TEST DRIVE: OCTOBER

— TEST DRIVE: OCTOBER —

Welcome to [community profile] empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

  • Date reminders. Reserves open Saturday, September 24 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Saturday, October 1st.

  • OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are currently allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.

  • Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.

  • Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.

  • Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.

  • First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!

PROMPTS

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...

• Prompt D: The increased exposure to Shaarnathian culture has prompted many in Verens to attempt to pick up on the discipline of Dunamis. The interest has become something of a popular trend, resulting in small businesses focusing around teaching the skill to those who are interested. Unfortunately, this doesn’t often go well for those who have lived on Empatheias for most of their life and relied so heavily on technology instead. In the seedier and more dubious schools this sometimes winds up disastrous, or outrageous in weird and interesting ways.

One particularly seedy school seems to take to the hands off approach, leaving their students alone to practice in an outside arena full of gourds of all sorts and sizes. Some also seem like they’ve gone quite rotten, resulting in a strange pungent odor. This goes about as well as expected when a particularly … enthusiastic … and poorly trained student manages to implode every last one into a glorious mess that rockets high into the sky.

Now half the shopping district is covered in various states of rotting gourd, and absolutely no one is happy about it. Nothing is spared, shops, stalls, and worst of all, the shoppers. Perhaps you’re one of the unfortunate victims of this mess, or you’re ready to help start the stinky cleanup.

• Prompt E: Someone is setting up a maze in the cornfield for kids and has run into an infestation that needs to be taken care of, but the bugs must be tackled in pairs because they're tricky bastards. They're a new species that not only releases a type of gas that makes one feel sluggish and apathetic, but they also "feed" off emotions. They're otherwise harmless, but it does make capture difficult. Since the use of pesticide is prohibited, the current tactic is for one person to act as "bait" while the other is armed with a special gun that shoots out a special paralyzing webbing. However, the shooter must stay hidden, and keep their emotions unnoticeable, or the bug will catch wind and will flee. After capture, they're thrown off the island. They're like roaches, no one wants them. In fact they also look like roaches. Still unwanted. Other tactics could be employed, but keep in mind that the farmers would like their crop to come out unharmed. Any damage incurred will come out of your pocket.

• Prompt F: A new acting troupe have established themselves in Verens, with a few new aspiring actors from Shaarnath. Through the use of Dunamis, the plays have become more lively and interactive. Most have welcomed them, but there are some groups who adhere to the "classic" way of acting, which can cause some tension.

  • The troupe are advertising themselves on various street corners and parks, all dressed in bright, colorful clothing! But instead of a regular play, they are beckoning others to join them in various impromptu acts. Action, comedy, romance, tragedy—anything goes! So what do you say, care to join? You can even pull in or shove the person next to you forward instead. Remember to put some feeling into it! Bonus: The scene may require some dunamis for prop work. Try it out!

  • Perhaps you're one of the people siding with the classic actors. Or maybe you just don't like plays in general. There's a bucket of tomatoes just waiting to be thrown. Even better, the angrier you are, the more rotten and sour the fruit will be.

Feel free to combine the scenarios and add whatever you'd like.

• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include peanut butter and/or jelly.

For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!

[ There was that bizarre happiness coming from him again. Why the hell was-- ... whatever. Trying to figure out this timeline business was pointless right now. There's a brief, but present cold feeling that very quickly passes through the connection before he responds. Unintentional, but having someone he doesn't know react so positively to him for what he sees as "no good reason" is snapping that immediate push-back out there, even if it's brief. ]

Never ignore directions given to you by the locals. It's just gonna lead you to asking for help a lot more than necessary. [ He learned that the hard way. That aside, seems like the kid needs a partner for this. He could just let him figure out how to work with a non-reploid, but well, Axl's still getting used to this place, and Zero already responded. So-- ] ... Hmph. Guess I've got nothing else going on right now ... Where are you?

[For the most part Axl ignores the sudden chill -- Zero has his own issues, and he knows this Zero isn't the exact same Zero he knows. But it's still Zero all the same, and a few missing years wasn't going to change his admiration of the older Reploid.]

Lesson learned. I won't be making that mistake again. [At least Axl picks up on things quickly, right? Joy comes through the connection again at Zero's reply.] I'm at a little village close by to Verens. They were setting up a maze for kids in one of the cornfields here. Here, I got the coordinates.

[And Axl sends a small data packet through the Hunters' channels with the coordinate info.]

[ who you calling old you lil shit ... Well. At least he's a quick learner. That's appreciated. Enough so that Axl won't be getting another icy push-back at that admiration coming in from his end again. This time, at least, but hey! Baby steps.

Still, even knowing Axl's supposed to be a Hunter too, Zero's still a bit surprised when he receives an incoming data ping from the other. ... Or maybe it's because it's quite literally been
months since he had anything like that happen. Well, at least he'd get used to that quickly again. ]

... Got it. Heading over now.

[ And Zero certainly meant now. Axl will be seeing that red and white beam of light zipping through the sky and landing nearby in the next few minutes. ]

[bro you're like one of the oldest reploids ok i can call you old you old timer Axl's face splits into a grin at the incoming beam of light. It sure was weird to see him in his old armor, but he wasn't complaining.]

Hey Zero! [Was he glowing a bit? Maybe.

The cornfield was half prepared for the maze, but there were a few signs of Axl's failures, namely the few destroyed corn stalks near where the two were standing. There was no sign of the bugs Axl was supposed to be rounding up.

[ Something something damn rookie kids blah blah why do these types keep finding him etc. Zero looks vaguely annoyed for a variety of reasons, some not even related to Axl, though it's probably easier to say he looks "the same as always" all things considered. ]

Axl. [ About as standard a greeting as it gets, though he's fairly quick to turn his head towards the damage done to those stalks. ... And then his eyes toward Axl for a few moments, before closing them and sighing. At least it's only a few ... ] ... Really hope that wasn't your best shot, kid.

[ ... That was probably not intentional. Regardless, given he can't seem to pick up on any movement from those bugs anywhere nearby-- ]

Are the targets still around?

[Look if you didn't give off senpai jerk with a heart of gold vibes maybe you wouldn't attract shounen protag types!! And Axl's been with Zero long enough to tell he was annoyed, probably at him. Sorry, Axl doesn't mean to annoy him.

His grin turns sheepish.
]

Of course not! Just... ignore that. That was a miscalculation. Definitely not my best shot.

[He moves to cover Zero's view of that particular spot -- though it looks like the elder Hunter was already focusing on the task at hand. Immediately, Axl adopts a professional attitude and a straight posture. (Something Zero took great pains to instill in him after he'd been accepted into the Hunters. Not that this Zero would know.)]

They're good at hiding so you can't see them right now. According to the locals, they feed off emotion, so we can draw them out using our emotions as bait. The problem is, they can also tell through our emotions that we're targeting them, which lets them escape before we have a chance at capturing them.

[Axl draws out the special gun he'd been given for this task and holds it out to Zero.]

To avoid destroying the field, the locals gave me this gun to capture the bugs. I'm sure if we avoid harming their crops, killing them is also acceptable, but...

[He'll leave that choice to Zero. The locals didn't say he couldn't kill them, just that he couldn't use any sort of pesticide (whatever that was).]

[ he's going to need to open a daycare for all these damn shounens if this keeps up ... Axl please, standing in front of those burned stalks doesn't make them go away, Zero wasn't activated an hour ago. Sheesh. Though, there are some definite pluses to be had with Axl acting professional on a dime. Really, it sort of reminds him of his end goal with someone else he's currently mentoring on and off ...

... Hmph. Well, at least someone seems to have trained this kid before he got here. That saves Zero some time.

When Axl holds the gun out to Zero, he takes it briefly to look it over, handing it back not too long after. Axl's the gun user here, so it's better that he be the one to use it in this situation
. ]

It's too easy for us to cause collateral damage trying to wipe 'em out, so stick to what they gave you. [ ... ] ... I've got a better idea of how this place works, so I'll draw them out myself. Just don't make any other "miscalculations" while I'm doing it, got it? Otherwise ...

[ Bugs will be the least of his issues, for starters. Though, he doesn't sound terribly serious with his "threat". More like light warning. Or teasing. ... Or still getting on his case about causing minor damage already. It's kind of a crapshoot. ]

[personal profile] sclasscopycat 2016-09-24 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Shh he knows that just let him do it ok.

Axl keeps the gun at hand, since they would soon be moving to capture the bugs.
]

Hey, it was only one time! I promise I won't screw up this time! Geez...

[It's harder to tell with this version of Zero whether or not he was teasing. Not that Axl would have responded any differently if it had been an actual warning. You can't take the casual out of this kid]
