Task Board: July
In addition to the standard business jobs, there are also independent jobs, or "tasks," that can be done by anyone. These jobs are posted in a large central bulletin board located in a building called The Task Center in Merchant's Square. It's overseen by a group who collects the fees, posts the listings, monitors who takes what, and gives the appropriate payment. These are more "mercenary" like in the sense that anyone can post one and anyone can take it. They range from asking for a helping hand to run an errand to gathering a hard to get item to exterminating a dangerous monster roaming too close to farms. Some jobs may even be related to the plot or an event. Jobs are an excellent way to not only get money, but also to create emotion drops because most jobs require more than one person. Even if the job itself could be done solo, it is still possible to bring in a friend to help. Unless the job specifies, there is nothing preventing the job taker from asking for aid. We do encourage that those taking the more "quest" like jobs to bring in a partner. In addition, characters are free to create their own businesses (and subsequently their own tasks), and we double the task board as a way to keep track of them. Feel free to play around with the jobs. Some can even become mini plot events with the right people, and players can create jobs in relation or as a reaction to a posted job. You don't have to feel like you need to restrict yourself to the small blurb in the description, either, so have fun with it! For more information on the task board, see this post. |
LEGEND: White for Verens. Yellow for Shaarnath. Pink for Theasthai. Light blue for Briarlan. Red for Plot. Purple for Excursion. INSTRUCTIONS: Each task has a code that is linked to its own top-level in the comments section of the post. If you'd like to sign up for a particular task, click on the link for the respective task and put your character's name on the subject line. If the task is done by multiple characters, put all the character names in the subject. When applicable, threads will be frozen once sign-ups for that particular task are closed. Questions about the tasks can be directed here. Task suggestions can be made here. In order to make sure that player-submitted tasks can be integrated into the Board in a timely manner, we ask that tasks be submitted no later than five days prior to the start of the coming month. Otherwise, it will be included the following month. Thank you! |
GENERAL TASKS | ||||
GT0701 | John McLeonnon | I want to see more songwriters in this city! Please collaborate with a friend and write a song! It can be about anything as long as it's inspirational and touches the heart! Submit all lyrics to #4 Penny Road once finished. | 1,500 sylvs | Open |
GT0702 | Paul Carthur | The power of dance is contagious! Come to #6 Abbey Lane and grab some of these crystals and record yourself and a friend dancing to some tunes! Once done, return the crystals. I will be using these dance moves for my band's next performance. | 500 sylvs/person | Open |
GT0703 | Terren | I would like to hear a choose-your-own-adventure story. Broadcast one over the network and know I will be listening closely! | 350 sylvs delivered via Messenger Bird | Open |
GT0704 | Franz | My apothecary was robbed last week and now my herbs, potions and tonics are being sold all throughout the markets! Steal them back and return them to me. They have a purple label with a picture of a fish on the packaging. | A lifetime discount to my shop | Open |
GT0705 | Boarded Up!! (Name pending) | We are hoping to open a recreational sand boarding business in Sharnaath, complete with lessons and a board rental service! In this interest, we are looking for brave people to test board prototypes and various sand dunes to determine which are the best for our purposes. | 300 drasks | Open |
GT0706 | Baron and Baroness von Elici | We are looking for a few hardy people to look after our thirteen children for a few weeks this summer. This is only for the day, as we both have jobs, and our mansion and all amenities are available for your usage. Three meals a day, ensure they practice the piano, and do not let them in the attic! | One flawless cut diamond per person | Open 7/1 to 7/15 |
SPECIAL TASKS | ||||
ST0701 | Jim Curry | I've applied some elements from the Memory Tree and emotion magic to these masks of mine and I need some testers! Come to my office, take a mask, and let me know what happens! (OOC Note: The mask can only be worn for an hour before it breaks and turns into sand. Once worn, it makes the wearer relive (have a very vivid flashback that freezes them for about a minute) up to 3 memories of their past at any point in time during the said one hour.) |
3,000 sylvs and a free haircut at one of the salons in Verens | Open |
ST0702 | Dr. Hemswain | I have developed a tonic that when consumed by two people in close physical proximity allows the drinkers to share their memories when dreaming, and even retain some measure of control over their shared dream. I wish for a minimum of two participants to spend the night in my lab, share their dreams, and consent to be interviewed about the experiment the next morning. The contents of the interview may end up published in an academic journal. | Breakfast the next morning, notoriety in academic circles, and 1,500 sylvs per person | Open to groups of two or more |
ST0703 | Shaarnath City Guard | Thanks to those who chose to assist us last month in trying to learn more about the vandals that have been loose in the city. Instances of vandalism have still occurred, but the frequency has dropped dramatically. While we have yet to identify any of the individuals involved, our search has been significantly narrowed. We are seeking volunteers to stake out a number of locations throughout the month of Tessa in order to locate the entrance to the vandals’ lair, as it has become clear to us that we are dealing with an organized group. We ask that you do not engage with any of the vandals should you encounter them. Please report to Guard HQ for more information. (OOC Note: Volunteers will be given maps and coordinates to one of seven locations within the city. Three locations will be legitimate, and closely following any of the hooded figures that appear will reveal hidden doors built into the walls or floors of shops. These doors will not budge for anyone but the vandals, but locating them will confirm their legitimacy. Two of the locations will be duds, with no activity of note throughout the month. The remaining two will be traps, and following the vandals into either of these locations will result in the investigators being locked in a room containing either a nest of venomous snakes or a pair of starved, full-grown wyverns desperate for their next meal. The vandals will make their escape while the investigators are trapped, but finding a way to defeat or otherwise neutralize these threats should be manageable for those who are resourceful. The locks on the doors are easy enough to break; the real trick is keeping a safe distance between yourself and the snakes or wyverns in order to do so.) |
300 drasks | Open to groups of two or three. |
ST0704 | Madam Thorne | I’m in the process of refining a particular performancy technique: getting cutlery to dance on command. Unfortunately, my cutlery has escaped! I simply cannot start over with a new batch; I gave this batch names and personalities. Please track them down. You are searching for four plates, four forks, four spoons, and one teapot. (OOC Note: The cutlery escaped to Briarlan, where they are attempting to join a pirate crew! Feel free to NPC the crew however you like.) |
An expensive dollhouse | Open |
ST0705 | Tick-Tock Hiram | Poppa Pecorino has disrespected me for the last time. He thinks he can push me out of the business? I'm gonna take everything he's got! He owns several restaurants around Briarlan, and I need them "closed" if you know what I mean. ((OOC Note: All of the establishments are heavily guarded at night, because they are all just fronts for pirate-mafia business. Feel free to wreck anything at will! )) |
30, 000 sylvs and a pack of cigars | Open |
ST0706 | Beastmaster Hunting Guild | This month’s hunts are significantly different in that most of the creatures presented do not pose any threat to the people of Verens, and are incredibly rare. With the exception of the Ensen, we ask that you do not kill the following marks, but instead bring back their parts while doing as little harm as possible, so that their dwindling population may be preserved. These parts are valuable reagents requested by our local Alchemist’s Guild, and hunters will be paid handsomely for their efforts. Thaoris: Thaoris look similar to horses, but have three horns protruding from their foreheads, with the males and females easily distinguished from one another. The males have two wings and are pale green in color, while the females have four wings and are pastel purple.They are shy of people and incredibly difficult to find, but their feathers are known for their magical properties. Clip a feather or two from a Thaoris, put them in a jar and submit them to guild headquarters. Though locating one will take some time, Thaoris can be found in the mountains and have a fondness for beautiful melodies and harmonies. Lure them out with your sweetest song, and take care not to injure them while procuring feathers! Lily Swan: Lily Swans can be found in the forest, and despite their name, they resemble rose bushes. Their flowers serve as a potent component in many potions and healing salves. Take care while clipping the flowers; the Lily Swans won’t give them up quietly. They are known for their shrill, high-pitched and painful screeching, and it is recommended that you wear earplugs during this particular task. If you do not take care to protect yourself, the Lily Swan’s shriek can make a person go deaf for a full day. These creatures are extremely agile despite having roots for feet, so tread carefully. Ensen: Much like the Thaoris, the Ensen live in the mountains, but they are both easier to find and far more deadly. They look like giant blue boulders that have feet and hands, and possess incredible strength. These creatures are surprisingly weak to fire, but gain strength if their surroundings catch fire themselves, drawing power from the ashes. Make sure only to burn the Ensen themselves, not the grass or trees. Take one of their eyes upon defeat. Make sure you crush the Ensen after they have been weakened by fire and killed, otherwise they will come back to life. |
Thaoris: 4,000 sylvs/Feather Inedible Lily Swan: 5,000 sylvs/Rose Inedible Ensen: 8,000 sylvs/Eye Inedible |
Open to groups of 2 or more. |
