just to ride along...

Hey guys!

Overcastwatch cast have built a plot for you guys we'd like to go ahead and get rolling alongside of everything else that's going on thi smonth. AS A GENERAL PSA we are referencing drug usage/trafficking and a few other mature subjects, so anything else is going under the cut- aside from a note this is completely 100% opt-in and you do not have to be involved/affected by it if you don't want to be.

So to launch right in to things, there's a Secretive New GangTM in town taking advantage of all the criminal...stuff that's already going on. Chaos making chaos and all that. Along with the usual misdemeanors associated with organised crime, they have also started to push a new emotion-based drug created partly from crushed crystals, which produces in its users an intense, rapturous high that also has potentially deadly side effects. Calling it Spike, they have, for the most part, managed to successfully conceal their activities through the use of weaponized emotions by some of the gang's key members- including the ability to alter a witness' emotional memories of events, either to scare them into silence or override incriminating thoughts.

PCs are invited to stumble on their activities and set about enacting justice on them however they see fit - however, there's a twist. Some (upon OOC sign-up) will find themselves quickly framed for various (potentially serious) crimes as the gang tries to cover their tracks, and otherwise be held up while other PCs race to try and prove their innocence - or otherwise proving that someone else is at fault, uncovering the gang's activities. There's also the option of trying the drug themselves, which, as mentioned, gives an intense high before followed by a just-as-intense-if-not-greater low, absolutely to and beyond the point of impaired judgement. Not all of the deadly side effects are physical.

As a courtesy, we would like to ask that players take any addressing of having their characters try Spike very seriously, as this has the impact to affect the game as a whole even with those trying to avoid the plot. That's aside from it being a very delicate subject to begin with. This is not intended to be an, "LOL 420 BLAZE IT" plot, though as a heads up there will be at least one Task Board re; trying a variant of Spike that will have reduced emotional extremes under the cover of pharmaceuticals. Despite all the gifs, it's supposed to be more focused on the criminal shenanigans - I've (Toni) just got a particular sense of humor and want to try and lighten things up after insisting BE SERIOUS BE SERIOUS because in the end this is just trying to engage some drama/action.

There'll be a few other task-board related items related to this, and we'll make it OOCly obvious which ones are which so that those who don't want to get involved can avoid it - and those who do, can get right in the thick of things. We're also open to PCs being part of the gang itself, whether knowingly or not. (Undercover, anyone?)

Endgame is currently visualized to be a final bust of the gang involving local law enforcement and as many PCs who want to be involved. Ideally, we're looking at this to run in the background over about a month or so, though there can be some fallout that runs later.

Because this plot, again, deals with some mature subjects, we don't want to feel like we're pushing it on anyone; while we understand that having a character's CR framed can affect them, we're hoping that there's enough options in how to react that nobody OOCly feels pressured to go a direction they want to avoid. Especially with the gang itself *trying* to be secretive, we're working to give IC reason for characters to be able to go about their daily lives without being troubled with it. That said, please let us know if there's any questions or concerns, or whatever other thoughts you have on this!

i aint necessarily saying han would be framed for something since he stays far away from the drug scene these days, but he DID get arrested for smuggling drugs a year ago and he DID throw a shitload of npcs under the bus to lower his sentence, so, if someone were to be looking over public records and saw this and became suspicious, or if a rando npc happened to decide this might be a good time for some payback...that would be pretty funny (for me, not for han, HEH)

han runs a shipping business out of the airship docks, and i would imagine he avoids jobs from people he knows are into shady stuff, but if something looks legit and he didn't know there were drugs inside that might do, as long as he didn't end up serving jail time. not super interested in doing that with him again, lol.

but him getting harassed by investigators is totally fine. like taken in for a day and questioned then reluctantly let go (i say reluctantly because he is going to be SO OFFENDED and also probably an ass about it).

Ana-mun here. I do believe that the jobs will look legit on the surface (or at least a couple will), so very possible for Han to get caught up without him knowing. It's something that we can definitely work out :3

I am still in the process of hashing out things but I guess I might as well throw out this tentative idea here!

Jade's been busy replicating (hah) gels (a healing item from his world) and their effects in Emp and while he's mostly successful with the endeavor, it's not without birthing pains in the sense that they weren't always like this (i.e. have the revitalizing/healing effect associated with the item without any unintentional side effects). There's been a task for it last January and yeah he's had several batches that had some weird effects (mostly harmless but they're on the negative side). It's not exactly the same as making emotion drugs from crushed crystals and what not, but there's a small precedent for him being framed (and maybe arrested?) for it should he choose to investigate (because he will, oops). He's also had a history of taking down a local gang too, so this might be an interesting way to have that event from last October bite him in the ass (like, maybe some stragglers from that gang wanting revenge on him or something). That, and he's been gel-pushing since November of last year and continues doing it on and off.

Anyway, just throwing out the idea! The reason why this is tentative is (1) I'm still checking on how comfortable players of his close CR would be regarding the matter (2) Realistically I don't think I'll be able to thread anything heavy for this plot during the month of May, if you planned to have the accusations being flung as early as this month.

Let me know if you guys need me to elaborate on any point! I do find this plot interesting and would like to pursue it should the stars align.
jeido: From my unreleased Tales of TV scans, please ask first before taking (there's always that option)

Yes, something along those lines! One thing I'd like to know as well is whether or not there's a set date for whenever he gets framed and subsequently arrested, if only because I have a very busy May both IC-ly and OOC-ly! If it's possible to have things on June instead that would work pretty well for me, but if everything's set for May already, I think I'll have to bow out.

Ana-mun here, but it looks like things are probably going to be moving for a June set-up, so hopefully that works out for you /o/

Hello! Tagging-wise, June is definitely better for me! As for the IC timeframe, do you guys have an idea how it looks like? I've committed Jade to some stuff happening during the first week of June and have other things planned out as well for the month, though the rest can be arranged around or plotted around this player plot if ever. I don't want to throw any unnecessary wrenches into already laid out plans though, so do let me know if being unavailable IC-ly for the first week of June ends up conflicting with the plan!

Oh that's understandable! We don't have a strict schedule on hand, but we understand that folks have plans and stuff so we'll try to make sure people have the flexibility to jump in as they can. I'll double-check with Soldier-mun and see what can be worked out!

I'm game for throwing Solas up for being framed.

He's got some knowledge/materials for making herbs and potions, also may or may not have introduced a dozen foreign herbs to Verens, with at least one being a hallucinogen if eaten them straight up. Couple that with him being a thorn in the side of some gangs for the sake of clearing the streets, there could be motivation to frame him.

Probably would be something easy to clear up but he's probably going to make this so much worse for himself by being about as cooperative as a cat getting a bath.

Less of a question, more of I have a character that can totally go undercover given that she's a former spy of sorts and would have a lot of experience (Six years, give or take), if you want her to get involved in it.

Ana-mun here filling in for Soldier-mun for now, but that's pretty awesome! I think eventually a skill like that would come in handy with getting to the bottom of things /o/

Also in the same vein as [personal profile] likepawpaw there - Hei has a double identity and would be interested in taking a look at the issue too. Normally he's on the opposite side of the law but he's got a vested interest in making sure shit stays safe in Emp since he actually likes it here. Generally though, Hei here is an assassin and undercover operative. He would be wearing a mask so not to expose his true identity, something like the icon.

After seeing the network post, he'd probably do some of his own checking - and I'll hit up that post shortly too. Maybe because of his disguise, they might suspect him a little? He totally looks like a shady asshole. IDK, just throwing the possibility out there, in case you'd be interested in another cog in the works - don't want to mess up anything you all have planned though. If you're interested in more details, let me know.

Ana-mun here filling in for Soldier-mun for now. It's cool if Hei looks into things, I think a couple characters will probably do something along those lines once this kicks off /o/ And it's quite possible some might eye him if he looks like someone shady. What sort of details did you have in mind?
