and has dual colored eyes that don't match. One that represents himself as who he is: Hinata Hajime. The other that represents what Hope's Peak had attempted to make him into. Manufactured hope. One who embodied all of the talents.

His voice is kind as he speaks up. ]

I've been here for almost a year now. [ That doesn't answer the 'but how', however. ] This is your first time using the amulets, right? Did you need help with anything, though? I don't know if you've ran into the other 77th class members yet, but... if I can help, I'd like to.

[Don't mind the one person audience over here. She doesn't seem to really be contributing to the cleanup, she's just sort of...here. Look, she heard things were a mess, wanted to see what kind of mess it was, and just hasn't gotten around to leaving yet.]

Man, with somebody like you here, this'll all be cleaned up in no time!

[Which is gross...really. Can you not make things better Yukizome, really. There's enough of that going around here already.

But whatever, she'll put on a fake smile and compliment her friends' teacher because hey, what else could she really do here?]

[Her eyes widened in shock at first, though she quickly recovered from it, sparing the other woman a smile. It was nice seeing familiar faces, after all.

Especially one she was all too glad to see.]

I hope so! And it would be waaaay faster if you helped too!

[A mischievous glint could be seen in her eyes as she offered a bucket and shovel to Junko, not quite expecting the other to take it. But who knows.]

[Well now...

This is a surprise. Not too surprising, everybody seems to come from one dramatic point or another, but still, it's somewhat surprising. So there's a moment of just sort of letting it all sink in and then just...smiling still, but it's a hell of a lot more honest than it was before.]

It'd help, huh? Do I look like I want to clean up a bunch of shit? Pretty sure that's your job.

[Now she's just looking at the bucket like it's something foul. And not the fun kind of foul where she can do something awful with it either. The shovel though, she can think of a few things to do with that one, but Chisa can hang on to it for now.]

I've got way more important messes to deal with than a bunch of mushrooms growing somewhere. You do too, for that matter.

[ oh my, that is certainly one way to make an introduction and if it were at all possible to press mute adjust the volume on that, he would in a heartbeat. ]

I'm almost certain everyone can hear you. [ he laughs a little regardless. ]

[At those words, she flushed pink in embarrassment, not quite expecting that her voice ended up being that loud to those who could hear her.]

Yikes!

[She laughed along anyway, even if it was to her expense. Regardless, she made a note to keep her voice down, speaking normally this time around.]

I'm sorry about that. It looked so small, I thought it wouldn't carry my voice if I just spoke normally!

It looks like it takes some getting used to.

[ he hasn't played around with the amulet that much himself but it does seem to come in handy for communication with the lack of devices here. ]

At least you know it works? Better than getting nothing but radio silence back, hm? [ he laughs a little again, softly this time. ]

[Phoenix had come to help out with the clean-up. He had rolled up his sleeves, donned gloves and a surgical mask, armed himself with cleaning supplies and everything! ...Only to be confused to see it mostly seemed to be gone.]

...W-wasn't there supposed to be some really big mess here?

There was. But I cleaned it all up!

[Placing her hands on her hips, Yukizome beamed and puffed out her chest in pride.]

Emotions sure are powerful! Just now, I was feeling really glad I went for this job and then the goop started cleaning itself up!

[He smiles at the proud lady and gives an impressed whistle.]

Wow! The power of emotions sure are something else. [I could have really used this power back home!] Now I feel silly for bringing all this cleaning stuff... but hey, great job!

[Even with a small 'ow' at the end, she can't help but laugh a little at the sheer amount of enthusiasm. She seriously hopes she wasn't this bad when first using the amulets, too.]

[For a bit, Yukizome did sound apologetic and kept her voice down, but she quickly turned indignant as she spoke again.]

But hey, you're being kinda rude, you know! What's with this "human" business, huh? Not even a "miss" or anything?

[A pause, then a resigned sigh.]

Though you did say "please", so maybe not completely rude. Just 80% rude, I guess. Anyway, this "human" has a name, and it's "Chisa Yukizome"!

[Nanami freezes in place, uncertain and maybe a little fearful, and it shows in the protective barrier that flashes around her momentarily (unfortunately not long enough to do any good). The last time she'd seen her teacher, it had been when she was pushed into the elevator...

Does she hold what happened against Yukizome? No, not really; she can't completely feel animosity against the person who helped her gain so many friends that she loves. Yukizome is one of the people she loves.

But to say that she wasn't a little afraid of her... That would be a lie.

So she keeps her distance, but resolves to try and work with her. Empatheias is a new place, a whole new world - and it's their place to start over.]

You're doing really well with cleaning up here... But I can help if you need it.

[At the all-too familiar voice, Yukizome immediately turned to the source, already prepared to greet the other with a smile.

It was her favorite student, after all.]

Nanami-san! What a surprise!

[She decided not to talk about the elephant in the room--at least for now, given the momentary and literal flash of fear that did not escape her notice.]

And sure, I think I can use a break!

[She offered the bucket and shovel to Chiaki, still grinning widely as she did so. While her words were patently untrue, she was, in fact, genuinely happy to see Chiaki again. Even with everything that had gone down between the two of them.]
