Brinndosi, Land of Hubris

—BRINNDOSI, LAND OF HUBRIS: MAIN DETAILS & PLOTTING—

Along with Peromei's announcement, it's time to release the details of this month's event! The event will be separated into two major parts and a finale, with the excursion's first log posted on Wednesday, June 20th. Thanks to everyone for their patience, and we hope you enjoy!

» BASICS

Timeline & Logs: The event will be comprised of four posts total, and the schedule is on a 1:1 time scale of IC:OOC, with the following calendar:

  • 6/18: Peromei's Call: The prologue. Peromei alerts the island and asks for help, with preparation beginning shortly after. Any questions for Peromei specifically regarding the event may be asked here!

  • 6/20: Electric Dreams: After departing from Verens on the 19th, the excursion begins with this log, and characters and NPCs make their way to Brinndosi to search for this object, as directed by Peromei.

  • 6/25: Crumbled Hopes: As characters work their way through the structure, they may eventually find their way deeper than expected...

  • 6/27: Event Finale: Although the finale post will not have any extra prompts, players will be free to use it for any reactions and traveling home!

Opt-in & Random Arrival: Although this event is OOCly opt-in, there will be opportunities to have characters who would not willingly go on the excursion to be involved. Experimental teleportation technology inside the structure at Brinndosi will be bringing in characters at random, meaning anyone who would not have an IC reasoning for their character to leave with the airships can still participate! This will be occurring until the end of the event, so you may have your character teleport in at any point. However, after they're there...

Stuck: Once the airships arrive, the storms around Brinndosi will increase to the point that the airships will be unable to leave. Even if they didn't, the journey takes a full day and there are no plans to depart before their mission is accomplished—meaning characters will not get the opportunity to return until the event finale.

» EVENT DETAILS

Now that we know when everything is happening, it's time to get into what. Shortly after the airships land, the storms will worsen and prevent any departure for the duration of the event. Peromei will be escorting characters to the location and even follow them inside using her miniature form, and she may occasionally appear to help someone along.

  • Electric Dreams - Outside: Here, characters will depart from the airships and begin to make their way through the decaying old town towards the large building on the other side. There will be opportunities to set up camp, scavenge in the oppressive acid rain for materials and food, some of which will have interesting effects, deal with hungry, grasping plants, and struggle through roads of despair-inducing tar and broken down ruins.

  • Electric Dreams - Inside: After making their way to the building, characters will find that recent lightning strikes have brought power to the high-tech complex, allowing them to travel inside. Characters will need to search for crystal keycards that will let them progress further, moving their way through, up and down collapsed passages, fighting past mechanical sentries, and taking care to deactivate any other security measures and avoid getting stuck in puddles of the same slime from outside. Along the way, they'll also get the chance to have some fun in a human centrifuge that still manages to work, though given its age, its settings may cause some chaos...

  • Crumbed Hopes - The Wreckage: After successfully locating several keys, characters will find that the attempt at a space program didn't go very far—literally. Having crashed into the cliffside, the space shuttle will provide mysterious hauntings of the former crew members, anti-gravity shielding that may malfunction and send characters flying, and grappling hooks among other supplies they can use to cross to the teleporter across the canyon.

  • Crumbed Hopes - The Temple: The true location of the object Peromei seeks, the remnants of the temple carved into the cliff are a dark and dank structure that once held a thriving community of faithful believers of the Arehtei. Although it's been long abandoned, those ancient hopes still linger in the halls, keeping it from crumbling just yet. Here characters will fight terrifying harpies, learn musical rituals, and ultimately, face their greatest dreams and fears.

  • Event Finale: However things end up, eventually the storms will subside and characters will be able to return home.

» KEY TRACKER

In order to determine the outcome of the second part of the event and exactly what characters will find, we will have a thread tracker to determine how many crystal keycards are found within the complex.

  • Key tracker: Please use the form in the linked comment to submit your threads towards this tracker! To unlock the optimal path, characters will need to find a total of 10 keycards.

In order to count for the tracker, we will require threads of 10 comments (total, not per character) towards retrieving a key through any of the obstacles described in the details above or the log itself. Note that this thread does not have to show characters retrieving a key at the time the tracker closes; it will count as long as there is sufficient effort towards finding one.

The tracker will close on Sunday, June 24th, 11:59 Central, and the outcome will be determined and posted on the 25th. Go out there and get those keys!

More information will be revealed as the event progresses, but that should be everything for now! Any questions regarding the event can be asked here, and please use this comment for your plotting needs!

So one of Kevin's dunamis skills in game is creatures made of light or shadow, which he infuses with other emotions to change their shapes and give them a bit of "sentience". At their most complex, if he puts them together with just the right combo of feelings, they'll react to and even seek out other emotions. His shadow critters in particular can sniff out things that have hope attached to them in some way -- like, if he were in a random garden and some of the flowers were infused with hope, the critter would make a beeline for those flowers. He light ones can track down people who are scared or hurting if their feelings are strong enough. This is a reflection of the way Kevin's feelings are so dependent upon the people around him, and the way he himself always instinctively reaches out when he's mired in negativity.

I don't know yet how he might use the critters in this event, but I feel like he's liable to have his critters out, just in case. Especially the ones that find sad people in the hopes of providing comfort. How would the overall atmosphere of the place affect them? Alternately, is this something I should nerf for the event, if it would make anything too easy? All I have to do is say he's not in the right mindset to make them work properly and they'll just be critters that he has to drive intentionally.

Okay, here is another question and this one is dumb -- Kevin has Ankle-Biter the carnivorous plantchild at his house and it just turned three this spring so a big part of his life is dealing with wicked-minded toddler vegetation.

...can I have him periodically getting snuck up on by one of the event plants, only to have him snap "NONE OF THAT OUT OF YOU" and so on in Dad Voice and have it actually sod off, as a running gag? This has zero value whatsoever except that it would be funny to me.

So what I'm getting out of this is that if I do this it, it'll be best if it's the same plant every time and it would be stalking him and whoever he is with incessantly throughout just one thread.
