TEST DRIVE: February
Welcome to
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
- Date reminders. Reserves open January 25th and Applications (Canon | OC) open a week later on February 1st. Apps will only be open for four days!
- OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus, those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
- Transfer to in-game. If accepted, you can assume threads made on the Test Drive happen in-game if the scenario can reasonably fit. These threads do not count toward AC.
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• Prompt D: The trade agreement between Verens and Briarlan is in full swing, with the opening of Verens’ very first radio station! As an amplitude moderation (AM) only radio station, it will focus more on news and talk shows than music. That doesn’t mean it’ll lack for education or entertainment, as home radio sets begin to be sold throughout the city. Speaking of which, as a new entertainment business installed in the city’s economy, it can offer something else to the Otherworlders: employment! And a party! Enjoy.
• Prompt E: A necessary industry of any society is beekeeping, and Verens is no different. Giant bee skeps for equally giant bees need their honey and comb collected, too. Typically, this task is handled by beekeepers and their assistants. It’s a little different this month, however; due to a significant increase in the amount of honey the bees are producing, they’ve recruited outside help. Volunteers get 70 sylvs per day of work as payment and a jar of honey as a goodwill gift.
• Prompt F: Selenium, the holiday to commemorate and remember lost and loved ones is coming up soon. It will be held in Theasthai, which requires some travel for those in Verens, but with teleporters, it should be easy to get there and get back to the city. It's not the most cheerful of events, but it seems that some of the organisers are more eccentric than traditional. It must have been why they were hired!
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include sunflowers and/or bear cubs.
Enjoy.
- Open Invitation: As soon as the new technology is installed and tested to perfection, the station organises a party to celebrate its grand opening. Invitations are distributed like fliers; in the eyes of the new station, the more party attendees, the better. Held both inside the station and on the block outside of it, there are tables upon tables of cake, cookies, passe horderves, and non-alcoholic beverages. Go ahead and mingle! Every half hour or so, the radio talk show hosts will invite someone on the outside podium to try and entertain the crowd.
- What’s Your Favourite Colour?: So, you would like to work as a radio talk show host! It’s open auditions and you’re either the person demonstrating your interviewing acumen as a potential radio jockey, or you're the person being paid 50 sylvs to allow yourself to be interviews on-air. Either way, the day certainly won’t be wasted. Feel free to improvise to your heart’s content or use a handy list of interview questions and suggestions provided by the people proctoring the auditions. There’s also cookies and juice boxes available but try not to talk with your mouth full on air.
- Five Nights at Radio Shack: Didn’t cut it as a potential radio personality? Not to worry, the station needs janitors too! Because they hire on week-long contracts, it can be considered more of a temp gig than anything--which is for the best, because the basement underneath the station is dark, vast and labyrinthine. The tasks required are mopping, dusting, taking out the garbage and bringing any equipment from the basement to the ground floor. If there are creaking noises, whispers, giggles, faint voices, all of it can be explained by natural phenomenon or radio interference piping through the walls. Those footsteps, on the other hand...
- Honey and Gather: Honey gathering! Due to the unorthodox bees, the skeps are the size of large houses with many twisting corridors and convenient openings for volunteers to enter. The task is simple: in groups of two, wander the hives, collect the comb, and let the honey drain into the buckets provided. Once the bucket is full, bring it back to the closest beekeeper’s household. Get a new bucket, rinse and repeat. Easy, right? A typical large bee is about the size of a person, with the queen being the size of a midsize car. They are friendly enough, although quite curious and prone to brief fits of territorial displays if they feel their home is being intruded upon. Good thing they’re susceptible to Dunamis!
- A Queen Imperiled: Unfortunately, opening the skeps to volunteers also makes the beekeeping industry susceptible to mischief and theft. While the worker bees were distracted by the presence of people, a group of poachers managed to get in and steal away the queen bee. Getting her back before she’s sold is imperative, and the beekeepers are willing to pay a hefty reward. Track the poachers to their hideout several few miles away, dispatch them as best you can, and bring the queen back to her people. They need her.
- Let Me Be Your Wings: Good news! Now that the queen has been rescued, she is grateful and accommodating to her saviours -- enough so that she is willing to give people a ride back to her home. There’s no need to be afraid, she’s twice as sturdy as a horse. The bad news? Her wing took an unfortunate hit during her capture and she can only make part of the journey. Hopefully whoever rescued her has a plan to transport her the rest of the way back. Ever gone bee walking? It’s a bit less agreeable than dog walking.
- The Ring: A few months ago, children (and people who looked like children) received unsigned letters and were found at a bottom of a well in the forest three days later. Investigations led Enforcers to believe that this strange phenomenon was caused by a girl named "Samantha" who passed away in the hospital years ago. In order to let Samantha's spirit enter the realm of the dead properly, the eccentric organiser for Selenium is hosting a wrestling competition at the city square. Samantha's dream was to be a pro-wrestler, and a small festival that shows sportsmanship and competition might help her find peace. Put on a body suit, enter the ring, and tackle your opponent to the ground! Of course, this may or may not be a voluntary thing. . . said organiser can be rather pushy and just shove the suit onto anybody nearby. It's for the sake of the spirits, she says!
- Wishing Stairs: One of the temples in Verens has now become a festival attraction. Booths serving small Arehtei-related trinkets can be found at the top of the stairs, and they're lined up leading to the bell at the centre of the temple. Ringing the bell will send a message to the dead, wherever they may be. It's a calling of sorts to them—a means of telling them that Selenium is coming soon and that their loved ones will be connecting with them soon. There is a catch, though. . . going up the staircase up to the temple is a bit challenging. Salt is spread on each step with only two small circular spots for someone to step on. It's said that making it to the top of the staircase without getting any salt on one's shoes means that their wish will come true. Why don't you give it a try?
- Shutter: Photographs in Empatheias are still sepia toned, compared to the more modern and futuristic worlds some Otherworlders are from. One of Selenium's organisers got wind of how photos are important to the dead—even more so to those of the living—as it's how they remain alive. One of the halls in the city is now occupied by some Thespian organisers and their Verens counterparts, and they are requesting for assistance in gluing, piecing together, and repairing photographs. The photos are scattered all over the tables in the hall: some are torn, some have ink blots or food stains which need to be cleaned, and some have been folded too much that the creases have deformed the faces in the photograph. Those who wish to assist in this endeavour will receive a plateful of warm butter cookies, hot chocolate, and 200 sylvs. Just watch out, though, because sometimes, the subjects of the photos seem to move when no one's looking.
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include sunflowers and/or bear cubs.
For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
no subject
Did you have a backup plan the whole time?
[He's surprised he didn't use it sooner but it still got them out of there--and Goten did get to win one match!
Once the zipper is down, with no hesistantion he flies out of the suit. Granted, he could get out on his own the whole time if he didn't worry about getting in trouble if he tore through it. Floating just over Gohan's head, he waves his arms and kicks his feet as he stretches. He can feel the air again. He can move again! Goten will take being small any day over being stuck in a bodysuit like that.]
Much better!
[Soooooo much better! There's a satisfied sigh following that. It feels so much cooler now that he's out of that bulky thing. Though he glances over to Gohan before dropping down behind him. He's not so heartless that he'd abandon his older brother after he helped him out the suit. Finding the zipper, he pulls it down so Gohan can free himself.]
What do we do about the suits? Do you wanna fly them back to that guy? I bet he wants them back!
no subject
Likewise, once Gohan's free of the suit, he stretches wide and takes a deep breath. The air was chilly, but compared to how hot that suit was, it feels like a summer breeze by comparison now. Though it did leave the problem of getting rid of these suits.
Thankfully, Gohan had a solution.]
You leave that to me.
[And so he grabs up his suit, and wraps it around Goten's suit into a big wadded ball of padding, and then he lobs it in the direction they'd come from, putting in enough force behind it to (hopefully) carry it to its destination. Let's hope it doesn't land on anybody.]
no subject
Yep! That was way easier than flying them back. Goten felt safe in the air so even if the guy was pushy again, it'd be easy just to fly away. Unlike his older brother, hiding his abilities doesn't seem as important.
Floating closer to Gohan, Goten playfully drops down onto the teenager's shoulders and makes himself comfortable. He still has energy to burn, there's no way he's done for the day.]
That means we're free to do whatever we want now, right? You gotta know all the fun places around.
[Don't think he's forgotten about sparring either.]
oh no that icon is too cute
Which leaves only one options he can think of.]
Guess I should give you that spar I promised you then, huh?
[It sounds like the best way to tire him out right now. He's really going to have to look into fun places for kids to hang out around here, though.]
its one of my favs haha
Goten can entertain himself pretty well but that could lead to all sorts of things, especially with Trunks around. The two, while they can get into trouble and mischief on their on, together they're a magnet for it.
No way is Goten turning down training with his big brother!]
Yeah! Let's do that! Where's a good place to spar?
[At least he knows better then to ask to do it there. Goten isn't shy with his powers but he does know better then picking a fight in the middle of a city. But he's already shielding his eyes from the sun and looking around for a good spot. He feels pretty tall thanks to the rooftop and Gohan's added height.]
no subject
I found a good place deep in the mountains that's perfect, so we'll head there. [It was a place that he'd taken to using for isolated training. Considering what he has waiting for him back home and that he has no idea when he'll leave or what kind of state he'll return in, he wants to be in top shape for whenever that day comes.]
You better hold on tight, I don't want to be scraping my little brother off the side of a building. [He says that with an obviously joking tone in his voice. But with that, he powers up and lifts off into the sky. Time for a high speed flight to the mountains!]
no subject
Now way, Gohan. You won't lose me, don't worry!
[He laughs but that does make him actually hold on a bit more. Just a little. He can keep his balance just fine where he is but he knows Gohan can go faster a whole lot faster then Nimbus could. Still, he's going to enjoy the free and fastest ride in the whole wide world: the Gohan Express.
The initial take off does make him cling at bit as he hugs Gohan's hair but after that, it's smooth flying!]
no subject
Yeah, I think this spot will do nicely. [Even though the distance they had to travel was relatively short, it was still far enough away from any civilization that they shouldn't have to worry about property damage. He'd like to eventually find a nice place down on the surface to train, though.]
no subject
At least it feels close.
It took so much longer to get from their house to Trunks then that quick flight did. On that note, it sort of reminded him of back home but with a very distinct lack of dinosaurs and other big creatures around. That actually made it feel kind of empty...
Shaking his head, trying not to think of home, he eagerly turns back to Gohan and focuses on him instead. So long as his big brother is here, everything will work out! He lifts his arms and spreads them apart for emphasis.]
This is a good spot! I think'll work. We can do whatever we want out here, right?
no subject
Gohan nods to Goten and back up a few spaces, putting some reasonable space between them. Then he assumes his fighting stance.]
That's right. I'll let you set the pace here, so give me whatever you want. [And he'll give it back in turn. Because he knows Goten's probably going to want to go Super Saiyan here.]
[1/2]
Lowering his arms, he watches Gohan take his stance and quickly mimics him. They did come out here to spar, right! He can't stop smiling.]
Okay! But I've gotten a lot stronger since the last time we fought! You better not go easy on me, Gohan!
[Too an extend. With the stuff that happened with Buu and training a bit in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for that fight, Goten has gotten better! There are still some issues with his ki control as he hasn't really practiced that too much on his own but it's a work in progress.
But this world is weird. He doesn't feel as strong as he should be. But that's okay, he's not worried. As much as he would like to beat Gohan, its more of a game and getting to go one on one with his big brother than the actual outcome. He's going to give it his best!]
[2/2]
His left foot slides back a bit in the dirt before he suddenly kicks off the ground and makes a fast dash straight for Gohan. It's in that dash that Goten quickly taps into into Super Saiyan. His ki flares up around in flash of gold as his dark spiky hair shifts blond and his eyes become greenish-blue. There's no special or thought out attack plan here. Nope, Goten is just aiming to collide with Gohan and start off with his own flurry of fast punches.]
no subject
He dodges and weaves through Goten's flurry with ease, catching the stray punch here or there in order to really feel the strength Goten's wielding.]
Not bad, Goten. Good to know Piccolo hasn't gone soft with his training methods, I can tell he really put you and Trunks through your paces! [He only wishes he could have been able to see it, instead of hearing everything secondhand through his dad and the Kais.] Now keep it coming!
[On one of those punches, Gohan catches Goten's fist and grabs him by the arm, hurling him a good distance. He may have unleashed his full power here, but he was still trying to hold back on Goten. It's a spar, but he still doesn't want to hurt him. At least, not without knowing how much he can handle from him.]
no subject
But Gohan is on a whole other level though! While Goten doesn't really understand his older's brothers transformation, he can feel the power from it. He's seen it once before when he showed up to save them from Buu. Still, it's as amazing as the first time!
His big brother is so strong he doesn't even need to go Super Saiyan anymore!]
W-whoa--!
[Though his awe is short lived as he's suddenly caught and then tossed away. He flies a good ways before catching and righting himself in the air with some effort. He stares at Gohan, frowning a bit as he clenches his fists.
With that golden aura flaring up he wastes no time flying straight for him again. Same as before, he tries to catch Gohan in another quick barrage punches. Goten is doing his best not to let up or give the teen a chance to attack. Though it's clear that he isn't going to be able get through with punches alone.
Narrowing his eyes, he starts concentrating a bit more. Instead he tries to break the other's guard. Twisting around as he pulls his legs back to slam both his feet towards Gohan and use him to push off and flips backwards.
As he flips around, Goten concentrates ki into his hand and blasts the glowing energy at Gohan before charging back in at him. It's a similar tactic from their wrestling match but faster and without the bulkiness of the suits.]
no subject
Gohan braces his guard again as Goten unleashes another barrage of punches. He knows his little brother well enough to know that there's no way he'd just try the same trick again when it didn't work the first time. And his assumption proves right when Goten attempts to break his guard with the force of his kick.
But that's not going to work on him. Not this time. Gohan wastes no time pursuing Goten as the latter fires his blast, knocking it away as he charges at him right back. That trick isn't going to work on Gohan twice, even if it's faster this time.]
Haaah!
[He uses Goten's blast as a cover and his own speed in tandem to get up close to Goten before he has a chance to reach him, in order to deliver a single, well-aimed punch. He takes careful measures not to aim anywhere that'll especially damage him, like his face, but there's force behind this one, and it's going to hurt if Goten takes the hit.]
no subject
Wha--!?
[It probably would have done him better to try and fly around Gohan's attack but he's too startled by how close the teen suddenly is.
He instinctively raises his arms to block the punch butGohan's fist grazes off his forearm and connects pretty solidly with his chest. There's a sharp hiss that escapes from between his teeth as the force is enough to send him back again.
Big brother hits hard.
Goten lets his momentum carry him back a save distance before he lands on the ground and skids a bit through the dirt. He stands upright, staring at Gohan to make sure his brother isn't coming after him. It's then he shakes out his right arm and rolls his shoulder because his arm sort of feels numb and tingly now.]
I think I like you better in that big suit thing...
[Goten grins a bit despite it all, clearly enjoying their time together all the same. He's got to tease Gohan a little. No way is he giving up yet either.]
no subject
That concern soon vanishes seeing Goten quickly bounce back. That's more like it. He doesn't chase after him, though, holding his position. This is just a friendly spar, not an all out fight for the fate of the planet.]
Yeah? [A confident smile forms on his face.] We can stop here if you want. If you don't think you can keep up with me, that is. [It was mostly an attempt to goad Goten into pushing himself harder, but there was some genuineness to it too.]
no subject
Huh?! I didn't mean I wanted to stop!
[Gohan knows him too well. That little bit has Goten's grin turn upside down in favor of a frown. He knows he's not as strong as his big brother, no one is in Goten's eyes. Not even their dad!
But that doesn't mean he can't keep up with him! He pouts, clenching his hands into small fists again as he waves his arms.]
No way! No way, Gohan! We just started!
[Have an offended seven year old]
no subject
Haha, sorry, squirt. You know it's my job as your big brother to pick on you, right?
[He lowers himself into fighting position once again, but doesn't make a move yet.]
Come on, then. Hit me with your best shot!
no subject
Not-Uh! Mom said you gotta be nice to me!
[Granted, she isn't here but it seemed like a good time to remind him of that. He's heard her go on about how Gohan need to be a good role model for him. Though even if she was here, it wasn't likely at all for Goten to tell her. He liked fighting with Gohan even with the teasing.....plus no one wanted her upset over anything. Happy mom was best mom.
As Gohan shifts into his stance, Goten lowers into his own. None of his attacks had worked at all! It was taking everything in him not to just blind rush his big brother again. But he really wanted to get him and he's not good at making plans.
Man, if only Trunks were around...They could cover each other---That's it!
Goten perks up as a small smile pulls at the corner of his mouth. His ki sparks up with his confidence.]
You asked for it!
[Focusing energy in to his right hand, he points it at Gohan only to lower it suddenly and blasts the ground by Gohan's feet instead. It explodes upon contact with the ground, effectively kicking up a bunch of rocks and dirt to create a make-shift smokescreen similar to the one Gohan had made for their escape. However, this is made with a more offensive idea in mind as Goten puts his hands together and fires off multiple blasts into the smoke in a hopeful attempt at hitting someone. While he is hopeful, he does stop after a few more blasts and follows up by diving into the smoke next, trying to sense his brother out with a quick kick!
But if he can try and sense Gohan...then Gohan can do the same so it may not be a well thought out a plan as it could of been....Goten is still hoping to have the upper-hand because it's his attack! That's how it works, or should work, right???]
no subject
When Gohan sees Goten fire the blast at the ground, he immediately realizes what Goten's trying to do, create a smokescreen to conceal his actions. He stays wary, quickly knocking away every energy blast that manages to come his way, but he knows there's something else coming. And he knows there's something else because this is the exact sort of technique he'd been planning on using in this fight himself. Goten might be bold, immature and impulsive, but Gohan knows he's not an idiot. He knows he pays attention to everything he does and really truly learns from his examples. But it's because Goten imitates much of what Gohan does that it makes it pretty easy to read what Goten's doing. It might be a good idea for him to try and properly train Goten as a martial artist here in the future, beyond what Mom had taught him.
Unfortunately for Goten, his kick doesn't manage to connect, as Gohan blocks his kick with his forearm. The dust begins to settle as a wind kicks up, blowing it away.]
Not bad, Goten. [There's a smirk on his face. Not one of confidence, but one of expressed pride. He's being genuine with his praise there, that was a smart maneuver.] If you'd hidden your energy there before trying to hit me, you totally could've gotten me there! [But unfortunately coming at him while in Super Saiyan really kind of turned him into a giant moving ki beacon, and one that Gohan knows very well at that.
Grabbing onto Goten's legs, he gives the boy a twirl in the air in an attempt to disorient him, before aiming an elbow strike to his back to knock him to the ground.]
no subject
Feeling his leg hit something solid does briefly excite him for a second or two. But it's as the dust is blown away that he freezes. Uh-oh.]
Really...?
[Compliments are nice but he can't help but keep tense. Just as he tries to push off of Gohan's arm to get a safe distance away, he's grabbed and jerked around. He starts pulling against Gohan as if to try and fly away with him because he is totally willing to take Gohan for a ride if he wants, but being spun around and being hit to the ground sort of puts an end to that.
There's some grumbling that escapes Goten but it's muffled that's to the ground before he pushes himself up to his knees. He's quick to bounce back, shaking his head. Slowly, he tilts his head back to look up at Gohan who suddenly seems a lot bigger now that they're sparring.
Goten would be way more nervous if Gohan was anyone else. His power and skill are intimidating but no matter how much of a powerhouse Gohan becomes, it's still his big brother. So he's not scared of him.]
....That's impossible though. If I hide my energy I can't hit you hard!
[At least not hard enough for it to matter. Landing a hit is great, but it doesn't do much if Gohan doesn't feel it! Super Saiyan is clearly the way to go and that's how he's staying.
Shifting from his knees to his feet, he suddenly springs up at Gohan aiming to try and headbutt him in the stomach with raw powering and momentum.]
no subject
Hitting me hard doesn't matter if you can't hit--
[Well, it would have been a lesson, if not for Goten's interruption there. Having let his guard down, he takes the hit dead on to his stomach, staggering backwards clutching it. He cringes at his little brother, an angry look in his eyes.]
That was a cheap shot, Goten!
[Seriously, so rude. Maybe he'll tell mom you fight dirty!]
no subject
From the hit, Goten drops back to the ground, sitting on his rear. He stares up at Gohan, blinking in disbelief. That actually worked? He can't help but be surprised as he watches him stagger back.]
Sorry Gohan, but I thought we were still sparring.
[He smiles apologetically. He is sorry but at the same time, a hit was a hit so...it kind of feels like an achievement. Maybe he should try more stuff like that since it works?]
I didn't hear what you were trying to say about hitting but I did get you!
[That hit totally counted!]
no subject
Yeah, you got me... But this spar isn't over yet. Not by a long shot.
[He lowers into his fighting stance once more, this time making sure he keeps his guard up. He's not letting you do that a second time, Goten. Don't even think about it, because you'll regret it. Just be glad he's not taking advantage of the fact you're just sitting there on your butt instead of focusing here.]
