Player Plot: Extreme Measures
Heya hi folks! This is Xae and Althea bringing you one shake up player plot!
Machina and Velvet are teaming up on a campaign to kill the Arehtei. For reasons of their own, similar but not identical. We've been working for weeks with the mod team to come up with a viable way to make this plot work without totally wrecking the game.
So here's the breakdown: On August 20th, Machina and Velvet are going to launch an attack on Sosyne because she's easy to get to. Velvet will have cronies on hand as backup. Machina will have sentries salvaged and refurbished from Brinndosi to stop any Do-Gooders that want to interfere. Sosyne will put out an all call for aid and from there, it'll be a free-for-all smash up, bash up melee battle for the history books!
There will be options for participation that hopefully will encompass as many players as possible. Playing along is wholly voluntary based on your interest. However, there is one minor blip in place: For the duration of the attack, all characters aligned with Sosyne will experience their amulet burning, but be unable to take it off. Don't worry, it'll just be that one day.
Now for the options:
Option #1: Face Velvet head on, one-on-one. This option is open to any and all heroes, fight nuggets, and people who otherwise have a deathwish. Players electing to fight the Lord of Calamity need to be advised that she will have a field of malevolence that can affect the surrounding area with negative emotions and therefore may have an impact on other characters who get too close For any who are extremely susceptible to such influences such as individuals who are more attuned to the light and dark side of things, it might have a bigger consequence. It may also have an impact on animals brought within range, though them turning into a daemon will be unlikely. She will be using her daemon claw to fight but will not be using it to consume other players as that usually results in their death no matter how little she uses it in that manner.
Option #2: Face Machina head on, one-on-one. This option also open to any and all Do Good sorts who want to test their mettle against a l'Cie demigod. Players electing to take on Machina as Incognitus should be advised that there will be a field of apathy surrounding him. Apathy effects will be in place, including holes opening up, emotion magic fizzling out, lethargy, emotion drops burning off amulets... y'know, the standard fare. In addition, don't bring your favorite weapons to this fight. He can and will manipulate them, but more than likely just disable/break them to make his life easier. Because he's a brat like that.
Option #3: Face Velvet's cronies including Rokurou and her NPC pirates. A great option for anyone wanting to get their fight on but not wanting to take on the instigators of this chaos. Also a good option because the sidelines fights will serve as a distraction from what Velvet and Machina went there to do in the first place.
Option #4: Take down the sentries. Machina's repaired and enhanced the sentries you saw in Brinndosi. Five of them have been salvaged. Players wanting to engage them to clear a path for defenders or support characters should be advised that they now only shoot real lasers. And that they're now doubled in attack and defense. They will need to be destroyed and not just disabled, or Machina will jolt them back up to working order. Please don't let him do this. Seriously. This is another great option for players who don't feel they could/would take on the troublemakers but want to do their part to stop them.
Option #5: JOIN IN ON THE MURDER SQUAD! So Machina and Velvet have their reasons for taking on an Arehtei and it has a lot to do with not wanting to have anyone else they care about sent home. They're also seriously fed up with the emotions screwing people over. If your character likewise has such motivations and no moral objections to an attempted assassination, feel free to sign up to be fighting for the side of murder. Or maybe just help because you like them. ...does anyone like them? o_O
Option #6: SUPPORT CLASS. This option is open to players whose strength lies in shielding/defense/heals. A subthread will be posted for any characters who want to focus solely on support and not on combat. Support can also come by sending positive emotions through the amulet to Sosyne directly, regardless of alignment.
NO AREHTEI WILL BE MURDERED DURING THIS PLOT.
There is a failsafe built into the plot with mod approval to prevent the loss of Sosyne to hotheads picking fights. However! The plan is to allow the players to save the day and put a stop to this nefarious plan without executing the failsafe, if at all possible. To make that happen, we need YOU the players to sign up and get involved! (Though we’re requesting everyone to pick their poison and either engage Machina or Velvet, but not both with the same character. Our inboxes and wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey thanks you.)
The outcome of the plot will be determined by a points system. Points will be assigned based on player involvement; once a particular number is reached, the Outworlders will win. Anyone fighting against Velvet, Machina, or their sideline distractions will award one point towards Sosyne. Anyone opting to fight along with them will award one point to the assassins. The cutoff for success or failure will be secret, but for points to be awarded a fighter/defender/support must tag at least twice in their respective thread. Points will be tallied at midnight on August 30th, with the end result announced on August 31st.
