TEST DRIVE: AUGUST

— TEST DRIVE: AUGUST —

Welcome to [community profile] empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

  • Date reminders. Reserves open Monday, July 25 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Sunday, August 1st.

  • OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are currently allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.

  • Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.

  • Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.

  • Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.

  • First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!

PROMPTS

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...

• Prompt D: EVENT SPECIAL. Feel free to check out Light of Helisium beach party and use the prompts from there! It ranges from standard fare beach fun to the major highlight of the year: Verenthian Warrior. It's like the extreme Ninja Warrior obstacle course but with a twist. There are also giant crabs that may or may not be set loose. Alternatively, maybe you'd prefer the masquerade side of things. A chance to pretend to be someone you're not and perhaps find romance.

• Prompt E: IT'S A BUNNY INVASION! Driven out by the gophers that have swarmed the fields, the bunnies have turned toward the city for food. And as luck would have it, many of the farmers are also transporting their crop to the city storehouses for safekeeping due to aforementioned gopher problem. One of the wagons carrying large crates full of carrots and lettuce has turned over, and those bunnies are just swarming all over the place. Oh, but you can't kill them. The Wildlife Society is encouraging more humane methods. They are: crates made out of cushions, pillow traps, carrot costumes to act as bait, and a special ocarina that is said to help attract the rabbits. The ocarina may or may not help depending on the tune played and may actually make them angrier.

• Prompt F: There's a new popular game in town where two people work together to get through a specially designed maze. One person goes through the maze while the other is standing on a platform above, using telepathy to give directions. The catch? The maze is completely dark and the one going through it only has floating ball of light to help illuminate their path. The one giving directions has a clear view at least, so it's up to them to get their partner out. What makes the maze "fun" is that there are various "traps" and obstacles in the maze. Nice partners will help their friend avoid them. The trolls, however... Well if they'd like to see their partner get splashed with paint, hit with pillows, or have random costumed "creatures" pop out to scare the crap out of them, that's an option, too.

• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include fake explosives and/or jars of hot wax.

For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!

[The...kids?] What-

[He stares at her unable to help it and finally looks away to study the far wall. He'd seen the one from... his perspective but there are more? It makes sense. Maybe he needs to have a very, very nasty conversation with Enoshima. He raises his head.] No.

The Future Foundation did, by my own choice according what I can remember. Ah, this brings me to a bit of a warning. Enoshima is here. Not just Enoshima, the original version. While mostly unable to affect much of the city...it's just something to note since she tries to drag us all down into dirt crusted rat hole of despair just because she can.

[He almost snarls Junko's name. Almost. If he actually did somewhere that witch of despair would glee over it.] Anyway, we're holding up others. Will you guide me through?

I won't suggest the reverse.

glad to be here!! i was interested in apping here so i'm testing the waters \o/

Future Foundation... [ She repeats without thinking, her mind immediately shifting to her brother and Fukawa. It isn't as though she has a bad opinion of the organization, what with two of her closest people being members, but try as she might, she can't come up with a reason as to why they would erase memories or why Komaeda would want his memory erased in the first place. Though, she supposes it's better if she didn't understand; it's none of her business, and his next set of words is more important. ]

I-I see, so Enoshima-san is here as well... [ She's by no means unfamiliar with the name, having heard it from Fukawa, her brother, and even the Warriors of Hope numerous times. However, her knowledge of Junko Enoshima has only been from hearsay; she doesn't have a physical description of the girl whatsoever, other than Fukawa mentioning her...notable bust size, as if that description is helpful in deducing someone's identity, so it's hard for her to watch out for a person she's never met before in her life. ] I'll, um, try to avoid her.

[ "Try" being the operative word. She wants to ask him what the girl looks like, but he does have a point - this is no place for them to be discussing this when there's a line of people behind them impatient to play the game. She'll save it for later, she supposes, as she doesn't want to misguide him while her mind's wracked with things she doesn't understand. ] Oh! Um, yeah, I'll guide you. Don't worry. [ She makes her way up the platform and figures it'll be easier to open up a telepathic link between them. She's still getting the hang of it, but there's no way to get better than trying, so she does just that. ]

H-Hello? Um...can you hear me okay? I don't know if I did this right...
eyeswideopen: (Ah)

If you got any questions or anything I'll answer them the best I can!

[personal profile] eyeswideopen 2016-07-19 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I can hear you. Ah, if we get anything wrong. Don't worry about it! This is a safe game.

[Komaeda takes the left path away from the platform. He reaches for the ball of radiant light passing in a circle around him and feeds his emotional energy into it. It glows a soft silver, correcting the slight tint that made it difficult to see clear details at the edges of the glow. Good.]

Oh and before I forget. While we're playing you can ask me whatever you want.
omaru: official sprite (SPRITE ► um...)

Since it'll probably be too lengthy for the subject line, I'll PM you, if that's okay?

[personal profile] omaru 2016-07-20 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That's reassuring to know. The puzzles that the kids put her through always had a risk factor involved - get it wrong and be attacked by Monokumas. She hasn't played a safe game in forever, so it eases her nerves slightly to know that, were she to mess up, she wouldn't be putting him in danger. Strange as he was, she didn't want him to get hurt, especially on her behalf. ]

Ah, okay. [ Now's the perfect time for her to inquire more about Enoshima. ] I-I know you might not want to talk about her, but...about Enoshima-san...um, what exactly does she look like? I don't know much about her at all except for the fact that she's behind The Tragedy, and that those kids viewed her as a big sister figure...

[ She can't even begin to imagine what Enoshima would look like, but if she was as formidable as everyone said she was, then she had to look the part, right? ]
eyeswideopen: (Blue screen.)

Totally okay. Pm whenever you want.

[personal profile] eyeswideopen 2016-07-20 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's a reasonable question. He doesn't like discussing Enoshima but, if this girl doesn't know what she looks like how can she avoid her?]

How utterly vile of her, though I'm hardly surprised. Give me a moment and I'll show you what she looks like.

[In no time at all, the blonde haired constantly shifting her expression as she pleases, Junko Enoshima is projected for Komaru to see.]

That's her. Ah, where do I need to go next? It's too dark to see from my perspective.
omaru: official sprite (SPRITE ► headtilt.)

Will do!

[personal profile] omaru 2016-07-22 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ For a moment, she's surprised when the projection shows. The girl she sees before her...is not the type of person she was expecting for a mastermind to be, not at all. She almost looks like a normal high school girl...were it not for the fact that she was culpable for their world being the way it currently was, and the fact she seemed to be changing personalities. She almost wonders if she's like Fukawa and Syo in that regard - she still doesn't quite understand how those two work, so she knows she's probably off the mark. Still, she can't help but wonder how someone who looked like a normal, harmless teenage girl could bring about all that despair...but she'll get to that question after she guides him. ]

Oh, right, sorry! Go left next, and keep going straight until you reach a crossroads, then go right.

[ Probably not the best idea to play this game and ask questions, seeing as she gets distracted easily, but hey, he gave her permission to. ]

That's her? I mean, not that I'm doubting you, but...she's not exactly how I envisioned a mastermind to look.

[personal profile] eyeswideopen 2016-07-22 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[He strides through the maze with his mind half on it. Not a good idea and his master would smack him upside the head for being so distracted. But his head is too full of things he will likely ask Enoshima about later. Just as likely to get stabbed for it.]

You've seen how I look now. Before she got her claws on me and ripped up what was inside until that thing was all that was left. Do I look like the sort of person that would be that disgustingly, unrepentingly obsessed with crafting wars in the interest of birthing hope?

[He can admit that's not a fair comparison. Considering he could at the drop of the hat seem very crazy. It wouldn't take any effort. He pauses at the crossroads.]

Ah, let me try a better example. In movies and books, the villian is obvious. It's not like that in a mystery novel. With a good narrative you never know who it is until they strike. It's a lot like that.

Done! o/

[personal profile] omaru 2016-07-22 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ...The answer to his question is "yes," but to be fair, that's the only impression she's ever had of him. It's only now that she's seeing a different side to him, one that wasn't determined to project his views on hope onto her and transform her into something she wasn't, all because he couldn't witness her brother defeating the woman he said he hated.

She at least doesn't admit as much to him. ]

Well, I don't really read mystery novels... [ Not the point, Komaru. ] ...but I guess I get what you're saying. A true villain doesn't let their true colors show until it's too late to stop them, right?
eyeswideopen: (You're forgetting something.)

Hope that helped! \o/

You're half right. I'm saying in real life, people are complicated. What is good or, bad can blend together so seamlessly we don't realize where the line is drawn. Enoshima understands this. It's why she's so effective at what she does. The most screwed up thing about her is you can have perfectly reasonable conversations with her.

[He has had more than a few of those. It makes him sick to his stomach to think about it. He reaches out to the lightball and taps it, channeling more of his hopes into it. It flares with light like a small lantern to illuminate further down the path.]

And that is why she has you. People want to open up to someone who seems to understand them. It's interesting to me.
omaru: official sprite (SPRITE ► um...)

It did, thanks! c: also sorry for the late tag!

[personal profile] omaru 2016-07-25 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's...kinda scary when you think about it...

[ With that explanation, she completely understands why Enoshima is considered to be so formidable. If she was able to manipulate someone without them even realizing, she was truly dangerous and definitely someone that Komaru should avoid by all means now that she knows what she looks like. She remembers when she was deluded into thinking that Fukawa was using her all along; who knows what would happen if someone actually was doing that? ]

For someone to be able to manipulate someone without them even knowing...it's really scary.

[ But she shouldn't focus on that right now. So long as she's cautious, hopefully she won't run into any problems. ]

Um...at the end of that hall, tell me what you see. It looks like it's a dead end, but I don't see any other possible places to go, so...it's probably a puzzle of some sort.
