TEST DRIVE: FEBRUARY
Welcome to
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
- Date reminders. Reserves open Wednesday, January 25 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Wednesday, January 1st.
- OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• Prompt D: Over two years ago, the ill fated Red String of Fate toy made its debut. At the time it seemed like a solid idea, but as it turned out… it didn’t exactly work as advertised. People found themselves tied together with entirely incompatible people instead of the proclaimed “emotionally compatible” and to top it off, personal, influential and private telepathic communication came out drenched in sap and overly lovey-dovey overtones. It was, without a doubt, one of the company’s least successful product launches ever. And you would think that they would have learned. However, they decided to try again, and… well. It wasn’t exactly all that well thought out the second time around. But third time’s the charm, right? Wrong. Even if this time, it’s in the form of rings that will draw two people together in a “matched pair” rather than a string.
• Prompt E: The inexplicably cavernous sewers of Verens are no place for a sane individual, but here you are anyway—dropped there by some horrible emotional shift that made an entire section of street vanish and then reappear above your heads as if nothing had happened. You and the poor fool you’ve been dumped down here with need to find your way to the access tunnels and climb out, or perhaps go the other way and swim out through the Lake Niras outflow. Or just smash your way out, if you’re feeling destructive. But your own emotions will work against you, as you struggle against the terrible scent, the darkness, and the entirely-justified questioning of why your life has taken this horrible turn.
• Prompt F: Some bandits went and stole another airship, only this time the Enforcers are prepared with a few of their own. Join in for some intense air battles. Just don't make the ship explode—they'd like it back in one piece please. Unless you're actually on the bandit team, in which case you probably want to blow up the Enforcer ship.
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include bubblegum and/or toadstools.

- There’s not really anything wrong with believing in true love, but trying to formulate a product that can detect someone’s ideal mate is innately flawed. Which only means that no matter how many times the product is adjusted, it’s just not going to work. Those who wind up with the product shoved onto their fingers (by a sales rep or through actually purchasing the product) will find themselves, once again, pulled by an unseen force to the nearest person they are “compatible with”. Same height, same hair color, whatever. It’s not exactly discriminatory. …Unfortunately as poor a match as they may be, the two cannot be separated until they share a meaningful embrace. So settle in, you might be together for a while.
- In certain pairs, normal conversation is often unintentionally made amorous, simply from inflection in voice, or perhaps a heightened affectionate emotion. Or, on the flip side, anger and aggression is increased ten fold, but it’s kind of 50-50 as to what effect will take place, all dependant on which hand they wear the ring. Left, romance, Right? Anger.
- There’s something odd about the way the water and sewage is sloshing around your ankles, almost as if it’s rising. But wait, that can’t possibly be a pair of eyes you see under the oil slick surface… could it? You’ve heard rumors about all sorts of beasties down here but surely your mind is just playing tricks on you.
- Remember that part about emotions turning against you? Maybe you’ve been trapped down here way too long with someone who’s just not living up to your expectations, or you’ve got something else on your minds—but the smell around you certainly seems to be growing thicker, the scent growing harder and harder to ignore. The water and grossness at your feet also seems to be growing thicker almost as though it’s curing like cement. The cause? Negative emotions. But are they yours or the person you’re stuck here with? Perhaps you should work through those post haste…
- Escape! You’ve made it out, but not without a great amount of effort on both you and your partner’s parts. Did you manage to find a way out through the access tunnels? Or perhaps you really did travel through all that much to the Lake Niras outflow… whatever it is, You’re certainly stinky, and possibly tired and cranky too.
- What's an airship fight without some on deck action? Either the bandits are swinging over to the ship you're on, or maybe you're swinging over there. Whatever the case, it's a full on brawl. Just watch out—those bandits are well-armed with some interesting firearms and weapons. If hit, one of the following emotions will start to take over your senses: unquestionable rage, debilitating fear and panic, and sleepiness. Needless to say, these effects will hinder one's ability to fight.
- Can you fly or are you okay with climbing up the full height of your airship? Then grab a few sleep and apathy grenades and throw them at the bandits. Just be careful not to accidentally hit your allies. Otherwise they will be the ones feeling sleepy and want to give up. Also watch out for flying nets and bullets. Those bandits will definitely try to bring you down.
- While the enforcers are trying to maintain the integrity of the stolen ship, the bandits feel no such need to hold back and are freely unloading their weapons onto the Enforcer's ships, forcing them to defend themselves. Other than decapacitating the bandit behind the weapon, it's also possible to overload it with intense emotions. Explode it with rage or clog it with happy, loving flowers.
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include bubblegum and/or toadstools.
For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
E
It's dark and disgusting inside the sewer, and Leia, unfortunately, has no source of light to help her here. She's relying on her hand on the wall and whatever light seeps in from the grates high above them to try and figure out where she's going and what parts of the tunnels she should avoid. Thankfully--or perhaps unthankfully--the combination of the water sloshing as Krennic walks and the white of his uniform catches Leia's attention, but they're not close enough for her to make out any details of his uniform or face.
Still. It's another person, and he might have information on where the exit is. Or where it isn't.]
Who's there?
no subject
Once he could make out her face he took a moment to look her over but he didn't recognize her.]
Are you familiar with these sewers?
[He decided to skip over the introductions, for now since he assumed that she would want to find a way out sooner rather than later.]
no subject
[The nearer he drew, the more clearly she could make out his features. Her gaze drops from his face first to the insignia on his chest, then to the blaster in his hand. The both of those are more than enough to tell her he happens to be from the same galaxy, and is, unfortunately, no one she could consider an ally. His identity beyond that is something Leia doesn't recognize just yet, but based on his response, she assumes that cluelessness is mutual.
So, for now, she can shove aside her disgust and work first on getting out of here. But she can't disguise the way the water around them thickens and grows heavier as a result of that disgust, despite her neutral facade.]
The street opened up and I found myself down here. There's no exit in the direction I came from.
[To clarify, she tilts her head in the direction she'd been coming from, careful to not take her eyes off of Krennic as she does so.]
no subject
Despite his extensive work on Coruscant designing government buildings and meetings with Mas Amedda, he didn't really pay much attention to a Senate that was, for the most part, a facade. But he took note of how she never seemed to take her eyes from him, clearly cautious.
He looked down as the water thickened, the smell was getting worse by the minute.]
I suggest we don't head in the same direction the water is draining unless you want to swim through it. No doubt we can find a ladder or some access point to the surface street eventually.
no subject
On one hand, he has a point, even if she'd hate to actually admit it. She's not too pleased about the prospect of having to swim through this filth, and would much rather get out of here sooner rather than later. But on the other hand, with the sewers as large as they are, there was bound to be some sort of exit along the direction the water was flowing, for the sake of the workers that had to come down here at some point.]
I'd think the closer to the outflow we are, the more likely there are to be access points we can use. Or even some sort of processing facility to clean this sludge before it's cycled out of here. Unless you saw any signs of entry in the direction you came from?
no subject
[He pointed out, wishing he had something useful as a source of light than just bits here and there from above them. It would have to be enough. ]
Do you have anything with you, by any chance? [He asked as he started walking in the direction the water was going. He wasn't going to argue with her on which direction to go, they could always turn around if needed. He would rather get out of here.
He peered up as they went, trying to pick out any differences in the wall or ceiling that he could pick out to see if there was a pattern or any indication of where an exit may be. They had to move slowly, though, the last thing he wanted was to end up tripping into a drainage pool.]
no subject
At his question, she hesitates, not sure whether she wants to answer or not. Because it's true, she doesn't have a blaster with her. She never had one when she arrived, and the weapons here weren't close enough to those she's familiar with for her comfort. But it doesn't take long for Leia to make up her mind, deciding that both the darkness around them and the fact that Krennic will no doubt learn the truth sooner or later were reason enough to reach for the bronze-colored weapon hanging at her hip, underneath her coat.]
I have this.
[She powers the lightsaber on, the yellow blade illuminating the area around them, making their immediate surroundings easier to see at the expense of whatever is further down the tunnel.]
no subject
That will come in handy. [He kept his tone even before he turned to keep going down the tunnel. The light from the blade helped as the water thickened and made taking steps difficult. He was determined to get out of here, covering his mouth with one hand as he walked.
He held out a hand, coming to a stop suddenly as he started to pick out the sound of rushing water. There seemed to be a ledge emerging to one side however, it looked as if it may have been designed for easy access for workers. He gestured with the blaster to show Leia before heading towards it.]
This may be the way out we were looking for.
no subject
She opens it, but doesn't head down into the access tunnels or whatever happens to be down there just yet. She doesn't want to go first, not when she's with an Imperial officer who she knows to have a blaster in hand.]
I don't see an exit just yet, but at the very least, we won't be walking through any sewage.
[As far as she can tell. She hopes that's the case.]
no subject
The air seems less foul this way, at least. [Since she wasn't willing to lead the way he just stepped in carefully ahead of her. He listened closely to how far she was behind him, he really didn't want to have to deal with another wound like the one Lyra had left him.
There wasn't a lot of light ahead which meant that he couldn't walk too far from the light of the lightsaber blade. There was no sound of rushing water, though, their steps echoed in the empty tunnel before his boot hit a step. He peered up at what seemed to be a staircase going up and distant light above.]
It seems we've gotten lucky.
no subject
I can't imagine what part of the city we're in, but I'll take my chances.
[She lowers the lightsaber--still keeping it on and still keeping it in hand, since even with the door illuminated above them, it wasn't enough to make out much of anything in their immediate area. Well that, and she's not sure she trusted turning it off in close quarters with Krennic. It would leave her defenseless.
But, in contrast to before, after a long, probing stare, Leia turns and begins to make her way up the stairs. The sooner they can both get out, after all, the better.]
You're new here.
[It's an observation, even if she's not looking at him at the moment. Because no one else here wore uniforms like that, and she'd know if she'd seen one before.]
no subject
[He paused as he let her take the lead up the stairs. The light seemed to be getting stronger, a promising sign that they would be out of the sewer in short order. Once they reached the surface he would find out who she was and if she would pose any problems.
He was sure they were going to have a very interesting discussion.]
Yes, I found myself here moments after my arrival. A rude welcome, to be certain.
[And not a promising start but it was still better than where he had been on Scarif.]
no subject
She doesn't bother turning her head toward Krennic as he answers, though she does glance out of the side of her eye vaguely in his direction. She still doesn't trust him back there with a blaster, but the light at the end of the tunnel--literally--was getting closer and closer, so she could deal with it for just a bit longer.]
Rude, perhaps, but not uncommon. After my own arrival, the city suffered an earthquake. It's nothing like being dumped in a sewer, of course.
no subject
[Not that his life had really been quiet. After the Clone Wars he had just picked up where the Republic had left over, there really had never been a breather. Sitting idle was something that wouldn't be something that was good for him.]
I never got your name, did I?
[He was able to breath easier, he was sure they were close to the entrance and he could make her features out better. Something about her seemed almost familiar but he just couldn't put his finger on it.]
no subject
Isn't it poor manners to ask someone's name before introducing yourself?
no subject
[He supposed he had no reason to hide his identity. His work was mostly under layers of secrecy since the days of the Republic, though he had a few public projects such as government buildings and military complexes which he was rather proud of.]
Director Krennic, Imperial Intelligence. And now that we have that out of the way, you are..?
no subject
It doesn't reflect well on Imperial Intelligence if you have to have to ask my name.
[For several reasons, ranging from the position she had on Alderaan, her old position in the Senate, or the more obvious one: the bounty on her head from being wanted by the Empire as a leader of the Rebel Alliance.]
no subject
He was missing something and it bothered him even more..]
My duties have kept me isolated for some time now. It's been some time since I've been able to venture to Coruscant on a regular basis so you'll have to forgive me if I don't recognize you.
[But her name still eluded him and that made him even more curious.]
no subject
Nor do excuses reflect well on you or your division.
[She's not shocked by his response, though, since she doesn't expect anyone with strong, unwavering Imperial ties to not have excuses upon excuses to justify their actions.]
But, you'll no doubt learn my name soon enough, whether or not I share it with you. [because she's sure Hux will be more than happy to share] I'm Leia Organa.
[With that, she's sure that will ring some bells. If not, then that's something she can use to her advantage.]
no subject
[He wasn't going to let her try to shame him. He had made the Death Star happen, he was the architect of the Republic and the Empire. He was going to bring peace and stability to the galaxy.
Even though her face wasn't familiar to him her name certainly was, his eyes widening slightly. That explained why she was so wary.
Senator Organa....or perhaps you prefer 'your highness'. [He knew of her, the senator from Alderaan and a suspected Rebel sympathizer. He knew Tarkin was waiting eagerly to get his hands on Alderaan to make it an example of what happened to planets who even thought of betraying the Empire.]
Is that a family heirloom then? [he asked, indicating the lightsaber.] It's been a long time since I've seen a lightsaber.
no subject
Her grip on the lightsaber shifts as he mentions it, but her gaze doesn't leave his face. She's no expert on how to actually use a lightsaber in battle, and hers is only something she'd obtained here, with the help of a different Galen with a thing for Kyber Crystals, but it's still important to her, and in a pinch, she could likely make do with it. But she's mostly sure Krennic won't try attacking or anything while they're in these tunnels, given the lack of space and how it would likely be a danger to him if he did try anything.]
I don't think it matters much where I obtained it.
[She could say it was, but that could also be just as damaging to admit, given the fact that lightsabers are practically synonymous with the Jedi, and associating with Jedi is damaging to any reputation. And he doesn't seem to recognize her connection to the rebellion just yet. But admitting it wasn't a family heirloom would also put Galen in danger as the one who helped her build it.]
There are plenty of lightsabers here, if you're curious. Most of them happen to be in the hands of Jedi Knights.
no subject
[The one benefit he enjoyed as a result of Order 66 was being able to get his hands on the large crystals for Galen's research with little trouble from the Jedi Order.]
Jedi Knights? Now that is something, it's been some time since I've seen a Jedi. [He remarked, taking a deep breath as the last of the smell of the sewer below was starting to dissipate. He would need a shower, however, and clean clothes sooner rather than later.]
This place seems to get more interesting by the moment.
no subject
[Or at least, she assumes Vader's lightsaber is the same as the others. She doesn't know much about what goes into the construction of traditional lightsabers--Jedi or Sith--but she assumes it has to be powered by the same thing.]
no subject
Oh? And who would that be, Senator?
[Did she know about the project? The demonstration on Jedhadbad been covered up but Tarkin's work had been sloppy so there might have been witnesses.]
no subject
Leia doesn't know if Krennic is being deliberately obtuse or if he truly doesn't know, but her expression remains impassive, despite the heat still surrounding them from her irritation and immediate hatred of him.]
There's no need to feign ignorance, Director. Even you have to know Darth Vader.
