She thinks he's kind of dumb (there are no Arehtei living in the lake... probably.)

but he has magic and he knows how to use it. He looks like a kid so she can let brattiness/stupid thoughts/etc slide, even if she'll still point it out and tease about them--compared to if he looked like an adult anyway, where she'd just be completely no holds barred about JUST how stupid she thought they were being.
