A [Shirley's sitting cross-legged on the beach around Port Niras for her first attempt at focusing emotions, only just enough distance between her and the point where shore meets water to avoid getting splashed. She doesn't really need to do that, probably, but although crystallizing emotion surely isn't the same as prayer it helps to use the act as a starting point in her head. And a Ferines always prays to the water - even if Nerifes isn't here in this world.
At the moment she's feeling more trepidation than anything, but Shirley tries to shove that aside and focus on the last things she remembers feeling at home, before she ended up in this strange city. The recall is easy: her relief at Senel's safety and the calm certainty she felt with him, hope for the future and the Ferines people as they move forward from--
And then something in her stutters, and her concentration is broken. Shirley looks down at her amulet and frowns, seeing that a single tiny drop has formed but nothing more.]

F2 [In retrospect, Shirley really shouldn't have taken a job in childcare when she was always the one being babied by other people. She realizes too late that she hasn't interacted with a two-year-old child...well, ever, and that they tend to do more than just sit and cry.
All of that has led Shirley here to the park, where she's frantically trying to soothe one toddler wailing about wanting the stroller to take his doll for a walk while another takes a little too much interest in a jungle gym. Where is the third one even right now?]
