TEST DRIVE MEME: JULY
Welcome to
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
- Date reminders. Reserves open Friday, July 18th and Applications open Friday, July 25th. Game will begin Friday, August 1st.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: Create any scenario that could cause your character to display some kind of emotion, be it big or small, and write out how it changes the immediate area. Are there literal sparkles everywhere because they're so happy? Or is the ground starting to twist and warp due to their anger or frustration? Things exploding? Rain clouds? Since this is a test drive, don't worry about any limitations on effects—just write whatever comes to mind!
• Prompt B: The following are generic task board prompts that characters could have taken up as a job.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes…
• Prompt D: With the influx of people suddenly appearing, the locals are a bit on edge. So rather than having your character’s emotions affecting the environment, someone else's is affecting them! Maybe they were just passing by and someone had an emotional outbreak of sorts. Now they have to figure out how to deal with the aftermath—or will their own emotions make it worse? Needless to say, NPC godmodding granted 100%.
• Prompt E: Make your own! It can even involve booze and/or cats.
• Prompt B: The following are generic task board prompts that characters could have taken up as a job.
- You have to collect X number of materials. Find a partner to make it easier!
- There's a hostile creature attacking some of the neighboring farms. If you got a weapon, they could definitely use your help!
- How about helping around the town? Delivering something, helping patch up a sign, cleaning out some of those rusted gears—the locals would definitely warm up to everyone.
- Make up your own task/quest!
For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!

[ Though the concept of the communication is fascinating to him, and though Soren can see many uses for it, he has gotten quite sick of the inane questions that keep getting broadcast... So if he sounds a bit ... annoyed, well... ]

[And here she thought she would only be able to contact maybe one person thanks to her lack of interest in meditation. Still, she does sound a little annoyed back. Not the warmest return message, mind message- brain talk.
Whatever the heck it's called.]
I was just trying to see if anyone else from home ended up here, too. What's your name, mysterious voice in my head? [There's a strong hint of sarcasm in her thoughts.]
no subject
Soren. And although the amulets allow you to talk to one person at a time, if you don't focus specifically on talking to that one person, your initial message, at least, is broadcast at large.
[ And the warm buzzing sensation in creates in the back of his head is extremely distracting when Soren is trying to read. ]
no subject
[But she's not going to dwell in it, not when she's pretty sure everyone else has probably done it once or twice.]
This is a lot easier than I thought it'd be. Meditation takes a lot of focus, but I just have to think stuff. So, Soren, how long have you ICOULDREALLYGOFORSOMEWAFFLES been here exactly? Wherever here is I mean.
. . . now I could really go for some waffles too. ... damn it.
There are numerous places to acquire food, if hunger has you distracted. I have been here two weeks and five days. You're in a city called Verens on an island called Empatheias. Why you didn't ask the locals about this place is beyond me
[ Ok. So... maybe he isn't perfect at keeping stray thoughts out of such conversations, either. ]
they call to you, seek them out
I never said anything about food. [But she's hungry, so it's odd enough for her to sound confused. However, that's a good question. She should have asked the locals earlier.] Floating island, I know that part. I just didn't know the name of the city or the island. Do you know what's down below?
with syrup and butter on top....
. . . you interrupted yourself with a passing thought about waffles. Pay more attention next time.
[ A pause follows, filled only with a vague sense of troubled uncertainty before he makes an admission. ]
I don't know. So far I have simply been told it is dangerous and inhospitable.
no subject
So what you're saying is no one's actually looked. [Not exactly what he said, but she sounds a little too curious. Dangerous can be fun.] Thanks! That's what I needed to know.
no subject
[ He.... cannot deny that he's curious either, but his survival instinct dictates caution... ]

Sounds like Verens' library is due for an actual update. [Gung-ho, there's small traces in her thoughts of getting an airship and a small party together just under her mind's voice.] What do you think Soren, can you handle what's down there? We could use a book smart guy.
[There's not even a 'we' yet...]

I would not advise going down without planning ahead - it would only end in disaster if an exploration party failed to pack sufficient provisions or otherwise was unprepared.
[ And man, he doesn't even know this girl, but based on what he's gleaned so far, he isn't sure he has much faith in any expedition led by her -- though if she's capable in other ways besides planning, perhaps she might make an acceptable part of an expedition.
Either way, interesting as such an exploration might be, he is not yet convinced of its merit. ]

Yeah, I know. But finding out what's down there might help us out some way, maybe if even be a step to getting home. But- you're right. It'll take getting the right people together, and I don't know who all that is. Yet.
Thanks, Soren. I might bug you about it when I'm more ready now that I know your name.
no subject
Indeed. If properly planned and prepared for, such an expedition would be most interesting.
[ there's a pause full of indecision and then -- ]
For reference, I have experience as a tactician as well as with magic used both offensively and for healing. If that will assist you in figuring out what sort of make up you need.
