TEST DRIVE: OCTOBER
Welcome to
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
- Date reminders. Reserves open Thursday, September 24th and Applications open Thursday, October 1st.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try? The following emotions will have more effect than usual: fear, bravery, grief, joy, anger, and calm.
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• Prompt D: The weather is beginning to turn, which means the trees of Verens are beginning to shed their leaves much to the displeasure of one of the more "upper class" residential areas of the island. They certainly don't want to do it themselves so they're hiring out otherworlders and locals alike to do it for them -- but at a pittance of what the work is actually worth. This has lead to some pretty sour attitudes by most of the hired workers -- possibly including yourself.
Might as well get it done with as little grumbling as possible since it seems that the negative emotions of the poorly paid workers just cause the leaves to turn colors and fall faster, undoing any work they've done. At this rate, everyone will be here for hours.
• Prompt E: With fall comes the desire for all things reminiscent of fall. Including anything and everything pumpkin. One coffee shop is so popular for their special Spiced Pumpkin coffee and tea, that they're having a hard time keeping the ingredients in stock despite the long lines that are weaving out the door and into the sidewalk. Grumpy customers waiting in the fresh cooling temperatures outside are less than pleased, and some even grumble about the wait openly.
It all gets completely out of hand when one poor, lone employee walks out of the door and clears their throat -- explaining that they would be out of the in demand drinks until the day after next. An explosion of irate emotions cause the formerly crisp winds to pick up and wrap into miniature tornadoes! Mostly inconvenient, but perhaps a little destructive to things that are light enough to get tossed around. Looks like right now, finding somewhere else to get an afternoon pick-me-up is a good idea.
• Prompt F: Some shops are beginning to switch out their summer wares for things that are more friendly for the upcoming fall weather. This means quite a few of them are looking for extra hands. Perhaps you wouldn't mind lending a hand for some extra pocket money? One shop in particular is trying to give away their least popular products -- sunglasses that give the wearer a more sunny and welcoming personality.
Why were they unpopular you ask? Probably because of the slight and barely noticeable malfunction that seemed to make the enchantment on them work completely incorrectly. Instead of making the wearer much happier and receptive they only magnify the current emotion the wearer seems to have! Or worse, completely turn it upside down. Of course, this is all explained (very quickly, and barely understandably) as a representative swiftly places a pair in your hands!
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include something like raging bull and/or cart full of loose buckets.
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
Mairin | Pokemon (anime) [D; in which Mairin forgets that she is still kind of clutzy]
She didn't mind that the pay was low, she could use the money, so she tried her best to ignore her frustrations and focus on the good that'd come out of all of this! There was no point in getting upset over it, but at the same time, seeing all those dour-looking people, she couldn't help but wonder if maybe they had a point. Was the pay too low? Was it really that unfair?
She didn't want to add to the negativity (it was really bringing those leaves down and wasting everyone's hard work!), but she didn't want to stay quiet if everyone was really getting cheated out of their hard-earned pay.
So, just to make sure, she started climbing up the tree, to see how much work had been done and by how many people, despite her terrified little Pokemon flailing desperately at her not to (honestly, Chespie worries too much!), but—
That was when Mairin's foot slipped, and she caught onto nothing but air, and she wound up sliding down doing the splits to make sure both her feet pressed onto treebark.
Not that it stopped her downward plummet, down she slid, wearing out her shoes, her descent only stopping when a tree branch caught her from below.
"AaaaAAAH, MY BUTT'S STUCK!!"
All the panic and flailing may or may not be blowing a big whirlwind of confusion and scattering even more leaves, wow, sorry, guys...
no subject
"H-How... how the hell did you get stuck up there?!" she says, standing firm amidst the whirlwind. "... You know what, nevermind! Just calm down so I can come and get you down...!"
no subject
She's still new to this, Chris, she can't help it!
Chespie's not stuck, he's trying to get her down but having more than a little bit of trouble.... or he was, until the winds scattering leaves blew harder and he resorted to using the two vines protruding from his back to lash away leaves so they wouldn't cut her or Chris.
no subject
"Killiter Ichaival Tron..."
With those words spoken, Chris transforms in a flash of light. Seconds later, she's clad in an elaborate suit of armor with multiple blasters, thrusters, and what appears to be a metal skirt of some kind attached. She's able to fight through the whirlwind, and successfully leap up to where Marron is stuck, pulling her and her... pet free from the tree.
"Hold onto me!" she orders.
no subject
Mairin watched in wide-eyed fascination, completely confused, but also in awe!
"R-right!"
She held on, because really, what else could she do.
"Are you a superhero?"
Chespie clambered on too! Is it fine if he sits on one of the thrusters? He's not sure what any of this is, he just wants to keep a close watch on Mairin!
no subject
Chris grit her teeth, and... after a moment to brace herself, leaped forward through the whirlwinds, making sure to grab the spiny rodent thing to keep him from being thrown off.
They made it through, though when Chris landed, she skidded across the ground, her heels digging a few modest sized grooves in the process.
no subject
"WOAH!" Mairin was now practically climbing over her to get a good look over her shoulder at the trail she left. "That's amazing! You're really tough, you know that? Hey, hey, what's your superhero name?"
no subject
"... I'm Little Red Singing Hood and nothing else, got it? Now could you get down? I'm not a vehicle!"
no subject
While taking a short break Fu had witnessed the girl climbing the tree and the disaster that followed. Without hesitation or any of idea what she was going to do, Fu rushed to help. Despite her genuine concern and her greatest efforts to stay focused, Fu couldn't keep a straight face once she heard what the girl yelled.
"Is it brok-- I mean... Are you okay?"
no subject
Oh, in case it wasn't clear, the indelicate screamer in boyish clothes was, in fact, a girl!
The small, fretting creature below raised two vines, extending from its body and seemingly prehensile, to try and lift the girl, but her bottom really does seem to be wedged between those branches, oh dear...
If you app I'm going to make sure Mairin never forgets this. XD
"Relax! Relax! I'm sure you'd be able to tell if it was broken."
Not that Fu was some kind of butt expert or anything.
Strolling over to the little creature she tries to get a better look at the situation. Fu witnesses the failed rescue attempt and tries to come up with a way to help. Turning into her Hero form would be the easiest way to get the girl down, but she was supposed to keep that a secret.
"Hey, I don't think your friend is strong enough to pull you out!"
She turns to Chespie.
"Hey little guy, do you think you can lift me up there?"
GOOD, make her life awkward
It'd be really unfortunate if she were a butt expert, it'd make it very hard for her to introduce herself at social gatherings. "Hi, I'm Fu and I'm a butt expert. Profesionally speaking. Look, here's my business card and framed diploma!" On the other hand, she'd never be overlooked or forgotten!
Chespie nodded, loosening and drawing the vines back to twine around Fu's waist, to lift her up while keeping all limbs free. It's a little uncomfortable, but it should do the trick, right? "Ches-ches!"
Mission Accepted
Speaking of weird things, the sensation of being raised up by the little creature was a strange one. Fu could barely remember the last time she had been been picked up like this, but she knew that her parent's had done so when she was a little girl. It was nostalgic and yet very alien all at once.
"Well I still think we might need to get an expert opinion on that." Fu grinned, now at eye level with Mairin.
"You're really wedged in there. Here, grab my hands."
Fu planted her dangling feet against the trunk of the tree, bracing herself to pull Mairin out.
And what a noble one it is~
"Alright!" Mairin reached out, clasping Fu's hands tightly.
Chespie kept her aloft, prepared to pull them both once Fu got Mairin loose!
Indeed!~
"Here. We. GO!" She cried.
However, she hadn't really given much thought to what would happen once Mairin was free and had nothing to stand on but air. Oh well.
no subject
Fortunately, Chespie reeled them in, but only after they flew a good foot or two back (with no small amount of screaming from Mairin!), so they really got reeled in, like fish swung on a fishing pole.
Following that little trip, they were set gently down by a thoroughly exhausted Chespie.
no subject
Fu tightened her grip on Mairin's arms as they dangled in the air. Despite her small frame, Fu could feel the girl's full weight from this position. Fortunately she didn't have to keep a hold of Mairin for too long. Once they were back on the ground, Fu took a second to catch her breath.
"What a rush! I thought I was going to drop you."
She wouldn't have. Really. Fu knelt down to pat Chespie on the head.
"Good job back there!"
no subject
"Non, non, that definitely WAS something!" Mairin said, kneeling, hands on her knees as she smiled at Chespie. "You helped us both a lot!"
Mairin sprung back to her feet and grabbed both of Fu's hands (hope you don't mind, mademoiselle!) and shook them heartily. "We couldn't have done it without you, though!"
She's not dainty at all, despite her stature, the hearty handshake's comparable to that of a strong, boisterous gentleman.
no subject
If Karin had Yuna's energy, Fu imagined that her handshake would probably feel like Mairin's. Now that she had gotten a better look at the other girl's outfit, Fu saw that it would have been really easy to mistake for a boy from a distance.
"My name's Fu. What's yours?"
no subject
"Oh yeah, I'm Mairin! Me and my partner Chespie came all the way from the Kalos region."
Chespie offered a vine for a shake, since he couldn't exactly reach Fu from down there.
"We aren't professional leaf-collectors, in case you were wondering."
no subject
She pointed a finger at Mairin as though making a selection.
"What does it mean?"
France was dead nearly three hundred years before Fu was born so... no clue what that meant. It sounded cool though.
Fu took Chespie's vine and gave it a gentle shake. She grinned at the other girl's comment and said the first thing that popped into her head.
"You're not a professional butt-breaker, are you?"
