Welcome to empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

• Date reminders. Reserves open Monday, August 25th and Applications open Monday, September 1st.
  
  
• Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
  
  
• Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
  
  
• Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
  
  
• First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples!

Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!


PROMPTS

• Prompt A: Create any scenario that could cause your character to display some kind of emotion, be it big or small, and write out how it changes the immediate area. Are there literal sparkles everywhere because they're so happy? Or is the ground starting to twist and warp due to their anger or frustration? Things exploding? Rain clouds? Since this is a test drive, don't worry about any limitations on effects—just write whatever comes to mind! OR write a prompt where they're the ones being affected by someone else's emotion.

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes…

• Prompt D: How good is your character using an elemental core? They're magic-like rocks that have one of the three following elements: fire, air, and water. On their own they're not too bad, but they are quite sensitive to emotions. Be careful or that little handwarmer could suddenly create a small blazing inferno!

• Prompt E: Steampunk technology is a lot more advanced than basic medieval technology, but still inferior to modern day devices. No electricity, no cars—just this strange magitech, steam, and clockwork gear systems. How "tech savvy" is your character now?

• Prompt F: Make your own! It can even involve cake and rain.

For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!

Mephisto | Demon City Shinjuku

[Getting around to being approved as a doctor had been a bit irritating, but nothing he couldn't get through with relative ease, and all in all it had been necessary for his practice to be lawful. A shift in worlds did nothing to dampen his skills, and even here, setting up shop for those who needed help seemed the best route to take. He was sure there were many other things here he could apply his skill to, but when it all came down to it, he was a doctor, first and foremost, though he did have his own opinions of how things should work.

Which was why he'd worked to earn enough money to set up a small doctor's office of his own. Not anything like his hospital back home, but a place of healing where the sick and injured could come none the less.

As he looked up at the sign hanging above his door, indicating that it was a doctor's office, he couldn't help but feel a little pleased, though it didn't show on his face. The light around him seemed perhaps a bit brighter though.]

I have to admit I am curious.

[Mephisto's voice comes calm and collected, perhaps with a small hint of that curiosity he's admitting to.]

Most of us were pulled here, against our will, with no recollection of just how this unique kidnapping happened. And I personally can't help but wonder... What were you feeling, before arriving in this place?

If it is a land that thrives when strong emotions are had, then perhaps it is a theory as to how we were all spirited away. Assuming the land hold some form of sentience- which is not impossible-, then perhaps the emotion we all were feeling anchored us to it, and pulled us here.

[It is just a theory of course, certainly nothing he can prove right now. From what he's observed so far, everyone's emotional range seems different too, which makes it even curiouser to him.]

So my question stands; Just what were you feeling? Was it perhaps a new, unexpected emotion? Or was it something more usual, perhaps even a mundane, everyday emotion?

The technology in Empatheias was strange, even to Mephisto's eyes. It was rather intriguing, how everything worked. He was a doctor first, but also an inventor and scientist, wishing to know how everything worked. Though he perhaps didn't immediately seem it, he was a man who's curiosity knew no bounds. Though he'd already picked apart and put back together many of the things in his home, many machines, and certainly many of the weapons, still managed to catch his attention.

The use of the elemental cores, things that did not exist in his home, was especially curious to him.

Unfortunately, most of the technology he was curious about was much too large to be housed in his current home, however, he was not a man who easily gave up when something had caught his interest, so though it had required an unexpected use of money, he'd gotten his hands on some blueprints for a machine he'd been particularly interested in. All in the name of research.

So Mephisto could be found seated outside- it was a lovely day after all- looking over the papers he had obtained, every now and then noting something down on the corner of the paper.

[Go! Mao! continues to play when the demon looks back (and up) at Carlos, using the side of his arm to push his glasses up since his hands are kind of full. Carlos doesn't need his Danger Meter to tell him Mao is an EVIL GENIUS, at least not if he can spot the very clear signs like both of his lenses shining in a non existent light or his little fangs poking out from his lips when he grins. Well, at least Mao thinks he's an evil genius and that's really all he needs.]

Heheh.... You're offering to be a guinea pig, are you?

Hoh?

[Oooooh, people ould hear him. He'd forgotten. Mao grumbles a little before he responds]

You really wanna know huh?

[That was definitely another gooey gushing noise, followed by Mao's laughter.]

This is gonna be super annoying to clean up.

*That place he's taken over? Home to a bench where someone seems to be having a nice little nap.

Or, he was, at least. His instincts force him awake, and he sits up, tense. Light sleeper, this one, and out of necessity, it seems.

Unfortunately, his tension just causes the light to flare sharply right in his eyes and he flinches away. Can he stop getting blinded by things? Honestly? He's trying to explore here.

It's only when the sharp flare fades that he looks up to see the person standing in front of the building he was napping beside. He'd...probably blinded him, too, hadn't he?*

[Job. Job job job. At least a job would be easier than school, right? Usagi chews at her lip as she looks over the task board, her eyes scanning the descriptions as her finger passes down over the list. Under her breath she mumbles]

Ah.. nope. Nu-uh.... [Her eyebrows furrow and then arch at some of the... more interesting requests on the board before she spots It.]

Ah! Babysitting! Hehehe, I could do that! I bet it would be super fun, I wonder if the kids are cute... [Talking to herself, that's pretty great, Usagi. Really. She hasn't even noticed the one small problem. She's not a young adult.]

Someone, somewhere, must have had a really bad day or at the very least, been made very upset. At least that's the way it seemed to work sometimes in this place, as far as Usagi understood. It didn't make it any less inconvenient! In a puff of frustration Usagi let out a grumble, clenching her eyes shut and launched herself forward a full tilt -- straight into some other poor, unsuspecting pedestrian.

"W-wah!" Usagi yelped as her feet slipped from underneath her, her purse flying from her hand as its contents scattered across the sidewalk. "No! My purse...!" Her eyes were already starting to brim with tears, not that it was easy to tell considering the rain. Which of course, was slowly starting to wind up into an even harder downpour thanks to Usagi's emotional contribution.

Don't worry she'll be full of apologies in no time, poor stranger.

{She has to think about that. What was she feeling before arriving to this place? Nervous... She wasn't sure what was going to happen as they went through the Temporal Rift.}

I guess I was really nervous.

Stern, but not unreasonable. If you want an audience... You'd better make sure you have a good reason for it. She doesn't seem the sort to take kindly to people wasting her time.

O-oh! Right! Let's go!

{Going after them with her.}

Modern? What does your world have that this one doesn't?

Is that... hard to do?

[Usagi double takes, not having noticed when the other girl showed up at the task board.]

Huh? [Wait. She was talking out loud wasn't she? She laughs somewhat sheepishly, scratching the back of her head.]

It can't be too hard right? You play with them and make sure they eat of course... [she purses her lips.] And make sure they go to bed!

[Emphatic nodding. This totally answered the question, right?]

There doesn't seem to be many jobs for me to do... Good luck with the baby sitting if you decide to do it, miss.

I see. So you were feeling nervous.

[He jots this down on some paper, though there's no way for her to know that of course. It wouldn't really be proper research though, if he's not making a record of people's answers.]

To what degree, if I may ask?

[He had noticed the man, but as he didn't seem to be in any sort of distress, Mephisto had seen no harm in letting him continue sleeping. That bright flash of light has him quickly shielding his eyes with a hand, and he only lowers it when lighting conditions return to normal.

The apology gets a thin smile, so slight that it's barely even there, really.]

It's alright. No harm done.

[Was that wolf really reading the board? Then again some demons looked like beasts too, except this certainly wasn't a cu sith.]

[Those are some pretty unsettling thoughts he ever heard. Even by the standard Emizel was more accustomed to.]

W-what are you doing..?

[That response back wasn't so intentional either. That worry, uneasiness was obvious.]

I... I don't know... What if we went through the wrong rift...? What if things turned bad?

[Rift? Oh, now this is interesting.]

I'd appreciate it if you could explain what you mean by 'went through the wrong rift'. And if you appeared here before or after entering it?

{More than anything else, she had just been thinking out loud.}

Uhm well... It was a Temporal Rift to be exact... My friends and I were going after some people. I appeared here after going through it.

[demonphysician]

[Curious. He'll write that down.]

So you and your friends entered this Temporal Rift then... Are you the only one who ended up here?

[sharpintuition]

{She shook her head lightly}

I thought I was, but later on I found the rest of my friends.
