TEST DRIVE: October
Welcome to
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
- Date reminders. Reserves open Sunday, September 24 and Applications (Canon | OC) open a week later on October 1st. Apps will only be open for four days!
- OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus, those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
- Transfer to in-game. If accepted, you can assume threads made on the Test Drive happen in-game if the scenario can reasonably fit. These threads do not count toward AC.
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• Prompt D: With the crystal having been mysteriously stolen, the weather has been nothing but uncooperative, lately. Actually, uncooperative is an understatement. Just yesterday, it was raining frogs! Now, well…
• Prompt E: It's safer to stay indoors given the strange weather, but you can't help but go out in the streets and explore! You're in a new world, after all. There is so much to see! Of course, when it begins to rain cats and dogs (either literally or figuratively), you look for a place to hide. Somehow, you've managed to enter a building that's dark, only lit by a flame in the middle of the room. There are a lot of hooded men and women surrounding the flame.
• Prompt F: While Halloween does not exist in this world, Otherworlders have been present long enough for the natives to slightly change their calendar. For the month of Empta (October), they wish to make sure the Otherworlders are feeling at home by celebrating Halloween! They know nothing about it, but they are going to try and replicate the feeling!
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include cat ears and/or nail polish.
Now, well…
- In the Sky with Diamonds. You might be walking in the streets or in the safe confines of a building when it begins to hail. It's not just any ordinary hail. Instead of ice falling from the sky, it's little beads and pieces of… you guessed it: diamonds! Some are actually fake, but there are some that are genuine. Only the experienced eye will be able to tell. The catch is, it only rains diamonds for ten seconds. And in this short span of time, people have gone berserk over the stone. Looks like some are eager to sell what they've collected, while some are fighting over what "should be theirs". Are you one of those people opportunistic enough to make money out of this, or are you doing something else of your own?
- One in a Melon. The crazy weather has not only been affecting the people living in Empatheias, but also the flora and fauna. The fruit stands everywhere have been selling all kinds of hybrid fruit, ranging from melons the size of a building to blue grapes that taste like chocolate! The latter sounds oddly delicious, truth be told. The vendors are all for giving free samples to anybody who passes by, too. In fact, there's one fruit stand that seems to be selling really well. Investigate, and you'll be given a slice of pineapple! Take a bite, and it tastes like Hawaiian pizza. Is this heaven or hell?
• Prompt E: It's safer to stay indoors given the strange weather, but you can't help but go out in the streets and explore! You're in a new world, after all. There is so much to see! Of course, when it begins to rain cats and dogs (either literally or figuratively), you look for a place to hide. Somehow, you've managed to enter a building that's dark, only lit by a flame in the middle of the room. There are a lot of hooded men and women surrounding the flame.
- Welcome! When they notice someone else enter, they all look at the door's direction. "Ah! It seems we have a new arrival. Welcome to the Ortheias. You are now in a world where your magic can change the emotions of people. What is your name?"
It looks like you've entered the headquarters of some roleplaying cult. Try and leave, and they will explain to you that nobody can leave. Nobody even knows why they're here. And then someone will casually whisper to you these exact words: "As an OOC Note, we will all leave in an hour and half from now." Do you create a character, or do you play as yourself? - Getting Acclimated. With everyone in the room doing their own thing and "gathering relationships", as they so put it, you've been left to your own devices. Do you talk to other people who might be stuck here for an hour and half, or do you practice your "Emanis"? It seems that this fictional world they've created lets each person manipulate the other person's emotions by casting spells. A short display of fire can make someone angry, or making flowers appear out of nowhere might make the other person happy. Of course, these are all fake and the cult just narrates their usage of magic without actually displaying it.
- An Event! Towards the end of the roleplaying session, the "roleplay moderator" announces an event! One of the guardians of Ortheias, the Durathei of fire and ice, Seesonne, has attacked the city of Snerev! A part of the city is now burning, while the other half is encased in ice! What would you do in this situation? People are panicking, so you must stop them from worrying too much!
- Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo. For the rest of Exi (September), farmers are asking Otherworlders to help them harvest pumpkins. Thanks to the strange weather recently, these pumpkins have grown to be the size of a car. They're rather big! What's more, they've also grown legs and can run! It appears they don't want to be caught, but anyone who gives chase will be able to get them to stop easily. Just chop off its legs! And to make it inanimate, one has to carve a face on it.
- What's Your Favourite Scary Story? To prepare for what's to come next month, the natives are asking Otherworlders to go to the Welcome Centre every weekend for a meeting of sorts. One will be able to find refreshments and snacks there, and there are a lot of people listening to speakers who rotate every so often. It seems these speakers are talking about their favourite scary stories. Perhaps you're one of the listeners, or you're speaking and sharing yours! Things are beginning to be spooky, though, that's for sure.
- It Leaves a Good Taste in Your Mouth. Children are selling cookies door-to-door, and the only type of cookies they're selling are maple leaf cookies. It's only 10 sylvs a box, and taking just one bite will send one to heaven! It's so delicious that it might make anyone who eats it react in a strange way (the video is just an example, not the exact reaction). Spectate at how people react to these maple leaf cookies, or be the one that gathers a lot of attention!
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include cat ears and/or nail polish.
For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
Sae Niijima | Persona 5
The weather has certainly been... interesting. Not that Sae expected any real sense of normality in a world such as this (and she still wondered if she was dreaming), but it would have been nice to not have to worry about what sorts of things were going to start falling on her head the second she stepped outside.
Today, it's diamonds. Sae can't help but stare in astonishment.
"Is this sort of thing common here...?" she muses to herself, shaking her head and pinching the bridge of her nose. "Just what have I fallen into?"
She's properly armed with an umbrella over her head, but that doesn't mean she's protected from the swarming people who are clamoring around for whatever stones they can get their hands on. Sae is of course standing in the way, so she ends up being nearly knocked over, having to stumble several steps before regaining her balance.
"Watch where you're going," she scolds the offender, but by the time she's gotten it out of her mouth, she's already lost track of who it might have been, thanks to the crowd shoving people around. A few final stones pelt her on the head, and she lets out a quiet ow before sighing.
"Ugh, this is preposterous..."
Sae picks a diamond(?) out of her hair, turning it between her fingers. After a moment, she spots someone out of the corner of her eye and turns to them, still holding the gem up to bring attention to it.
"You wouldn't happen to have any expertise with precious stones, would you?"
She doesn't exactly have a steady job yet, so she has to take what she can get for now. A part of her wonders if money might start growing on trees.
E:
All Sae wanted was a brief reprieve from the awful downpour of choice for the hour, just like everybody else. Too caught up in avoiding whatever happened to be falling from the sky this time, she hadn't paid enough attention to where she'd been going, and ended up... somewhere highly suspect.
Suffice to say she isn't happy about being effectively locked up for an unknown period of time, and as she's arguing with a hooded figure to let her leave, the nearby metallic objects are beginning to rust, including her own earrings. Sae can be a patient woman when it counts, but right now that's being tested.
The whisper does not help.
"What does that even mean?" she demands, raising her voice. "Does anyone here actually bother making sense?"
If someone doesn't calm her down, she may very well start threatening the people in her way. It's not a tactic she likes to use, but she has places to be, and this is not one of them.
G/Wildcard:
[Hit me up either at this journal or
d, also screaming
Nope! That's usually Akira's job.

... Right. [You know, at this point Sae wouldn't put it past the leader of the Phantom Thieves to have that kind of skill as well. For now, she pockets the gem.]
Is he here as well, then? [Right to business it is. It's not like there's any reason to question why or how Futaba is here, since Sae doesn't actually know much behind her own presence on the island. Better to get a better idea of the situation.]

Peridot had been inside when the brief rainfall had happened, and she looked in horror at what Sae was holding. The tiny figure moved and nearly grabbed it out of her hand.
"You...you clod! You can't do that to the Diamond Authority!"
She might be a Crystal Star now, but she also knew this could turn really bad. Her hand moved over to bubble it even as she's starring at it in slight fear muttering to herself.
"White Diamond? No...that's impossible, no one could...and it's not shattered...oh!...Oh phew." The green bubble pops and she throws it back at Sae. "This is a fake."
CASE CLOSED?
no subject
"Authority...?"
She's just barely gotten her composure back by the time the fake diamond is thrown back at her, though she at least manages to save a bit of her dignity and catch it without any flailing. Just what was that about? It seemed a bit different from all the others running about for the sake of their own greed.
"Well. Thank you, I suppose."
Should she ask? Is she going to regret asking? A part of her says yes, and yet... curiosity pushes her onward.
"If I may... you seemed awfully concerned about it."
no subject
What a stupid idea. She looks back at Sae, shrugging.
"Having them here would have been trouble...to put it lightly."

D-1 ... i swear i'm supposed to be on hiatus here and yet! (i... apologize for the length)
The person who slammed into him has already run off by the time he hears the familiar voice.
He's in the process of gently tugging at his shirt in an effort to straighten it back out, actually, when he finds himself suddenly freezing in place. Hell, even the surprised blink freezes in an almost awkward way, leaving him actually staring hard at the ground for a split second. By the time he looks up, he's managed to work his expression into something less ridiculous. The hand shielding his head from the gems is briefly unsteady, though he manages to slowly curl and uncurl his fingers, each breath slow and steady.
There's a hard swallow before he manages a smile. A smile that doesn't reach his eyes, of course. He's already putting every ounce of focus into keeping his thoughts in check, for as little use as it is. There's the start of a cloud forming behind him, an occasional spark of electricity around his hands, and even a small amount of ice forming a thin layer around his feet. So many different emotions are swelling within him. He hates it.
"Well, this is a pleasant surprise. I certainly never expected to run into you, Sae-san," he says, tone not quite so pleasant as it is a forced kind of calm, "This is... certainly some interesting weather we're having, wouldn't you say?"
...Right. The weather. He's resorting to the fucking weather, because he can't actually manage any other topic right this very second. Heh... it's almost as though all of the thoughts and experiences he's endured since his arrival have momentarily been tossed aside. His gaze flicks away, and he's briefly watching a person scramble for a gem -- that's what it will likely appear he's doing, anyway. In truth, he's looking at them without actually watching anything they're doing. There's a silent, somewhat heavier exhale before he lets the smile ease from his face entirely. Why bother, when she'll learn everything soon enough (that is, if she hasn't already)?
"At this rate, everyone from our time will arrive," he says, a small, somewhat dry smirk just barely tugging at the corner of his lips.
There are some he might be less-than-excited about possibly showing up, of course. There's a brief pause, before he quietly asks, "Have you encountered any others from home?"
don't worry... i'll keep ur secrets ;l (also sshh i love it)
"Akechi-kun...!?"
But he had gone missing, hadn't he? There had been no trace of him anywhere, after Masayoshi Shido's apparent change of heart—and that was even putting aside the rest of the issues with the so-called detective prince. She can't help but struggle for words for the moment, even as she recalls that notion of people from different "times" arriving in this place. Knowing is one thing, but accepting is another entirely, as is expecting...
Still, he's trying so hard to act normal, even going so far as to discuss the weather... but then, all of it had been an act, hadn't it? Every moment between them had been a deception. She wonders how he could stand to keep that up, with everything he's done.
(Sae can admit, however, that this weather is actually something worth discussing.)
She lets out a breath before responding. Even if she knows the young man's true nature now, there's not much to be done about it here. And for the time being, he seems fine to let down a part of that facade she'd become so familiar with. It seems fair to reciprocate that with some honesty of her own.
"Only Futaba-chan so far, though she told me about a few of the others."
The prosecutor folds her arms, her composure regained. She'd have to investigate soon to see how many others they knew where here, so she didn't get taken by surprise again.
"She failed to mention you were here as well, however."
you're the best (I'M GLAD since. i mean... /vague gesture at the everything)
Incidentally, there are a lot of things he could be saying or doing to "make the most" of his time here, as Kurusu had insisted. He could be talking more to the members of the Phantom Thieves. He could be reaching out more. Some part of him knows all of this, and yet... Heh. No scenario that plays through his head ends favorably for either party. While a firm punch to the face had been one hell of a way to get him to finally, really listen to someone and maybe take some words to heart, it doesn't have him running around and begging for forgiveness.
Even without the warning from Mishina -- the mention that this will be hard, that forgiveness is only for the other person -- he wouldn't be doing that. Besides, making amends here won't fix anything back home; they would return to their time, in their world, and remember none of this. While he will only be going back for the sake of no longer existing.
So, while he's dropping the empty smile and the possibly far-too-forced, calm tone, he isn't dropping everything. No, there's still some level of force behind his voice and his expression. Especially at her words. Especially at the mention of-... ah...
He's holding a blink for just a second longer than necessary, eyes opening to rest on her, and then rest off to the side. Unfortunately for him, his eyes give it away. That first conversation he had with her, with Oracle, back in the jungle, replays in his head, even now. And even without his eyes to give it away, there are the clouds darkening in color, thickening as one corner of his lips lifts in the faintest of wry smiles.
Either Sae's already learned everything during her time back home by now, so nothing will be a surprise to her... or she'll be learning everything from him for the first time. Whichever the case, he might as well go ahead and confirm what she does or doesn't know. A quiet breath escapes and he turns more towards her, his fingers curling and uncurling as he tries to will away the small sparks that occasionally dance along them. One hand moves to rest on his hip, the other hand just barely gesturing to the side.
"All things considered, it's only fair she doesn't want to bring me up, wouldn't you agree? "
i know. i am well versed in human disasters. /gestures at kylo ren
D1 also sorry Sae
Eikichi has a bunch of them in his hands as well (all fake, he would later find out due to his luck) but right now he stood next to Sae looking over to her 'bouty'. Perhaps memories of a bygone era in Japan's past would be clearly showcased in this youth's ancient school outfit and makeup. This guy was certainly something else...
"Don't let the others try to take them from you...granted I'm not sure how much they'll be worth if everyone has them..."
never apologize
That's not really the main point to focus on, however; her eyes go to the stones in his hands. Apparently he's just as into this collecting cloud-diamond business as all the others, but far too many people want to get in on whatever get-rich-quick schemes they can find, so it's not a huge surprise.
"I no expert on the prices of diamonds in Verens, but I can't imagine a short shower like this would drive down prices that much."
Ugh, what is she saying. Sae's shoulders slump a bit as she sighs; she's almost annoyed by the fact that she's reacting like this is an everyday occurrence, but this is what this place has driven her to.
no subject
"Bah! I don't know if its worth the effort. Diamonds may be a girl's boyfriend (he means best friend) but they aren't really my style, after all. Maybe if it rained silver bracelets...now we'd be talking!"
There's something about this woman, however...normally he's not one to strike a conversation of perfect strangers, but she stood out - clearly not from this world like him.
"So anyway, name's Eikichi Mishina, mam, at your service! I win the Dragon Bathouse and Spa...and a lot more things at this point!" Look what a polite boy (mostly cause you're older than him). Also hadn't he called himself Michel before? What a bizarre boy.

If you're trying to figure out if it's a real diamond or not, one of the ways you can test if it's real or not is to try breathing onto it. Diamonds are actually pretty good heat conductors, so the fog should disperse almost immediately. If it's fake... then the top would stay pretty foggy a little longer than a real one. Of course, there's other ways you can test if it's genuine or not.
With a round brilliant stone, you can turn it upside down on a printed piece of paper and if you can see the letters visibly, it's most likely a fake. You can also use magnification to check if it's a moissanite - which you might know as silicon carbide and its various crystalline polymorphs. Real diamonds have a frosted, grainy look in contrast to things like cubic zirconia, which are also singly refractive.
Of course, you probably want to see if it passes the heat test first before checking it through magnification.
[ But then he realizes that he's explaining something that seems a little complicated for someone who looks like he's six years old. ]
... At least, that's what I saw on television one time!
no subject
Is that so?
[Her expression gradually turns from surprise to curiosity to suspicion, however, and there's a faint line in her brow as she turns her attention back to the boy.]
That's quite the memory you have...
[There's definitely something fishy about this kid, but. It can't be any fishier than things she's already dealt with, right? Right. Sae brings her umbrella back over her head, where it should be.]
Well, it's clearly not safe to stay out in the open like this. Were you heading somewhere? I can accompany you if it's not too far.
[She's trying to do better as an adult taking responsibility for those younger than her, and she doesn't see a guardian anywhere nearby, so...]

[There is someone very skinny, very mopey looking at her elbow, looking at her with an odd gleam of steel in the back of his eyes as he uneasily flickers them between the door and her.]
Ma'am? Two things. Think of this as being like that stupidly catchy American rock song about that hotel-- the one that you can't leave. And right now it's probably best to consider the phrase 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do.'
[He shrugged, as if he wasn't convinced by his own argument.]
It's dumb, but at least it's safe in here.

Some of us don't have time to play around with robes and pretend.
[Granted, she has a lot more time here than she does in her actual home, but that doesn't make her any more interested in wasting it. Old habits are hard to break, and you can take the work away from the workaholic, but you can't take the workaholic out of... wait, that's not how that goes.
Sae returns her glare to the robed figure, who remains unmoved.]
It's nice to know all of you are content to spend your free time illegally detaining people to contribute to your worthless fantasies. [Surely it's illegal, right? She knows there are laws here, and this is among the basics of any legal system.]
E
[Right in the nick of time (or maybe not, depending on who you ask), Ryuji Sakamoto bursts through the door uttering curses beneath his breath. Unbeknownst to him, he's is currently stumbling upon a strange cult-like gathering. It's just in time to hear what Sae has to say from the other side of the room, but it's too dark to tell who it is just yet... but the voice does sound oddly familiar.
Ryuji pays her no mind for now... He's far too busy staring around at the hooded figures in horror.]
