Welcome to [community profile] empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

  • Date reminders. Reserves open Tuesday, November 24th and Applications (Canon | OC) open Tuesday, December 1st.

  • OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are currently allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.

  • Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.

  • Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.

  • Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.

  • First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...

• Prompt D: (Taken from the Intro Log) Make a wish! There are two ways to do it—1) write it down on a piece of paper; 2) use paper shaped petals that automatically reflect your deepest dreams and wishes. These wishes are to help instill hope and increase positive vibes around the place, but it's not restricted to just general wishes. Dreams, aspirations, goals—anything toward the future count! In addition, the wish will be a positive for the character, so even if a character wishes for the destruction of the world, so long as that thought makes them happy it'll be considered a positive one. Now, who will see your wish and what will you do with it?

• Prompt E: It's already Notus, the season of winter, and the first snow is starting to fall. With the cold weather now out, appropriate clothing is needed. This season, there are special scarves designed to wrap snugly around and keep you warm—provided you have good warm feelings around you. If you don't, then prepare for a sudden freeze. Not only that, but the scarf will actually stretch out and try to reach out to someone who is giving off warm vibes, so you may have a snuggle buddy if you're not careful.

• Prompt F: Some genius inventors tried to create some automaton capable of clearing the streets. Simple square metal boxes fueled off steam, piston engineering, and emotions, they are equipped with steel blades that break the snow and thin sheets of ice before pushing it to the side. This is their first test run, and it's going as well as one would expect—not well at all. Instead of going after snow, the automaton are chasing after people, and the higher the emotion activity, the faster and more dangerous they become. Either calm those things down or stop them with force!

• Prompt G: What is your worst fear? What do you do if you have to face it? Is it a person? A place? A thing? For this prompt, individuals will find themselves facing their worst fear and must either garner their courage to destroy it, or succumb to it. But good news—help is near! ...Or they could make it worse.

• Prompt H: Make your own! It could include green carrots or miniature sheep.

For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!

Alexander Hamilton | Hamilton

[Prompt B
The list is simple: tell her to eat, make sure she goes out, see that she is well and doesn't crack, but there's so much more he could be helping with! A novel in a month is a fine exercise, and who is he to not... you know, give it a look over. Or offer assistance, or just act as a proper editor. The authors of the future are important.

And okay he might have gone a bit without rest and skipped a few meals, but he's about twenty pages into the questions and edits she was asking about. He can have something to eat and nap after he sees her tonight.

[Prompt D
The little paper petals started out with something along the lines of a more cohesive government, but as the wish goes on (and who really writes paragraphs about their wishes?), another train of thought creeps in. More emotion than written, more heartfelt than planned, the simple desire for second chances, a legacy ... and people he cares for that'd remain.

But that's not what he intended to come out when he was thinking of it, so he stuffs those petals in his pocket and starts to write down something about a proper governmental system. Pity that one or two drift away unnoticed.

[OR freestyle, whatever you want, man]

[Littering Hamilton, really? That's not particularly civic-minded of you.

At first, he's not inclined to pay all that much attention to the little slips of paper, honestly. He does see Hamilton up ahead, and they haven't had the smoothest of relationships since they both turned up here. Their first meeting amply demonstrated the mechanisms of this new world, the way that they could inadvertently exert power over the world around them. It had been a quick and surprising lesson. Not a pleasant one, though, for someone like Burr, who liked to keep his cards (and his emotional responses) close to his chest.

...That being said. He also notices how the little pieces of paper have Hamilton's hand scrawled all over them. And he has a sick sort of curiosity about what's so important that Hamilton felt the need to express himself on such an ill-fitted surface. Burr stoops to collect the petals, and to read them.

He ends up frowning. It's not his fault, it's not his fault, Hamilton is the one who wouldn't apologize, who gave no indication that he was going to do anything other than kill him.

...He ends up striding towards him - almost past him, actually. At the last second, he opens his fist, lets the petals fall at Hamilton's feet.]

Here. Wouldn't want you to lose these.

[Smooth bro, he couldn't even hand them to him? It's a small flash of annoyance, followed by creeping paranoia. The words had appeared as he thought about them, the feelings overcoming what he wrote.

But shit man, like he was going to stoop down to pick them up. Instead he just steps on some of the petals. That'll keep them in place. Just ignore the restless current of wind that seems to swirl around his foot for the moment.]

Mr. Burr, since when'd you start up on litter duty?

I believe the words you're looking for are "thank you".

[His tone is cool, which doesn't really match entirely with how he's feeling - annoyance masking guilt, or rather...annoyance that he even feels guilt in the first place.

Burr's arms are crossed over his chest as he stares at Hamilton. That little bit of wind is ignored. Could totally be natural, right?]

After all, the sentiments were very heartfelt. I figured you might want to hang onto them.
allshotsfired: (Allez vous faire...)

[personal profile] allshotsfired 2015-12-07 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[The wind could be natural, but that slowly spreading stain where the paper was? Yeah that probably isn't.

But oh, oh that makes him stop for a moment and his back goes rigid as he looks at Burr

You read it.

Weren't you Democratic-Republicans all about privacy?

[from the ground there's the sound of a small, almost imperceptible crack]

[There's something satisfying about having Hamilton on his guard. (He should know better, he should know all about Hamilton's ability to lash out. He does know, but he still takes pleasure in it.)

The stain might certainly be something, but he's focused on looking at Hamilton, at his posturing and his expression. Even the crack doesn't draw his gaze away.]

How else was I supposed to know if it was important or not? Did you want someone else finding those?

[Someone else finding them would be way worse. Obviously.]
allshotsfired: (you're talking small things to a giant)

[personal profile] allshotsfired 2015-12-07 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah who wants any rumors to grow, right?

Just it's too bad that I didn't write it. Take a piece, try to think, and it'll fill itself out without you askin'.

[He takes out a blank petal and offers it up, not even for a moment breaking eye contact. Go ahead Burr, eat your words. It's really good that Burr isn't paying attention, because okay no really that sounded like a bunch of crackling down there as well.]
rhymeswithsir: (won't I give her a specimen)

[personal profile] rhymeswithsir 2015-12-07 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
[If Hamilton isn't breaking eye contact, then he sure as hell isn't breaking eye contact. Not even if he can hear the crackling now, more clearly than before.]

I'm glad we agree.

[He continues to look placidly unbothered, tilting his head to the side a little. But yeah...no. He's not taking the petal. Nice try Hamilton.]

Well, that seems like a useful time-saver.

[He might seem unbothered but still. There's a hedge of flowers behind him, and even though they're not actually roses...an extremely sharp eye would catch that they seem to be sprouting thorns.

Because yeah, he knows they're about to get into it.]

[...shit that was something that shattered underfoot, wasn't it? Cool cool, no big, just ignore that.

He starts to put the paper back in his pocket, smiling and shit that's not a pleasent one. I mean it's not like, Jefferson-level, probably more like Madison. Yeah it's a "Madison back the hell down before I verbally make you regret being born" Smile.

Sure is, but I can see why you wouldn't use it. All you do is wait around for the right chance to drift by, don't ya?
