Welcome to empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

• Date reminders. Reserves open Monday, July 25 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Sunday, August 1st.
  
  
• OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are currently allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
  
  
• Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
  
  
• Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
  
  
• Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
  
  
• First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!


PROMPTS

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?


• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.


• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...


• Prompt D: EVENT SPECIAL. Feel free to check out Light of Helisium beach party and use the prompts from there! It ranges from standard fare beach fun to the major highlight of the year: Verenthian Warrior. It's like the extreme Ninja Warrior obstacle course but with a twist. There are also giant crabs that may or may not be set loose. Alternatively, maybe you'd prefer the masquerade side of things. A chance to pretend to be someone you're not and perhaps find romance.


• Prompt E: IT'S A BUNNY INVASION! Driven out by the gophers that have swarmed the fields, the bunnies have turned toward the city for food. And as luck would have it, many of the farmers are also transporting their crop to the city storehouses for safekeeping due to aforementioned gopher problem. One of the wagons carrying large crates full of carrots and lettuce has turned over, and those bunnies are just swarming all over the place. Oh, but you can't kill them. The Wildlife Society is encouraging more humane methods. They are: crates made out of cushions, pillow traps, carrot costumes to act as bait, and a special ocarina that is said to help attract the rabbits. The ocarina may or may not help depending on the tune played and may actually make them angrier.


• Prompt F: There's a new popular game in town where two people work together to get through a specially designed maze. One person goes through the maze while the other is standing on a platform above, using telepathy to give directions. The catch? The maze is completely dark and the one going through it only has floating ball of light to help illuminate their path. The one giving directions has a clear view at least, so it's up to them to get their partner out. What makes the maze "fun" is that there are various "traps" and obstacles in the maze. Nice partners will help their friend avoid them. The trolls, however... Well if they'd like to see their partner get splashed with paint, hit with pillows, or have random costumed "creatures" pop out to scare the crap out of them, that's an option, too.


• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include fake explosives and/or jars of hot wax.

A-ish: Making My Way Downtown

[It's been about a week since he's arrived in this world, and Gundam Tanaka is still undergoing the process of understanding and accepting his surroundings.

It might be easy to pick out the sight of a relatively new person walking the streets, especially with how... unusual this particular teenager looks. Even more eye-catching are this fellow's your guides: a pack of four hamsters that are trotting down the road in front of him. They seem like ordinary hamsters, but the teenager sounds as if he's in the middle of an engaging conversation with them.]

Yes, thanks to you I am getting a better lay of the land. [Yes, it's likely that several human people have tried to guide him around already.] Keheheh... Now, my Dark Devas, where will you guide me next?!

[But he does seem subtly happy as he follows them. A light smirk has crossed his face, and a gentle wind blows by them.]

D: Masquerade Ball

[Gundam Tanaka has only decided to attend this ball because of what he heard about the rule of anonymity. After all, such a rule seemed like a good caution for the sake of evading attacks by any potential kotodama users that could be lying in wait.

He is wearing his normal attire with the addition of one (1) hamster mask, while his four Dark Devas have tiny clothes that resemble miniature versions of Gundam's attire.

During the actual festivities, he acts as a wallflower as he surveys the dance floor and proclaims dramatic statements to no one in particular.]

Such fools... Not a single one of you will ever understand my true name, let alone my ways!

E: Battle of the Bunnies

[Gundam's got this. He seems to be using a combination of the ocarina and some food pellets that he had on hand to gather the rabbits. In fact, they seem to be facing off with his four devas and doing little dances together.

In between ocarina songs, Gundam overlooks them with a pleased smile and a proud laugh.]

Marvelous! You are all such splendid creatures!

[But what is his true goal with these rabbits?]

F: Tales to A-Maze

[Okay, so it's maze time! Somehow, the following unfortunate events have occurred: (a) your partner is Gundam Tanaka, and (b) he is the one guiding you. As he opens up telepathic communications, it's possible that he's not sounding as smug as he possibly can, but it's hard to tell for sure.]

Fuhahaha! You fool! Do you have any idea whose hands your fate has been placed within?! By this trial's end, I swear that you will learn to fear the name of this world's future ruler, Gundam Tanaka!

[Feel free to come up with your own prompt! The crab battle could be good for him too.]

[ He has a contract with Tanaka, sure, but that doesn't mean he wants to walk the path of anything... ]

You will never transcend your status if you think like that! Nor will you receive a path to pass onwards!

Whoa, scary! The future ruler of the world? Hey, is it too late to back out?

[There's some exaggerated panic here from Junko. In reality, she's not too worried about it. There's tons of weird people in this world, and most of them aren't dangerous. Gundam probably isn't exception. Of course, some of those weird people are also Junko, so it's kind of a mixed bag.

But she'll be nice and mostly play along with his weirdness. It's no fun if you throw things like that out there and nobody reacts properly, she definitely knows a thing or two about that one.]

I guess it is since I'm already in here, huh?

[hamnation]

[Ah, just the reaction he hoped for. Whoever this person is, he's sure that she would be ideal as an unwitting pawn.]

That is correct! You cannot turn back from your fate, no matter how hard you may try!

Yet the hand of the Supreme Overlord of Ice may still spare you yet! If you solve my riddles to clear this maze, then you will only grow more fearsome!

[Yeah, you know, if she emerges from this maze as a more fearsome being, she's definitely going to let everyone know that they have Gundam Tanaka to thank for it.]

All right, I can't turn back, so that's your way of telling me to go forward, right?

[She'll take a step forward into the darkness. If she were the type she'd hope to not smack into an invisible wall, but if it happens, it happens.]

So what's next, Mr. Overlord of Ice?

You have spoken correctly! Keep moving forward and you will soon reach that first branch!

[He's feeling suspiciously like the butt of a joke. He likes being mocked about as much as the next person. There's a faint growl of thunder from his end.]

This isn't what I had in mind when I agreed to work with you. No helping it. Whenever you're ready.

[This is likely a big mistake. Probably a huge one. But, whatever turn his luck is taking, he'll deal with it.]

[hamnation]

[Komaeda, that troublesome fiend... Gundam feels that he may enjoy putting him through the ringer!]

Hmph... I have been prepared for an event before I even came to this world! You should count yourself lucky to have such a guide.

Begin walking at your leisure! You have some time before you reach the first branch of fate!

Only amateurs consider this lucky.

[Komaeda walks slowly as his ball of light bobs in front of him to illuminate only the immediate area. He'd promised not to use Dunamis or focus on his more light-show like emotions to cheat.

Well. At least he knows how to self heal if it comes to that.]

You would do well to mind your tongue...!

[That accursed lucky student.]

Now, I will allow you to choose your path. Would you rather travel to the River Styx, or to the Bermuda Triangle?

E, unlike the rest of these losers

[The sound of the music has grabbed the attention of the princess. She's followed it from the main roads all the way to where she finds a familiar face. To see him with animals is so fitting, so like him that she claps her hands together softly as she watches him charm the creatures.

And she can't help that her heart skips a tiny beat, making an audible sound that surprises even her. It's like the tinkling of shattered glass.

She gasps, a hand going to cover her mouth.]

Ah! Forgive me, Tanaka-san! I was just watching you with the rabbits. I didn't mean to interrupt.

[hamnation]

[Ah, an additional member to their audience. Gundam looks as severe as ever, although there might be some slight tugging of the corners of his lips as he faces her. And he raises one hand in a stopping motion while he lowers the ocarina in his other.]

It is of no concern. These beasts have already formed a contract with me! And no interruption can compromise that. In fact, a witness is very welcome, for history in the making!

[If it had been anyone else, she could assume annoyance, but even after months apart, she can read the minute changes in his body language and see that he isn't displeased to have her here.

Which makes her treacherous skip another beat, audibly.

Turning her eyes from his face to the crowd of fluffy, adorable animals, she can tell that the are in awe of her classmate. It's fitting, extremely fitting.]

I am glad to be of service in this momentous occasion. Is there anything that you require from me? Perhaps some photographic mementos? I am sure that I can find someone around here with a camera to do the honors.

Kyaaa!!

[ While someone might have taken the bunny-whisperer ability there's someone else who is a lot less useful when it comes to animals. So much so that amongst a stampede of them as they run to line up in front of Gundam like a tiny furry army they manage to somehow bowl down a innocent bystander.

Leaving Mikan tied up in her own bandages on the ground, with a terrible fanservice CG that probably will get cut from the international version of this tag. ]

[hamnation]

[That's a very familiar shriek, and Gundam comes across her while he's trying to seek out the missing bunnies. He quickly averts his eyes from the sight before he can be flustered, and he doesn't exactly have intentions of helping her up.]

You fiend! Did you frighten those gentle creatures? [He's just going to try to ignore the fanservice.]

[pleaseforgiveme]

[ Rude. Not helping a girl up when she clearly managed to do this to herself to gain sympathy is like hella rude. ]

I-I didn't, I swear! I just fell and they got all tangled up in my bandages...

[ Surely there's at least someone around who feels bad for her. ]

I'm sorry! If you want to step in my to make sure I learn my lesson you can step anywhere but my face!

[Hiroko's seen a lot in her time. She's not even that much of a stranger to rather...quirky teenage behaviour, but even Yasuhiro had never arrived home by trailing in the wake of animals small enough to easily be trodden on.

And heck, maybe those little hamsters might know their way to somewhere interesting. Not like she knows the place well enough to want to pass up a chance to learn a little more. Which is why she ends up falling somewhat into step with Gundam, a genuine offer of company couched in much more playful tones.]

So, is there a charge for this tour or do we get to hop on and off as we want?

[Of course, the Dark Devas know better than to do something as foolish as to allow themselves to be trampled. One of them glances back as the woman approaches, but all of them keep moving forward, including the human.

Gundam addresses the woman without looking directly at her, with his arms crossed and a confident smirk on his face.]

Keheheh... If you are thinking of this as something as trivial and pedestrian as a mere mortal 'tour', then you are sorely mistaken! The truth is not for the faint of heart, I admit...

[He pauses for dramatic effect before he continues.]

No, this is a tour of the damned! Tread carefully, or the toll may be your very soul! [A beat, then added in a relatively normal-sounding voice:] Specially-prepared food pellets are also acceptable.

Tour of the damned, huh?

[She's doing her best to humour him, though she's not quite fully masking the amusement in her tone. It's a line she's walked along enough before to know where the edge of what she can probably get away with is, and it's a safe bet she won't have to tweak too much here.

Heck, she's taking the last part to mean she can bribe him with food if worst comes and she's definitely done that before.

But for now, she'll play along with the dramatics.]

Well, guess I don't gotta worry too much about that. Probably damned myself plenty of times already so what's one more?

[And heck, if isolation and then becoming a target for a stupid but dangerous kids' game hasn't killed her, not to mention her rather colourful past, she can't be too scared of a simple walk-around even in a world she doesn't know so well.]

[Congratulations Gundam, you've run into one of the few people who doesn't see anything weird about a teenage boy walking around with a small team of hamsters. He merely nods as they pass and continues on his way.

His nonchalance might have something to do with the five-foot-tall blue platypus following him, which stops to give the teenager and his entourage a curious look. Those certainly don't feel like Pokemon.]

[hamnation]

[Such a platypus does catch Gundam's eye. He motions for his dark devas to stop as he turns to face the other boy. Despite the stranger having already come to a stop, Gundam holds up his hand and shouts out.]

Halt, in the name of Pandaemonium!

[Then, he narrows his eyes as he glances between the boy and his duck.]

...So, you've formed a contract with a familiar. I wondered when I would come across a true warlock in this world!

[tealtrainer]

[Blue is also familiar with his share of odd ducks, but that greeting definitely tops the list. He folds his arms over his chest and cocks his head to one side as he turns to face the other boy.]

...what are you talking about?

[He'd already heard about (and seen a few) people who could do actual, no fooling magic even before they came to this place - maybe this guy came from a world like that?]

He's a Pokemon. There's nothing magic about him.

[It can communicate telepathically and create water from nothing, but sure, totally not magic. Where he comes from, it's science (possibly with the exclamation point at the end).]
