We don't know for certain, but we believe that slaying the enemy in question will dispel the curse. With them gone, there would be no magical power to sustain it.

[And even that is a tall order. Their foe is literally revered as a god, after all. They do have the single weapon believed to have the power to do the job, so there's at least a chance, however small it may be, of victory.]
