Empatheias Welcome Centre volunteer and sign-ups!

Important Edit and Credit In a spectacular flub I forgot to mention that this welcome centre is the brainchild and the labor of love of both myself and Reena, aka Red-mun. My apologies to Reena! OTL

Lu Meng will be setting up a Welcome Center for newcomers starting in April! The purpose of the Welcome centre is to offer a one-stop resource centre for newcomers to get introduced with the situation, as well as to give them a leg-up on getting acquainted with the city, its culture and living in Verens.

About the Welcome Centre

More info in the doc here, but some of the basic things the welcome centre will have:

  • Shun's Emp pamphlets. Copies of all the pamphlets that Shun currently has available at the Task Board center (link would be made available).
  • Information archive. An archive of information covering the history of Empatheias, the Arehtei, the developments that happened since the Otherworlders arrived, and explanations on key game mechanics like crystal telepathy, resurrection of dead Otherworlders (ex-ghost types), filling up a crystal with emotional drops and giving it to the Arehtei, etc.
  • Resource list. A list of important resources: the location of the main hospital, Otherworlder-friendly clinics, who to contact in case of medical emergencies or if a crime is taking place, who the Enforcers and the Reps are.
  • Welcome Baskets. These are the welcome kits that are currently distributed at the Task Board center and provided by Alvin. They contain some basic necessity items, coupons that can be used at local vendors, a small city map, and some business cards for suggested stores and grocers.
  • Job list. An updated list of jobs from the taskboard and a map of the city's available location for the Otherworlders
  • Dorm and dining area. A small dormitory-ish area for those who are unable to get settled into Emp immediately. There is also a small dining area for them to sit around and have some tea or coffee and if hungry, sandwiches.
  • Dunamis classes. Free classes on dunamis thrice every week, specifically Step 1 and Step 2 Dunamis which would allow people to avoid emotional reactions around them, but not on how to use the emotional energy.

Jobs & Volunteers

So because this is a lot of stuff, Lu Meng will be looking for volunteers and full-time paid staff.

  • New arrival scouts. These people head out during the (now) designated day of the month to look for newcomers and try to explain the situation. Each person will be carrying Shun's pamphlets, and if the newcomer wants more information they can ask or be referred to the records at the welcome centre.
  • Medical assistance. If needed, the centre can be an easy go to place for simple medical assistance, made easier with the clinic nearby.
  • Introduce Welcome Centre. Volunteers are encouraged to bring new arrivals to the welcome centre and give them the welcome basket.
  • Inform about housing. If the newcomer is ready to start, volunteers should point them out to the locations of the Otherworlder housing. If they're not ready to go out on their own, show them them to the dorms to stay a couple of days.

For the full timers, they have to be on-call at all times for any sudden newcomers (ie. a person can suddenly drop them a ping on the amulet at 3am). Full time staff are paid positions and can be a source of steady employment.

If you're interested to join the Welcome Centre, feel free to comment with the template below! If your character can offer any other service, they can also choose to do so!

The Welcome Centre is also pretty new and thus a work in progress. Feel free to drop any comments and suggestions below.

These are all pretty good suggestions!

The only thing I felt I needed to point out was trying to figure out alignments since this might not be too clear. In the beginning, all crystals are pretty much clear/neutral color. It's not until they've accumulated a fair number of drops, particularly those of their alignment, that they will start seeing a color to it. There's also the dilemma of how character crystals can come custom designed, INCLUDING taking on a different "default" color. So that's something that should also probably be cleared up.

Annnd now I have to keep my mouth shut and not offer suggestions as to other ways to figure out alignments haha. More fun to see what players might come up with.
