IC TL;DR meme!
I think traditionally I'm supposed to put some kind of amusing yet relevant picture here, so, uh...

I'm really not sure how that's relevant but that's what you get.
1. Leave a blank comment for your characters!
2. Respond to other people's blank comments!
3. They respond with a long and rambly speech analyzing what their character thinks of your character!
4. Discussion happens???

Gaius. Hoo boy where to begin. So according to the Alvin Chronicles, he saw Gaius take down his entire unit and was spared. But since that day, he knew the man was not to be trifled with, so being able to work as a double-triple-quadruple (seriously Alvin how many times) agent for him was definitely toeing a few lines even he was probably wary about. But all for returning to Elympios and his mother and all that. So from the very get go, Gaius was always a powerful and downright intimidating man and one he knew he should never cross. He also held some respect and probably some admiration for that determination and conviction, something that Alvin himself did not really had (if you exclude his own personal goals, and even then he has his doubts and is more or less doing it rather than having any real motivation behind it if that makes sense). But those some reasons are probably things he didn't like Gaius. That kind of, "You irritate me because you remind me of what I can't be" sort of deal. It's a complicated matter and fortunately that's less so now.
So cut to after Xillia 1 to Xillia 2. Things are (obviously and less obviously) a bit more relaxed, likely due to both of their developments. Alvin still thinks him as powerful and definitely the king he earned his right to be, but he's not fearful of him...well he is, but not overtly if that makes sense. Despite the respect he holds for Gaius, Alvin
is stupidhad never been really one to give his full loyalty or devotion to any one person. He'll follow them, sure, and he'll support and back them up. He can be an ally. But that's the thing—he still keeps that distance. And it's that distance that is probably what allows him to be more casual and laidback toward Gaius. Like to everyone in the cast, he serves as the potential fall guy and puts himself at risk in trying to ease up and be more normal. He has that odd third person view toward Gaius since he's also willing to point out flaws or inconsistencies, especially since he is that "guy from the other side," which just increases that sense of distance. Like back when Gaius first proposed the government, although Alvin agreed with Gaius' general idea, he did not hesitate to point out the flaws to it and what other people might think. He does prefer the "Erston" persona over Gaius at least for social situations. Having been one to shuffle through his own fair share of masks and personas (and probably still trying to figure out who he really is and what he tried to project to hide his vulnerabilities), Alvin also knows what it's like to live that way. It's probably why he thinks it better if Gaius melded the two, since really their both him (well in his opinion, anyway). Plus he's in a different world. Just ease up man. In their own world Alvin probably wouldn't care as much or be as "nosey" but since they are basically like an extended family unit now...welp.
tl;dr Gaius you're one scary ass motherfucker that he wouldn't want to mess with in a fight, but you're also someone he respects and trusts and wouldn't mind seeing loosened up so yo we need to get that drink soon

But yes, he is a 'scary ass motherfucker'. Please imagine that in Gaius' voice. Please. It will make you happy. However, he's aware he has a 'true self' and that Ludger is the one that brings it out. It's somewhere in there, but it is neither Gaius or Erston. Alvin may try to bring it out. It will probably end up with a bad end, lbr.
