TEST DRIVE: OCTOBER
Welcome to
empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:- Date reminders. Reserves open Saturday, September 24 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Saturday, October 1st.
- OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are currently allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• Prompt D: The increased exposure to Shaarnathian culture has prompted many in Verens to attempt to pick up on the discipline of Dunamis. The interest has become something of a popular trend, resulting in small businesses focusing around teaching the skill to those who are interested. Unfortunately, this doesn’t often go well for those who have lived on Empatheias for most of their life and relied so heavily on technology instead. In the seedier and more dubious schools this sometimes winds up disastrous, or outrageous in weird and interesting ways.
One particularly seedy school seems to take to the hands off approach, leaving their students alone to practice in an outside arena full of gourds of all sorts and sizes. Some also seem like they’ve gone quite rotten, resulting in a strange pungent odor. This goes about as well as expected when a particularly … enthusiastic … and poorly trained student manages to implode every last one into a glorious mess that rockets high into the sky.
Now half the shopping district is covered in various states of rotting gourd, and absolutely no one is happy about it. Nothing is spared, shops, stalls, and worst of all, the shoppers. Perhaps you’re one of the unfortunate victims of this mess, or you’re ready to help start the stinky cleanup.
• Prompt E: Someone is setting up a maze in the cornfield for kids and has run into an infestation that needs to be taken care of, but the bugs must be tackled in pairs because they're tricky bastards. They're a new species that not only releases a type of gas that makes one feel sluggish and apathetic, but they also "feed" off emotions. They're otherwise harmless, but it does make capture difficult. Since the use of pesticide is prohibited, the current tactic is for one person to act as "bait" while the other is armed with a special gun that shoots out a special paralyzing webbing. However, the shooter must stay hidden, and keep their emotions unnoticeable, or the bug will catch wind and will flee. After capture, they're thrown off the island. They're like roaches, no one wants them. In fact they also look like roaches. Still unwanted. Other tactics could be employed, but keep in mind that the farmers would like their crop to come out unharmed. Any damage incurred will come out of your pocket.
• Prompt F: A new acting troupe have established themselves in Verens, with a few new aspiring actors from Shaarnath. Through the use of Dunamis, the plays have become more lively and interactive. Most have welcomed them, but there are some groups who adhere to the "classic" way of acting, which can cause some tension.
Feel free to combine the scenarios and add whatever you'd like.

- The troupe are advertising themselves on various street corners and parks, all dressed in bright, colorful clothing! But instead of a regular play, they are beckoning others to join them in various impromptu acts. Action, comedy, romance, tragedy—anything goes! So what do you say, care to join? You can even pull in or shove the person next to you forward instead. Remember to put some feeling into it! Bonus: The scene may require some dunamis for prop work. Try it out!
- Perhaps you're one of the people siding with the classic actors. Or maybe you just don't like plays in general. There's a bucket of tomatoes just waiting to be thrown. Even better, the angrier you are, the more rotten and sour the fruit will be.

[...welcome to vesperia, we call our attacks here. He vanishes for a moment and reappears behind her, aiming to stab one of his knives in between her armor, wherever he can hit that will hurt the most, basically.]

Peri's at least thankful that she had the thought to turn around--he manages to get her right bicep before she's able to turn around all the way, and oh that smarts! He definitely gets it in deep--it's enough to cause the air to cool for a moment, a definite chill of fear passing through Peri before it heats up--with anger. And a small crack forming on the ground one of her feet. She's gonna try to grab the offending arm with a glare.]
I hate you, I hate you, I HATE YOU! Now you're gonna need tourniquet by the time I'm done with you!
[And either way, despite the pain? She's just gonna slash wildly at him--she's mad as hell that he got a hit like that on her, and now he's gonna pay!]

He realizes he's made a grave mistake when she starts lashing out. Freeing his knife from her arm is going to take a bit too long and he doesn't have time if he's going to dodge, so he leaves the knife where it is and pulls back. He's not quite quick enough though - the sword catches him hard across the right shoulder and down over his collarbone. Zagi puts some distance between them and checks where she's slashed. His shirt and vest have both been ripped, but more importantly is the fact that he's bleeding.
Obviously the only reaction to have to something like that is wild, unrestrained laughter.]
You're not too shabby! Only one other person's ever made me bleed before!
[He holds his other knife out, grinning wildly.]
So I'm not holding back anymore! Get ready! I'll bleed you dry!
[He'll rush forward again, but instead of aiming directly at her he'll aim where he's expecting her to be if she attacks wildly again.]

Thanks! I like to think I'm a little stabby myself!
[That's all she gets out before he starts rushing forward, and surprisingly enough, Peri rushes forward as well--she's definitely still in pain from the wound, but she's going to start slashing wildly again in order to try and get a hit, without any sort of care put into it at all. He should have an opening to strike again, if he watches her strikes!]

Without his second knife he can really only block her wild swings, but that isn't all that annoying either, he can't predict her as easily as he can most people (and he's fought a lot of people) so knowing when and how to block is exciting enough for the time being. He could probably keep this up for awhile but instead he moves to try to kick her legs out from under her - even if it doesn't work it should give him enough time to dodge away and grab his other knife from where she dropped it on the ground.]

...Well, him not kicking her legs out from under her would definitely be something. He manages to do that and send her right to the ground--right on her rear, which will definitely give him more than enough time to get that knife back while Peri tries to get back up. And when she does, it's with a manic grin.]
Get back here, I wanna slice you up again!
[And she'll start to rush at him again, raising her sword up and hoping to slice the other side of him when she brings it down!]

[He blocks with his left knife and brings his right up to aim for her throat, which would probably be fatal if he actually hit.
Unfortunately for him, the emotional effects his excitement have been giving off finally explode (literally) in a flashbang that's bright, loud, and forceful, effectively knocking him backwards and off his feet. He's still got his left knife but his right has been lost somewhere and slightly more pressing is the fact that the flashbang was bright enough to completely screw his vision up for the time being.]
What the hell was that!?
[Which is of course just making the temperature spike and the ground tremble while he tries to get his bearings.]

If it weren't for that flashbang--who on earth could've put it there, how did it happen--and it sends Peri back a decent ways too, right onto the ground. It definitely dazes her a bit--her left eye is definitely messed up for the time being, but she wound up closing her right eye on impulse. She brushes her bangs aside and opens that eye up, looking around.]
So that wasn't something you did on purpose? Aww, but it was super cool, though--I thought you made the knife explode to make things even more fun!
[...Wait, actually, why is the ground shaking--]
You're not doing that on purpose either, right? Or are you? The ground is kind of shaky!

[The ground shakes a little more before it stops entirely and Zagi sighs loudly. This has totally thrown him off and now he's not in the mood to kill anyone. Interruptions are the worst.]
It's that emotional stuff, I think. You know, emotions cause weird stuff to happen around you. I didn't intentionally do any of that. I don't use magic so I couldn't make the earth shake on purpose even if I wanted to.
[His vision is slowly coming back, give him a moment to notice her eyes.]

[...how, she's not sure. Considering how moodswingy she is, she's pretty sure she just got used to the warming, cooling, and all of the other weird stuff her emotions could do. Sort of, at least; her emotions still surprise her quite a bit from time to time.]
Wouldn't it be cool to control stuff like that, though? You could cause an earthquake and get a bunch of people stuck! And then you could go around and go chop! Thwack! Hack! And then all of their heads fall off!

[It sounds sort of pleased though and Zagi moves to prop his elbows on his knees and lace his hands together in front of him. His other knife isn't too far away now that he can see again, but he'll go grab it in a second. He's no longer in any rush.]
It'd be way more fun to do that sorta thing while you're battling. I've cut off a few heads before but it's never any fun unless there's a challenge in it!
[That's about when he notices her other eye and he tips his head a bit as he studies it.]
You've got two different colored eyes? Huh. That's pretty neat.
[...his are pink and they match his stupid hair, so this isn't too surprising.]

[Like her, she imagines! Peri's not making much of a move to push herself off the ground, but she does dust herself off a bit and look at any blood on her. It's nice and calming to look at--reminds her of home, even in this weird place. Even if a lot of it is her own!
Peri does beam a bit at the compliment, though--and if the sparkles in the air are any indication, she does take that to heart.]
You know what? I like you! Everyone else who sees my eyes thinks they're weird, and you let me cut you without complaining! I'm jealous of yours, though, they match your hair! I want a blue and pink eye so mine match too...
[Peri looks to the long discarded paper--the one with the job offering on it. ...The one that they were about to kill each other for because they wanted to stab something. Peri seems to think for a moment...]
Are you still sure you want to do that yourself? I kind of want to see more of your fighting, so I want to come with you! Maybe we can compete to see how many of those mammoths we can kill ourselves!

[Since she's the second person to make him bleed, he absolutely will.
He's actually perfectly fine listening to her now that the adrenaline is gone. He follows her gaze to the paper though and he moves to prop his chin on his hand. It's an interesting proposal that she offers and assuming she wouldn't get in the way he wouldn't have any problems letting someone watch, so...]
Yeah, you know what? Sure. You can tag along. I can take out anything and anyone so I'm not worried about a mammoth or whatever. I've never fought one so it oughta be fun.
