There are a lot of things Kevin actually likes about Kai. She's completely transparent, for one thing. He never has to wonder what she's thinking because she's probably going to tell him what she's thinking whether she intends to or not. Her massive ego is amusing, he respects her fighting skills, and she's easy to bully. All he has to do to see her go nuts is see to it that someone calls her beautiful, and quite frankly it's probably never going to get old. Prime teasing material, right here. She also never seems to take it personally if he turns bitchy and snipes at her, which is something that reassures him a lot. He doesn't feel like he has to walk on tiptoe around her, because she seems to get that if he's in a mood, it's probably not actually directed at her.

But there are also days when he really can't stand her. She's loud as hell, she likes to drag him out into the world whether he wants to go or not, and sometimes he just doesn't have the energy to deal with how intensely herself she is. She's a vibrant and energetic person, which is not so great to deal with when you really just want to crawl in a hole and stay there for a year or so.

What all of this adds up to is that Kai has essentially become Kevin's obnoxious little sister -- he has a deep and genuine fondness for her and appreciates having her around, but this includes being a brat to her for his own amusement and occasional bouts of "ew get away". The upside to this it that Kevin actually has an extremely big brother sort of personality, so although she gets a brat who likes to heckle her, she also gets a knight who'll always watch out for her, make an honest effort to comfort her if she is sad even if all he can do is provide stupid distractions, and beat up anybody who looks at her wrong. Not because he doesn't think she can do it herself, mind. He knows she can. But that's what big brothers do. They beat up the people who look at their sisters wrong.

Not that Kevin is aware he's thinking any of that, mind. He's too dumb to have made it that far yet.

Does not compute. We'll just have to throw them in a situation where he'd be overprotective valiant on her behalf sometime and let them figure it out.
