all right, fess up. how many literal sociopaths are sitting around here pretending just hard enough to not get locked up

purely out of interest.

Define sociopath and define pretending.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
hey, if i knew i wouldn't need to ask.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
One would argue that it's all about mindset. If the pretense is far more prevalent and firm than 'reality', does that not make the pretense reality instead?

well, sure, it's up to them whether they count themselves. along with anything else they choose to do. i'm just curious.

Sociopath: a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience.

Generally thought of as not caring what the world or society has to say about normal behavior and doing what they feel like or want because why the fuck not.

I'm actually worried more that you need the definition of pretend.

There's at least one person who takes pretending so far that they start thinking they are the person they are pretending to be.

That goes less into pretending and more into other psychological issues.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
There's quite a few interpretations of 'pretend', especially in this context.

And from what I know of psychology, psychopaths are more prone to 'pretending' than sociopaths. There is a difference between the two, you see.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
True. As I said, sociopaths don't tend to care and so they don't try to blend into the crowd. Even if people don't realize that's what's going on, they stick out or feel off to most who know or deal with them.

I wasn't aware the local laws prohibited different ways of thinking.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
nope, they do not. so at least one?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
There is no pretending going on. Merely existing isn't enough reason to be imprisoned.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
at least one. thanks for contributing to the sum total of empatheian knowledge

The next time you ask something, word it in a way that isn't an insult to those answering.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
hmm... now i'm not so sure.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
What is that supposed to mean?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
More than you'd think.

More than I'd think too given recent events. If anything it makes you wonder if there's actually anyone normal out there, doesn't it?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, i know THAT much. there's one or two.
