TEST DRIVE: NOVEMBER

— TEST DRIVE: NOVEMBER —

Welcome to [community profile] empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

  • Date reminders. Reserves open Tuesday, October 25 and Applications (Canon | OC) open Tuesday, November 1st.

  • OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.

  • Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.

  • Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.

  • Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.

  • First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!

PROMPTS

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...

• Prompt D: The Boreas Harvest Festival is fast approaching, and the farmers are trying hard to work through the bleak weather conditions to get their crops in before they go bad from all the apathy. All hands on deck—but there may be too many unwanted hands roaming around.

  1. Scarecrows. The scarecrows that have been set up as a festive reminder of the time of year have unfortunately come under the influence of some errant strong emotions from the farm hands that work in the fields. Unfortunately that includes trying to ward off anyone who enters the fields with pitchforks and is one of them carrying a torch? Maybe if they can be convinced that you are trustworthy they will calm down.

  2. Invading rabbits. There are ton of rabbits ravaging the carrot patches. They're easily frightened, but some are more tenacious than others. Beware of the white rabbit with red eyes.

  3. Save the crops! Several batches are already starting to spoil! The only thing that can save them is dumping as much positive emotions into them. Joy of good food, hope for a bountiful meal, love of eating—whatever will work. Just be careful. Too much and those things might grow and explode…

• Prompt E: Aiada, the Arehtei of appreciation and jealousy, has sent a personal request for those who are interested. There is a small island just beneath Empatheias that she has been cultivating over the many centuries. She wishes to contribute to the Harvest Festival with some seeds and spores. However, the recent atmosphere has also reached down there, and now it's all a mess! Giant mushrooms replaced the trees and there's slime and mold everywhere. The cure? Aside from getting a lot of heavy duty cleaners and pushing it off, appreciation will go a long way to help.

  1. Goop brigade. Grab that bucket and shovel and clear the goop out! Just be careful not to have too much get on you—jealousy might take over.

  2. Appreciation balls. To help hasten the effort, Aiada has given several tubs filled with light, green orbs. Once channeled with enough appreciation, they can be used as mini-grenades to help explode and wash the area with more positive energy. Those caught in the blast won't be harmed. If anything, they'll just be very thankful.

  3. Watch the ledges. Careful, it's a fairly small island and the goop and slime has made things slick. If you fall… That's not a good way to go, let's just say that.

• Prompt F: Various parties are interested in the emotion shards scattered all over Thera. But this time around, the focus is on the medical laboratory as the equipment and potential research there is also of interest. For three days those who volunteer are sent back to try and gather as much as possible—but of course this won't be easy.

  1. Skeletal Scientists. The remains of the scientists who once worked in these rooms are still lurking, ready to protect their work. Fortunately they're relatively weak nerds, so not too difficult to dispatch. Just be careful.

  2. Flying equipment. The various medical equipment has also taken life, scalpels and needles flying everywhere and stethoscopes ready to strangle.

  3. Questionable liquid. Most of the easy shards have already been taken, leaving the more difficult to retrieve ones left. In particular they're found in strange, dark pink liquid. It's mostly harmless—except that upon contact intense waves of grief and suffering will course through. The longer the exposure, the worse it is. So hopefully a bucket full of it doesn't fall on you…

• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include feathers and/or confetti.

For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!

I'm so happy!

[Beaming brightly her excitement radiates from her clearly.] I'm so glad that I get to help out, too! [And that the night class has officially opened up, then. This means that she'll get to see more and even more of Kaname!]
bloodyrose: (It was worth it every time)

[personal profile] bloodyrose 2016-11-01 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[He can't help the quiet chuckle to her reaction, even if it's exactly as he had expected.]

You do. You play an important role, and work very hard. The Chairman really depends on you.

[She certainly does get to see Kuran more. Even for as complicated as it eventually gets.]
gardenboxed: (Did I hear something?)

[personal profile] gardenboxed 2016-11-01 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Do you do it with me, too? [Since he also very obviously knows of the existence of vampires.]
bloodyrose: (What lies beyond the clouds?)

[personal profile] bloodyrose 2016-11-01 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. Yuuki and I are partners.
bloodyrose: (What once was bright)

[personal profile] bloodyrose 2016-11-01 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Bats, wolves, spiders. . . he's seen plenty. Granted they're a manifestation of themselves. He can't say he knows what Yuuki will choose, but it will for sure be something different. Just how she is, compared to the entirely of the vampire race.

Zero just watches her for a few moments. It's an interesting reply.]

I suppose. Not all humans have the best of intentions, but there are many more who are very much the opposite. The world —or, mine, at least, is far from being strictly black or white.
gardenboxed: (You make my heart sing)

[personal profile] gardenboxed 2016-11-01 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[The revelation merely makes her smile happily. She's so glad that they both get to work together doing something good for both humans and vampires alike.]

I can't wait for when I'm the same age, too.
bloodyrose: (Like moonshine in the morning light)

[personal profile] bloodyrose 2016-11-01 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
[He's more than relieved with how well this conversation is going. So very different than their initial meeting, here.]

I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

[In the meantime, food!]

I wouldn't be surprised if that has happened before.

[Her expression is slightly grim but otherwise she seems unperturbed. Her orb does dim a touch before she has the time to throw it however. There may be an extra bit of force behind the throw as well.

She doesn't abandon the topic more than she simply turns to his other words.]

My escape has always been practicing.

[He has half a mind to ask this young woman to please modulate her voice but--

No. No, she has a good--

And he's not exactly--

He dodges, it's the best he can do, and her pumpkin smashes straight into his, bursting both open in a sticky mess of pulp and seeds.

He reaches an arm out to try and stop her from slipping in the gooey orange mess but-- he was distracted before but now he can see.

Her hair is the exact same shade as Hiryuu's, and so are her eyes, and he finds himself on one knee before her almost without realizing it...

...up until the damp pumpkin guts soak through his clothes and straight to the skin. Lovely.

But he stares up at her, with all the intensity a Blue Dragon can muster.]

In heaven's name, who are you?
staredown: (i can look anywhere but down is my fav)

[personal profile] staredown 2016-11-01 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Scarier still, when you can see exactly what's below. [He blinks, briefly, to remove that sight, but...]

Usually, there's someone else to do it for me. I try not to make it too difficult on them but [between the blood and mud of the battlefield] sometimes it can't be helped, and I must do my own here.

[...and he can't help glancing upward briefly, at that.]

...It's a novel idea. I presume there's a rig that would cause the water to fall...? [That sounds remarkably pleasant. And saves you the trouble of having to pour water over your head to rinse!] I might need to find one for myself.
staredown: (Default)

[personal profile] staredown 2016-11-01 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
[That's rather opaque, isn't it? Abi looks away. The question is meant respectfully, he is fairly certain, and clearly thought out, if not entirely in advance-- nothing shameful in course correction.]

I don't know what you mean by "Blue Dragon's Village." I am Seiryuu Abi, one of King Hiryuu's Four Dragon Warriors, and nothing more.
staredown: (sun and shadow)

[personal profile] staredown 2016-11-01 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
[That's... actually a good question. He has to think about it for a moment.

He hears his real name so little these days. He is used to being Seiryuu-sama to others, even though hearing it from another dragon feels wrong.]

Ouryuu likely encourages you to do that. It's his fault, not yours. [That much he's certain of.]

"Seiryuu Abi" is too long, I know that much. So is "Original Seiryuu."
staredown: (i can look anywhere but down is my fav)

[personal profile] staredown 2016-11-01 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
That I somewhat doubt. [He nods to Kija.] You and he were... born with the blood of the dragons, you've had your whole lives to learn how to use these powers. They are a part of you.

For myself, it is a great blessing, but one that has been... grafted on.

[Ahem. That was a little more than he meant to say, but Kija is just so eager and understanding, it's hard not to...

He had more questions, didn't he? And Abi feels strange contemplating this Shin-ah, although that is a beautiful name. "Moonlight."]

As for communications with the gods. Only when Seiryuu offered to me his blood drink. Besides speaking with Hiryuu every day, I've heard nothing more since.
heartsome: (There are many worlds)

[personal profile] heartsome 2016-11-01 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see. I'm still....figuring a lot of this out, I guess.

[After all, even with some experience of going to other worlds, this seems rather an exception in many ways. Even if she hasn't visited as many as some of her friends. It's a work in progress.]
staredown: (Default)

tell me if my age math is wrong. i'm assuming Zeno stopped counting when he drank the blood but

[personal profile] staredown 2016-11-01 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ooc, cont: if you're playing it differently, I'm happy to edit. =)]

You and Ryokuryuu are practically of an age. Don't let him lord it over you, for heaven's own sake.

[He could do without the reminder that he's the baby of the family, thanks... especially with all these future dragons and Shu-ten in his thirties and Hiryuu in his... whatever age who even knows.

But it is a display of camaraderie, and Abi endeavors to view it in that light. Zeno is trying to make him feel at home, feel welcome, feel like he's not alone, and that is something he can appreciate, lending more power to the little balls.

...he keeps up the stare, though, even if Zeno doesn't seem affected.]

Drunkenness is hardly a desirable state... though I'd feel deprived if I couldn't occasionally... [He frowns a little more openly at that, trying to reconcile it with Zeno's healing.]

You're just making me more curious. I would deeply appreciate you being truthful.

That sounds like it might be pretty hard, though...

[Pilouette is at least a little self-aware and she knows that she's never been the best at controlling her emotions. Even now, she needed someone else's guidance just to focus a little. She frowns thoughtfully, considering what doing such a thing must take.]

I guess someone's gotta be like, totally on the ball to be able to do that kind of thing just whenever. I wonder if that's the kind of thing someone can just learn to do.

[Laying foundation for future arrivals to deal with prejudice. Barry does his best not to scoff with a humorless smile.]

Sounds a little familiar. I knew I should double checked my brochure.

[Pamphlet. Whatever. He needs to focus on the thing that's giving him hope on returning home, as if he's never left.

Time.]

I think I can figure something out for me to do. [The waves of thought lighten up on that.] What about you, what do you do? I haven't even asked your name and you've filled me in on a lot already.

Island Patrons? I don't remember reading about, wait, you mean the Arehtei?

[They sound touchy if his first shout out is him putting his foot in his mouth.]

But, that's not cool. I don't have to take some wacky quest to make up for it, do I?

[Do they even have unladen swallows here? CAN HE EVEN MAKE THAT JOKE?]

No, I mean [He trails off because for once the Flash isn't fast enough] I can, run us...back. Yeah.

[She's already taken charge and the scarlet speedster is right next to her because he sure is one 'those' people.]

Alright, that I can do. [Papers are easier for him to lose, so maybe leaving that up to her is best.] Can you handle these guys? A gun or something.

...+1 morning star maybe?

Sad as familiarity is, at least it means you're somewhat prepared.

[As grumpy and sullen as Dezel can be at times, though, he has no issue moving on from there.  Lately, maintaining anger over even the most set in of grudges has been draining.  Not that much more needs to be said regarding their inability to leave or Bradley's failed attempt.]

Name's Dezel.  I work for the Investigations Unit of the Enforcers.  Once in a while, I take up Task Board jobs with trusted partners for a few extra sylvs.

[Finding Grumpy McGrumperson on his first try. Barry's oddly proud of that.]

Had to learn about sylvs when I tried to buy something with cash. [All he wanted was a burger. Is that a crime?] So Enforcers? Sounds like my work back home. I'm in police forensics, or was, back at Central City.

[Whoops. A little unease because he hates asking this question.]

That is if you have forensics on your world?

[Seems to be Dezel's luck he keeps running across so many optimistic sorts.  Not that it's a bad thing, despite how he might grumble about it once in a while.]

Mn.  It's "gald" where I'm from.

[At the mention of forensics, there's the equivalent of a mental head tilt on Dezel's end.]

No, the word isn't familiar on Glenwood.  What did your job involve at home?

Gald. Gotcha. [ODD, but who's he to judge. Hey, mine has ugly dead dudes on paper.

Doesn't even sound right in his head.]

Well, it's part of investigations. After a crime goes down, I come in and sweep the area for evidence. A fingerprint, DNA like a hair or finger nail, or even tracks from shoes or tires. Blood too. Any clue that can give me a lead on putting a face on a criminal. A lot of science-y stuff basically.

[Such a sad mental sigh.]

Aaaand I'm willing to bet none of that matters here in Final Fantasy land...
lukeim_yurlin: (Huh...)

[Voice]

[personal profile] lukeim_yurlin 2016-11-01 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dezel takes all that in without interrupting and while there are a couple things that don't click with him - mostly to do with the acronym of DNA - he actually does understand most of that.  (Though the joke at the end sails clean over his head, even if the intent is clear.  Sounds like something his buddy Ben Tennyson might say.  Then again, he's fairly sure Ben's used that acronym as well at some point, once or twice...hmm.)]

[He's quiet a moment, thinking.  Then:]

Maybe.  Maybe not.  You could try speaking with Detective Bobby Fulbright about it, since he supervises the Investigative branch.  Your experience and knowledge might be something we'd have use for...  Especially since some of that sounds like tracking skills put to good use.

[This does bring to mind something else, however...]

You any good in a fight?

What do you practice?

[New orb, new thoughts. Is he always going to be this way when he meets someone like this? Probably not. He has a chance to start again.]

I've gotten pretty good in the kitchen thanks to having plenty of time to practice. Also a lot of people don't know how to cook so it's that or get stuck eating over cooked, over spiced food.
