Welcome to

empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

Date reminders. Reserves open Tuesday, October 25 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Tuesday, November 1st.
OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!

PROMPTS

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...

• Prompt D: The Boreas Harvest Festival is fast approaching, and the farmers are trying hard to work through the bleak weather conditions to get their crops in before they go bad from all the apathy. All hands on deck—but there may be too many unwanted hands roaming around.

Scarecrows. The scarecrows that have been set up as a festive reminder of the time of year have unfortunately come under the influence of some errant strong emotions from the farm hands that work in the fields. Unfortunately that includes trying to ward off anyone who enters the fields with pitchforks and is one of them carrying a torch? Maybe if they can be convinced that you are trustworthy they will calm down.
Invading rabbits. There are ton of rabbits ravaging the carrot patches. They're easily frightened, but some are more tenacious than others. Beware of the white rabbit with red eyes.
Save the crops! Several batches are already starting to spoil! The only thing that can save them is dumping as much positive emotions into them. Joy of good food, hope for a bountiful meal, love of eating—whatever will work. Just be careful. Too much and those things might grow and explode…

• Prompt E: Aiada, the Arehtei of appreciation and jealousy, has sent a personal request for those who are interested. There is a small island just beneath Empatheias that she has been cultivating over the many centuries. She wishes to contribute to the Harvest Festival with some seeds and spores. However, the recent atmosphere has also reached down there, and now it's all a mess! Giant mushrooms replaced the trees and there's slime and mold everywhere. The cure? Aside from getting a lot of heavy duty cleaners and pushing it off, appreciation will go a long way to help.

Goop brigade. Grab that bucket and shovel and clear the goop out! Just be careful not to have too much get on you—jealousy might take over.
Appreciation balls. To help hasten the effort, Aiada has given several tubs filled with light, green orbs. Once channeled with enough appreciation, they can be used as mini-grenades to help explode and wash the area with more positive energy. Those caught in the blast won't be harmed. If anything, they'll just be very thankful.
Watch the ledges. Careful, it's a fairly small island and the goop and slime has made things slick. If you fall… That's not a good way to go, let's just say that.

• Prompt F: Various parties are interested in the emotion shards scattered all over Thera. But this time around, the focus is on the medical laboratory as the equipment and potential research there is also of interest. For three days those who volunteer are sent back to try and gather as much as possible—but of course this won't be easy.

Skeletal Scientists. The remains of the scientists who once worked in these rooms are still lurking, ready to protect their work. Fortunately they're relatively weak nerds, so not too difficult to dispatch. Just be careful.
Flying equipment. The various medical equipment has also taken life, scalpels and needles flying everywhere and stethoscopes ready to strangle.
Questionable liquid. Most of the easy shards have already been taken, leaving the more difficult to retrieve ones left. In particular they're found in strange, dark pink liquid. It's mostly harmless—except that upon contact intense waves of grief and suffering will course through. The longer the exposure, the worse it is. So hopefully a bucket full of it doesn't fall on you…

• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include feathers and/or confetti.

[Falling face first on the ground really does suck.]

[Falling face first on the ground and then realizing ~~the love of your life~~ your crush just saw it? Double sucks.]

[She let out an undignified squeak as she scrambled up to a sitting position, eyes wide and face red as she flailed her hands a bit.]

A-Adrien! Hi! III'm totally fine! Uh, what are you doing out here?

[Totally natural, right??]

[He's getting a bit used to Marinette's usual brand of clumsiness and won't think badly of it. She's extremely cool in so many other areas! She just... falls a lot.]

Hey! I was going to get some late lunch. [He offers the rolls he had picked up.] Not having a tight schedule is so weird, but sort of nice. How are you? Doing some shopping?

[Marinette accepts Adrien's help up, and takes back the rolls of fabric he offers her.]

Oh, that's nice. It's sort of weird, not having to worry about school or anything like that, huh? [It had felt weird for her to not have to worry about school when she first came here. She could only imagine how relaxed Adrien's new schedule was; no Chinese lessons, no modelling, no nothing.]

[At his question, she brightens.] Yeah, I found some really nice fabric! I can't remember what the shopkeeper said it was called, but it feels so soft. There's so many different fabrics here!

I don't miss the modeling gigs, but I kind of miss school a lot. I liked going to class and hanging out with our classmates. That part is fun!

[His fingers go over one of the rolls.] You're right, that's so soft! My father would probably kill to have something like this fabric on his next collection.

Yeah, that part I do miss. And it would be nice if Alya or Nino were here... [Not to mention her parents... but at least Adrien was here, and Tikki.]

[She brushes those thoughts aside, nodding as he feels the fabrics.] I know, right?? Whatever these are made of is amazing! I was planning to make some winter clothes out of these. The merchant who sold them said that it was a warm material, so I think it would be perfect for scarves or gloves or even a coat.

[The metal in a lamp post is starting to get rusty. Adrien really wants to see Nino and the others, but at the same time they'd be away from their families and their lives so...] I feel a bit guilty to want my friends here. I love that you're with me, but I'm sad you're far from home as well? It's not like the akuma back in Paris and we have to wait for the superheros to save us, so to speak. [Or, uh, transform into one and get rid of the problem.]

[Yet he's glad that Marinette has found something fun in her interests to do. She's so lucky in that sense. Nino would probably suffer without his DJ equipment, and Alya would go insane with no Internet.] That sounds awesome! You're really talented so all those things will be amazing. [Have a bright smile, girl. It's true he thinks he's only worn one Dupain-Cheng exclusive, but that allergy-bomb of a hat was so professional. So he's sincere!]

[Marinette can't help but scratch the back of her head at his comments.] Honestly... I don't blame you. I feel the same way. It's so cool being here, but what about my parents, and all our friends? I mean, I'm not sure whether I'm wanting them to be stuck here with us or if I should be happy they're safe at home.

[A bit of a sad subject, but she's glad that at least Adrien shares her concerns. She offers him a small smile.] Yeah, without any Internet or TV, I've been getting a lot of sewing done. I sometimes even do baking when I feel like it. What about you?

Yeah, I've heard things can be a bit dangerous around here so it's sorta good. Then again, we're from Paris and there's danger daily. Must be Tuesday and all!

Maybe you should take commissions or take apprenticeship in a boutique. [He almost adds "or a bakery" but that should remind her of her parents. Better not.] I've been going to this city called Theasthai to watch plays sometimes. It's not the movies or TV, but it's a way to scratch the itch. [Wait, does that count as a cat pun...? He stretched his arms.] Nnnng, I need a hobby like you! Maybe I should find a fencing or a piano instructor? Do they even have pianos here?

You know, I was thinking of doing something like that! Seeing if any boutiques need any apprentices. [She pauses, before letting out a small chuckle.] I was also considering working at a bakery part-time. I've got the experience to do so.

If they did have pianos, it's probably all steampunk-y like everything else here. [But he does have a point, he must feel lost without any of his extra-curricular activities.] Well hey! This is a new place, isn't it? It could be your chance to try something you've never done before! Like, uh... [She ponders to think.] Something like... uh, whatever they do in steampunk cities?

I'm sure they'd accept you in any of both! You have so much experience! Meanwhile, there isn't a lot of work for models so I'm mostly waiting tables and helping at a party agency.

[He's taking tasks as Chat Noir, but there's no chance someone like Adrien would be working on those.]

Steampunk pianos sounds much less stuffy than normal pianos, I'd be all for practicing with one of those. [Hmmmm.] That's a good question. What do you do in a steampunk city with emotion magic and with all the freedom in the world? Like, I can't embarrass my father because no one but us knows him! So maybe... the opposite of modeling.

I wouldn't mind doing either. If I did get a job at a bakert it would at least keep me in practice making croissants and cookies. [Because even though she wasn't a fantastic baker, she'd picked up a few tips and tricks from her family.]

That's a good thing about this place, at least! You get to try out things that you normally couldn't back home. So why not try something that would be fun? [A beat.] Uh, just as long as it's not, like... crazy dangerous or anything, at least.

Good! I've been wanting to try more things from your folks' boulangerie for ages now, so this will be pretty close.

Aww, there goes my plan to learn hardcore martial arts! [He makes a pause to see if Marinette reacts to that.] Just kidding. I know some self defense but I was never allowed to do moves that would threaten my face. Fencing has the mask and all... [It's a miracle, pun intended, he never broke his nose as Chat.] What I want to try is acting. That should be pretty different from modeling, much more fun.

[Gosh, why does he have to be like that?? She flushes, waving her arms a bit.]

W-Well I can't say it'll be as good as my dad's, but I'll do my best!

[H-He wanted to try her baking... she could melt right there. But she pulls herself together, blinking at his comment before snorting.]

Not happy with just fencing? I thought that was pretty rough... [She nods at his explanation; it made sense, really. Though, she brightens at his claim to want to try acting.] I think that's a great idea, Adrien! That would be really fun, plus I think you'd be perfect for it! Why not see if there are any acting troupes in town?
