If you must know, the thorns to one's butt can be interpreted in many ways. One would think it's made to induce pain out of self defense as no semi-sentient plantform would approve of burning. But in some areas of the maze it has another meaning. Perhaps the plants actually enjoy the ravages of fire, fire lilies bursting forth in response along with sudden large, thorny protrusions.
