Street Fighting Ring & Takedown plotting!

Since there's a lot of us taking on this particular task board job, I'm posting here on the OOC community so we can hash out ideas and get our ducks in a row about what we'll all be doing throughout the month with these tasks!

We can discuss what our characters might attempt, their investigation efforts, and if or how they'll end up collaborating with each other here in this post. Toss out ideas and let's have some fun with this!

Edit: Also, do we want a mingle log for this spanning October?

I'm game for touching base at one point, in case no one hasn't yet! Jade doesn't really care about the age of the people he collaborates with so as long as they show they're reliable.

Also, yes to a mingle log! Should lessen the clutter around and make things easier to track.

[personal profile] jeido 2016-10-05 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Jade would definitely be on-board with that line of thinking! So do we just stick these two in a random cafe somewhere to compare notes? Or did you have a more specific place in mind?

For the catch-all log, I'm thinking you might as well do the honors, ahaha.

Also, a random P.S. since I don't know where else to stick this, but due to the semi-planned outcome of one thread, Jade will be severely injured and will either be operating at half-efficiency for the takedown or will be absent for it (I haven't quite decided what the case). So in case Estelle and Jade make any takedown plans in the course of the mingle thread, it will most likely have a few hitches at best, a fall-out at worst. |D
jeido: (skit - guys pls)

For some reason, while thinking out that situation, I TOTALLY forgot healing magic was a thing. And that's there's more people around to use it.

But yes, since it's a thing, I'll be more than happy to bring him back for the takedown event! He'll do his part, but he'll probably snark about it and use it as an excuse to let the kids do more of the bone-breaking work lmao
jeido: (smile - sparkle)

Thanks for the catch-all for plotting!

So, Jade. The main reason he's around is mostly for law enforcement shenanigans and not the fighting and it's the player that wants to make things difficult for him.

I'm planning to handwave the investigation process for the most part, but it mostly involves getting information off the gang members themselves, so he gets in by participating in several brawls and being casual with the other members of the gang as a result of them. Anyway, there's mainly two things I want to thread out here:

(1) A street fight (or multiple ones!) and perhaps the aftermath of any handwaved ones
(2) Escaping/running away with an injury (or handling an injury in general)

Notes regarding (1):

Jade, to put it plainly, is not a brawler. His weapon of choice is a spear and thus is more experienced with that. However, due to his military background and other things about his past (i.e. being childhood friends with Peony, who is learned in martial artes), I would assume that he knows his way around fighting barehanded and can hold his own in a fight. However, it's more than 90% likely that he would lose a fight to a pro. Still, he won't be going down without a fight! Well, for the most part, ahaha.

Notes regarding (2):

I'm thinking this should take place after people try to apprehend the ring leader(s?). Mostly depends on what's the consensus for how our investigators take care of the culprits/mastermind. So the gang members catch wind of Jade's true allegiances some way or another. They end up jumping him and while Jade manages to subdue them by resorting to his favored weapon, he doesn't exactly escape unscathed. Also, they are strangely more upset about the fact that Jade actually uses a spear over the fact that he's working for the Enforcers.

That's one possibility! Another one I'm thinking of is handling an injury after a street fight, but it depends a lot on who he ends up fighting.

---

This got long, but I'm game for threading/plotting out pretty much anything, really! o/

P.S. Due to the nature of this task, he will not be wearing his military uniform and will be donning something plainer. However, my icons will more or less be the same. Just a heads up!

So, Hinata here doesn't look like a fighter at all and will definitely not engage unless engaged himself -- in which he will OHKO some people because he is just ridiculously talented in martial arts + sword fighting + what have you.

He won't necessarily enjoy it but will engage as necessary! If anyone gets hurt, Hinata also has medical skills so he's willing to also assist on that regard.

Edit, because I forgot, like the smart person I am: in regards to CR, I'm rather open! If anyone stirs the pot, Hinata is here to break up any infighting and fights that get too far. If people want to fight him and get themselves taken down a peg, I'm willing to do that as well! Feel free to hit me up, too.

OK SO for those of you who are not familiar with Shiro's canon, the very first thing that happens in it is that Shiro and his crew are captured by an evil alien empire. There's a timeskip and Shiro comes back with white hair, scars, a robot arm, and a huge year long gap in his memory thanks to all the trauma. Later, it turns out that the aliens forced him to fight as a gladiator, where he managed to defeat the reigning champion in his very first fight and remain undefeated thereafter. Which undoubtedly led into further unpleasant bullshit because Shiro's life is suffering.

THE POINT IS Shiro is 1) a very good fighter, and 2) has something of a personal vendetta against bloodsports in general.

My main goals here:
-Shiro's time as a gladiator in canon earned him the title of Champion, which the villains still sometimes call him, and as you can imagine, he does not care for that very much. So naturally I would like him to gain enough of a Reputation in these fights for a similarly uncomfortable nickname to stick if not just straight up. People here also calling him Champion.

-Shiro's fighting style is brutal, to put it bluntly. He aims to take his opponent out as quickly and thoroughly as possible, mercilessly seeking out and exploiting weak spots to do so. It's brutal, efficient, emotionless, and a huuuuuuge contrast to the casually friendly cool older brother vibe he usually gives off. I know some of his already-established CR is also participating in this, so if anybody wants to look at that and go dude, what the fuck, I am super up for this.

-He's working with Kevin Regnard on this, though I'll leave it up to Callie to discuss how much involvement and such she wants in this overall.

-This is probably not going to do his PTSD any favors.

-Come at me, bro.

Yes, hello, I will just piggyback here --

So way back when Kevin first came to Emp and was too PTSD himself for things like "actual jobs" and "interacting on a regular and routine basis with other human beings", he used to earn himself a bit of lunch money out in the pubs, winning bets in regards to his fighting ability. He's tiny and skittish and so he's often underestimated, but he can and routinely does take down people twice his size, and he used this to his advantage until he'd built up a reputation as a fantastic duelist in certain parts of the city.

He still has that reputation, and more importantly, a lot of these NPC people he still gets together to spar with are well aware that he is an Enforcer.

Because of that he's not allowed to go into the field for this and that's where Shiro comes in. If Shiro is actually there and participating and looking around, he can feed what he sees to Kevin through the amulets, who'll be able to identify a few of these people. Not all of them, certainly, but enough to get a few leads and set the rest of the Enforcers on the trail. I am open to other characters getting in on this, but unless you're dying for CR for some reason, I will request that we handwave most of Kevin's involvement -- I've got a deadline and am unable to do more than pick out a tag or two a day for this first week or so, and later in the month he's going Adventuring™, so I'd like to save this month's threads for that and for Not!Boreas.

You know, it occurred to me this morning that if Shiro's broadcasting everything he sees back to Kevin, if something happens to set off a flashback, Kevin'll get that, too. Is that something you're interested in pursuing or nah?

Awesome sauce. Hmmm let's see. Okay my mind wandered and came up with this idea. Whaaat if Canach happens to spot him during one of Shiro's fights and he comes up to him after? Then from there they could try and do some investigative stuff. Maybe even get into a brawl with a decently ranked member and they have to work together to take him down.

Greed is a very good fighter, likes fighting a bit too much, and generally looks like he belongs in a biker gang. He is definitely the sort who looks like he belongs in the club-- maybe that could be used to the advantage of whoever he ends up collaborating with, I'm cool.

He's definitely doing this as a lone wolf sort of thing, but if someone wants to join up with him let me know!

When it comes to fighting style, Greed is a damn cheater because he's fast, strong, and can make his skin as hard as diamonds with very little effort. That being said, I'm not really interested in having him win by default-- let's hash out something if you want to have your character fight Greed so it's a bit more even.

So, Wrath is interested in the street fighting just to make some money and bleed off some of his raging aggression and anger.

He is basically an absolutely filthy cheater because he can read people with the Ultimate Eye. This doesn't mean he can't be taken down, but the only way he was ever even slowed in canon was by what amounted to a double-suicide attack. Even lacking his eye, he's absurdly good.

The long story short is that I'm interested in him being, basically, a 'villain' of this little piece -- someone who's cutting down fighters without mercy, someone who can hurt your character for any drama you'd be interested in playing out of that or knock them out of their complacency with their skill, and someone who may escape in the end and leave lingering negative CR or even just general problems for people to deal with. He'll be fighting while concealed enough to allow for plausible deniability in the end, so escaping will be a priority for him.

I'm totally open to consideration for many things and utterly willing to be a vehicle if you have a story you want to consider for your character, so hit me up.

Hi! I'd be up for some CR from one (false) old man to another, positive or negative! Though most likely negative considering Wrath's temperament, ahaha.

I mostly want to RP the battle portion for any interesting dialogue that might come out of it, but what do you think? The transition I'm thinking of is that the fight starts out as a normal street fight (barehanded, I gather), but I imagine things eventually go south for Jade (not sure how soon it would be, depends if Wrath pulls punches at first to toy around with his opponent or immediately goes ham in the fight). When that does happen, Jade'll most likely infer that his opponent is cheating one way or another, and as such, well, quits pulling punches pretty much literally. He'll be materializing his weapon at this point and would be using it, though I imagine it won't make much of a difference in the long run. And I don't think Wrath would leave him enough time to cast some of the more destructive spells in his repertoire, so it's gonna be just Jade, his spear, and whatever small artes he could squeeze in.

I don't expect Jade to win this one, in any case. I'm also open to making this as deadly as necessary.

In any case, let me know if you'll be up for threading, thanks!
kingandeye: (laugh)

[personal profile] kingandeye 2016-10-04 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That works splendidly. Considering Wrath is basically out to get paid for hurting people, yeaaaah probably negative CR. :D

Ahaha, awesome! Please give Colonel Troll the beating of his life, then!

I think I can get around to posting the top-level/starter for this once the (hypothetical) mingle log goes up! Also, say, would any date on October work IC-ly? I'm thinking of forward-dating it to around mid-October (since I'm expecting Jade to bow out of this task after the fight with Wrath), but if that doesn't work, I think we can figure out another date! (Or we can always finalize the date later and just settle on the range, I'm admittedly curious about the upcoming "???" events ahaha)

By the way, how "concealed" would Wrath be in the fights? Jade's pretty much going casual for the fights instead of wearing his usual military uniform, so I don't expect him to be easily recognizable as well. This is mostly for reference in possible future encounters, ahaha.

Canach has always been a bit of a vigilante type, but still runs along his own tune. And he's kind of bored and beating up humans while taking down an illegal ring is one way to do something.

He doesn't doubt that there will be others there, and seeing a few will only confirm that. Having had to do his own investigations and infiltration before, this isn't new for him either. His main way of "investigating" is really just participating in fights, figuring out who the strong members out, try and learn or lure out the leader that way. Lurk around dark alleys, make a few in-roads via winning fights. After all, not only would he be a potential rising fighter, being beaten by a non-human may spark something there. Make things interesting. As noble and well-spoken as he can appear, he's also quite crass. Getting under someone's skin is a great way to instigate fights and being an arrogant asshole is another. Given that he's also done some jail time as an ex-criminal, he also knows a bit about how that works.

In terms of his fighting prowess, he's had to deal fighting both humans and crazy creatures and dragon minions—including actual elder dragon (or well the mind dinosaur bear form of it). His arsenal of weapons includes the sword and shield, but he also knows his way with bombs and grenades. Obviously, unless the fights are including weapons, he's not using those. And with weapons, he'd stick with sword and shield. But he is a very adept Warrior class fighter and can be brutal (he was out on the run during his dark past as a criminal—fun story). Actually, now that I think about it, whenever it's time to perform the full sting, he will gladly chuck a few status effect filled grenades (sleep, paralysis, freeze, poison—name it he can make it).

If he finds that there are others doing the whole infiltration thing—although he prefers working on his own, he'd help if he finds the plan agreeable. Otherwise, he may do the "parallel" alliance where he won't directly help, but he won't get in the way and provide assistance when needed as they go toward the same goal. It just kind of depends on who it is and how he feels that day lol.

Personally I'd rather he DO work with someone. Make friends you stupid cactus. Only other thing is having a fight or two to have interesting conversations out of that, but otherwise I'm handwaving that.

Mikasa is part of the street fighting ring now when I finally remembered to put her there, ICly she's been there since the first day.

She's a terrifyingly competent, fast and agile girl; said to be worth a hundred or more soldiers in canon, she has martial arts training and she's more than great at fighting. And she looks like a fighter, she's strong -- easily lifting stuff with one hand or carrying more than others seem to carry in canon. Plus she's a prodigy, she learns stuff fast like she just walks in and does whatever she should do and that's it. So if your character thinks she can't handle a weapon because she's unfamiliar with it, too bad for them, she probably can handle it either way. And she usually fights against regeneratiing monsters with two blades, though she kills most of them with one hit. That is to say, she is used to fighting as that's how they survive against monsters and monsters in human form back in their world. Merciless but not killing anyone at Emp since they'd just come back, so what's the point of killing even.

Mikasa is here mostly to fight against people, duh. But I mean, if she finds out about this infiltrating thing and stuff, she won't try to stop them. No reaction and so on, she'll find sparring / fighting company elsewhere later and she's here to see if she sees any interesting opponents for future. Maybe someone could talk her into working with them, maybe. She's not that good at teamworking but she's not completely against it either if anyone has ideas. |:

I'm kinda just throwing her in and seeing what happens next. One day in the future she will actually make a post on the network, asking for sparring / fighting company but since this is happening now... XD

Joshua is not going to participate in the street fighting, rather in just the breaking up of the fighting. While he's a stupidly competent fighter and has super human skills due to a lot of conditioning, he's actually against hurting people. He'll resort to violence if he has to, but his #1 skill is actually not hand to hand combat.

His #1 skill is stealth. Basically, if your character is going in to distract the fighters, Joshua's an amazing backup who can knock people within seconds out without being seen before going back into hiding. He's also a trained spy so he can use that skill to observe the fights and perhaps even get info on who the ring leader is.

So I'm putting Joshua here as a support for people who are honestly trying to break up the ring and need that finisher. Though I'm also up for those people who are probably just as good as Joshua with stealth to see him and pick a fight with him. Just know he'll do what he can to break out of the fight quickly before going back into hiding since he's not really one for violence.

ORGANIZATION IDEA

[personal profile] canach 2016-10-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Since I rambled in the plurk, putting it here (feel free to c/p onto the main post for clearer visibility).

An overall "catch all" type log could work! Could organize/structure it like our event logs, so you'd have various subthreads. Here's my suggestion:

  • General Mingling. For all the miscellany chit-chat.

  • Streetfighting. Where all the fights and scenes involving the fights would go into.

  • Investigation. Focus on actual investigation. Fights may or may not happen, but the main purpose is getting information and stuffs.

  • The "Take-Down." This one is harder without pre-coordination, but one way to do it is set the scene right at the arrest/sting portion. May want to offer this part up for characters who are part of the Enforcers. But essentially, my suggestion is to go ahead and have a scene where it's set at like the base of operations, like some warehouse or some shady location outside of town. Those who are already on the "inside" will already be there and can help others outside infiltrate or just wait until the action starts and turn the tables on the gang. Everyone else who wants in just get ready for a mega brawl because, well, it is a street fighting gang and they probably wouldn't go on without a fight. It's likely that everyone participating will have power to arrest so they can help apprehend the bad guys.

And that's all I got. Feel free to chime in/add suggestions!
